  1. Yea, I heard something came open down in Edinburg and he pulled out form the D'field pool.
  2. Congrats to the Jacksonville Maidens for earning a trip to the regional tournament for the first time in school history (JHS will face Dallas Lincoln at 6 p.m. on Friday in Garland). Maidens beat a good Bryan Rudder team 45-39 last night to advance. If anyone had told me before the season started that Jacksonville would be playing in the regional tourney and Bullard would not be, I would have sworn they were high on something.
  3. I'm cool with the idea of kids having fun. There are tons of kids having fun playing middle school and sub-varsity sports in addition to varisty sports such as soccer, golf and swimming and diving that, for the most part, people don't take the time to come onto SDC to talk about. IMO, early-round girls basketball playoff games fall into the same category.
  4. You have to get into the third round of the girls playoffs before you get the quality match-ups that are good and that get fans excited enough about girls basketball to come on here and post. So many teams (thanks to the UIL) are in the playoffs that don't belong. For example, Dallas Lincoln beat Seagoville 81-5 in bi-district play on Tuesday. That game is even geting national coveage now! Poor Seagoville. Right here in East Texas, at the 4A level, I know of two bi-district games that the teams combined for 40+ turnovers----that is not good basketball, anyway you slice it.
  5. Mavchamp: Jacksonville girls have not clinched. They are two games ahead of Marshall and Hallsville, with three games left to play. Maidens need on more win to clinch title.
  6. Girls Final: Jacksonville 60 Kilgore 37
  7. Boys final - Jacksonville 39 Kilgore 22
  8. Mt. Enterprise at New Summerfield All games for tonight are postponed until Thursday. Varsity girls will tip at 5 p.m., followed by varsity boys.
  9. Kilgore vs. J'ville changes: Boys varsity only at J'ville at 5 p.m. Girls varsity only at Kilgore at 5 p.m.
  10. I think maybe the wrong quotes are being attributed to the wrong coach. First, the Jacksonville boy's coach has not made any statements stating that his team is the best team in the district. The Indians are fourth and even when they were at or near the top there has been no mention by anyone that the Indians are the best team in the district. The Jacksonville GIRLS coach went on record following Friday's win over Marshall as saying his team is the best team in the district (in his opinion). Regardless if you agree with him or not, the Maidens have the best district record at the moment (10-1), with only Hallsville still left among challengers. I believe a lot of the "attitudes" were born following the JT girls beating J'ville pretty good in Tyler a week or so ago. at which time, several came on SDC proclaiming the JT girls to be the best team in the district regardless of their record, when both J'ville and Marshall were ahead of JT in the standings. Obviously, after JT's upset at Nac last week, I think anyone would be hard pressed to say the JT girls are the best team in the district right now. The only numbers that really matter are the standings and J'ville is 10-1 and Marshall is 9-2 and JT is I think two games behind Marshall. At this point, no matter who you are rooting for its Jville and Marshall that deserve the credit. Now, JT could go into the state playoffs as the fourth place team and still win a state title, but until they actually live up to the potential that so many on here seem to think they have, they are what the are, the third or fourth best team in the district standings.
  11. Boys final in 14-4A....Marshall 57 Jacksonville 56...the teams were tied for third place coming into tonight.
  12. Final (girls) Jacksonville 45 Marshall 30 Both teams came into the game 9-1 in district with JT and Hallville sitting at 7-3. Maidens have Kilgore and Pine Tree on the road before closing the regualr season at home against Hallsville. And for all those "experts' that bascially came on here and said if you want to beat the Maidens just run a zone....well, Marshall ran a zone tonight! Jacksonville's big post (Amber Hawkins) had 14 points and 16 rebounds tonight.
  13. Marshall and J'ville are two games in front of JT girls; so JT is going to need some help from some of the other teams to win the district crown.
  14. Glad to see that this is a joke! I thought for a while that the UIL may have established a new rule in similar fashion to the NFL where at least one minority candidate must be interviewed before a head coaching position is filled!
