  1. LOL! Not based on what I saw Friday night. Overall I think we will be better than 2015. Defensively we should be much better that 2014 (even though a state champ, it was our 6th worse defense at giving up points per game since 1967). We had a very strong defense in 2013 - this year's version may approach them. Offensively we are NOT set at QB. We completed two passes against SOC, none by the QB. In 2014, our QB was a weapon on the ground as well as throwing. We have nothing close to that, at least not on Friday. If that doesn't change, we definitely wont be as good as 2014. I'm guessing JT is reloaded and will let us know how good we really are at this point.
  2. Don't know about that...haven't been on this board in awhile. LOL
  3. We have to throw the ball better than last night for us to have any change to beat JT. Based on what I saw last night, I think we'll have a stronger team last year...
  4. Denton Guyer 22, Ennis 19 A very winnable game, but sloppy play got in the way. Oh well!!! BEAT WAXAHACHIE
  5. I heard our two frosh squads and JV all beat Guyer tonight!!! GO LIONS!!!!
  6. Didn't say I lacked confidence...just pointing out where areas where we need to improve. Like most fans in Ennis on Friday, despite being down 21 in the first, I knew we would find a way to win. If you want to stay home, be my guest - I'll be in Denton!!!
  7. Only thing I know about Guyer is their QB - a play maker and very elusive!!! I think he will be even better than the two we've seen thus far. I hope we can at least stay on the field with them like last year.
  8. I'm rooting for any scenario that sends Ennis back to the metroplex!!!
  9. Looking forward to the scrimmage...even taking the day off from work!!! Based on what I'm hearing lately from those who have been watching the team since spring football, this will NOT be a big down year for Ennis as some around here were thinking earlier. The Longview scrimmage and opening games against Mansfield Timberview and Denton Guyer should tell us pretty quick about where we are. I didn't see last year's scrimmage. I think the Lobo's were missing key players due to injuries. Notwithstanding Ennis' dominating performance that day, I do remember someone from Longview on this board accurately predicted we would have a hard time stopping the run. Several times last year I was reminded of that prediction by our play on the field, especially against Sulphur Springs. So I'll be especially interested to what you guys have to say about us after this scrimmage!!! LOL
  10. LOL! I'm sure 16-5A will again be one the toughest districts in the state!
  11. Little surprise we're ranked ahead of John Tyler in this poll. Last year there was a thin line between finishing 1st and finishing 3rd in 16-5A, and we knew we had a pretty good team going in. Not so sure how good we are at this point. Looking forward to the Longview scrimmage.
  12. So am I! I think it will still be a wide open race for three playoff spots. Unlike last year, when I could not pick a district favorite at this point, I'm picking John Tyler as my preseason favorite.
  13. Don't know what to expect from my Lions this year...really looking forward to Longview scrimmage to get an idea how good we can be in 16-5A. When we got knocked out by Whitehouse in the first round in 2012, a former player who is very knowledgeable about the talent coming up Ennis accurately predicted we would title contenders in 2013 and 2014. He is telling me now we are two years away from making another run like the past 2 years. So I'm going way, way out there on a limb and say we WON'T repeat this year!!! :D
  14. I imagine Forney and North Forney would get picked off to go east before the Mesquite schools...
  15. It will depend how well we are playing at that time. Historically we have traveled well when we had a contending team. Our first game in 2002 was on a Friday night in Denton against Ryan HS, in a matchup of the two defending champions from 2001. Attendance was approximately 22K - half of those were Ennis fans. And getting to Denton on a Friday evening from Ennis is a lot more difficult than getting to Tyler. Not saying we're going to bring anywhere close to 11K to Tyler under any circumstance - but if we go into that game in the same position as we came into last year's game, you can count on a lot of Ennis fans being in the stands at Rose. We'll see...I'm being told that this will be a down year for us.
  16. I will be shocked if the UIL keeps Ennis in east Texas for 2016-17: after appealing our placement last time, we are now competing in 14-5A in every sport but football. Midlothian (in Ellis Co.) has opened a second high school (Heritage HS) that will compete in Class 4A in 2016. This is sure to Midlothian back down to 5A. If Waxahachie don't make the jump to 6A, that would give Ellis Co four class 5A schools - Ennis, Waxahachie, Red Oak, and Midlothian. Mansfield Lake Ridge, Summit, Legacy, and Waxahachie all reported 1950+ for last realignment - either one of those 14-5A schools could make the jump to 6A At this point I'm guessing there will be a DFW area district consisting of Ennis, Waxahachie, Red Oak, Midlothian, Lancaster, Arlington Sequin, Cleburne, and Corsicana.
  17. Interesting article...gave me another reason to be proud of my little home town!!! From the article: "...wealthier-than-average schools are much more likely to repeat as champions as well. Since 2000, nine different schools with above-average median household incomes have won multiple state championships. In that same time, only two schools with below-average median household incomes have won multiple titles — ENNIS and La Marque." Dollars and sense » Texas Football | Are richer schools at an advantage in Texas high school football? GO LIONS!
  18. Ennis will be down this year - losing a lot to graduation. At least that is what I'm being told by a guy who three years ago accurately predicted the run we had the past two years...

  23. According to a letter to the editor of the Waxahachie Daily Light, there are a few pushing for Sam Harrell to be the Indians next coach...according to them, Harrell has "thrown his name in the hat" to become Wxaxhachie's next coach: Letter: ‘Hire Coach Harrell’Posted: Saturday, January 3, 2015 9:50 am To the Editor, Why should Waxahachie be left in the dark any longer and not know what is going on in the football coaching search? Our selection committee needs to understand how committed Waxahachie is to being a city of champions! Coach Sam Harrell has thrown his name in the hat to be our next football coach. While at Ennis he had 12 seasons of 10-plus wins, a 31-game winning streak, and three state titles. In his last 10 seasons he outscored his competition by nearly 300 points per season. Waxahachie has a chance to secure on of the five best coaches in all the state of Texas. Ennis just won another State Championship, Coach Harrell is the ONLY coach that would strike fear in their program and would draw a line in the sand for all other Class 5A competition. I’m speaking for Coach Harrell and not against any of the other candidates. The facts are the facts and Coach Harrell’s record speaks for itself. He should be the next head coach of the Waxahachie Indians. If you agree that Coach Harrell should be the next head football coach of the Waxahachie Indians, please let your voice be heard. Please call the WISD Superintendent’s office at 972-923-4631.
