  1. 73tigers is right about how attendance zones work for charter schools. Triple A is allowed to enroll any student in the DISD attendance zone. This was a move requested by Triple A. The UIL or TEA didn't force. At the least, it's a premeditated move by Triple A because they were going to be moved to 3A during the next realignment. Starting in 2014, charter schools have to be aligned in the same conference as the smallest school in their attendance zone. Since the smallest DISD schools are 3A, Triple A was going to be moved to 3A.
  2. He'll do a lot better at Nacogodoches than he did at Katy. The basketball coach at Katy faces a lot of challenges that the great majority of coaches don't face at the 5A level.
  3. If CH was referring to Chapel Hill then it's Ryan Cook. If it's not referring to Chapel Hill, then I have no idea.
  4. They hired the coach from Gary. I believe his name is Ryan Cook.
  5. JBizzle is correct. Prop 1 was for "academic upgrades" while Prop 2 and Prop 3 dealt solely with the scorebaord and indoor facility. All 3 easily passed. The superintendent wasn't trying to fool anyone.
  6. The issue may have been about certification rather than classroom management. Classroom management issues can be dealt with. It has become more and more difficult for all districts across the state to keep non-certified teachers in the classroom.
  7. Silsbee up 86-80 with 2:00 left. Kendal Sanders has fouled out for Athens. To be fair, Silsbee has had some players foul out too.
  8. Tied at 74 with 2 minutes left in OT.
  9. Headed to OT tied at 70. Athens missed 2 FT's with 4 seconds left. Silsbee was holding for the final shot and turned it over. Silsbee fouled and sent Athens to the FT line.
  10. Silsbee is up 70-67 with :39 seconds left.
  11. I've been to the state tournament the last 8 years and don't remember Argyle being there at all . . . I wouldn't call a 35-34 win in double overtime a whooping either. You're now 1-1 against those sorry teams from District 16-3A that have won 4 of the last 8 state championships in 3A. I guess you can now add a 2011 state finalist banner to that 2005 2A state finalist banner.
  12. Don't count out Henderson. They've already played Pitt and SH and have a shot to be 3-2 going into the second round. Their game with Gladewater Friday will be a big one.
  13. They do not practice against the men's team. They practice against a team of men, but not the UConn men's team.
  14. Athletics is a privelege, not a right. Whether we agree with the rule or not, the athletes knew about the rule prior to drinking and chose to ignore it knowing what the consequences were. I would be willing to bet that this has happened to other athletes at NHS but because their parents weren't influential nothing was ever done. And should we be teaching young people that they always deserve a second chance for the mistakes they make. "I know I got drunk and crashed into your son's car and killed him. It was my first time though . . . I deserve a second chance."
  15. It was Gilmer as of this past weekend, but Texas High might be a late replacement.
  16. Thursday @ 3:00 PM - Carthage vs Marshall Thursday @ 4:30 PM - Kilgore vs White Oak Thursday @ 6:00 PM - Gilmer vs Hallsville Thursday @ 7:30 PM - Atlanta vs Spring Hill
  17. The officiating slant you put on everything has gotten really old. Did the officials play a role in the game? Yes, and that should never happen. On that note though, let's talk about your OL high-lowing the Carthage DT's all night. Let's talk about your WR's coming in and chop blocking LB's. How many of those penalties were called? Let's talk about the line of scrimmage being the Carthage 48 and your QB throwing a pass from the Carthage 44 and getting to try and pick up a first down again because they called the wrong penalty. To blame it all on the officiating crew doesn't explain why Pitt could only score on a short field all night. It doesn't explain why Pitt couldn't capitalize on Bulldog turnovers. There comes a point where you have to the other team some credit for making plays.
  18. From reading all the articles last year, Tom Osborne (HFC at the time) was very unhappy with the way the Big XII was put together back in 1996. He didn't like the revenue sharing plan and the number of Prop 48 athletes. He also felt like the Big 8 was catering too much to Texas and A&M, and never liked the idea of a championship game. When he became athletic director he had a lot more say in the direction of the conference and was unhappy with the commissioner always bowing to Texas. The revenue sharing was creating a disparity, and he liked the Big 10 and their revenue sharing. I never thought it was because Nebraska wasn't winning. Colorado has always recruited the west coast, and their games were never broadcast on the west coast. It made sense for them to join the Pac-10.
  19. Baylor is going to fight to the end to keep the Big XII together. Although not a powerhouse in football, they are competitive in other sports and want to keep the conference as is. Like others have said, you hear no talk of Baylor being invited to the Big Ten, the SEC, or the Pac-12.
  20. I agree that Texas was looking out for them and them alone. I think that this will lead to a huge realignment of the conferences over the next few years and change everything dramatically. This is not based on anyting I have seen or read, but here goes. The Big XII, Big East, and WAC will go away completely. The Big East is more concerned about their visibility in basketball anyway and the WAC has struggled to keep teams. The Big XII just has bad geography and folks bailing. Texas will become an independent school in football and have to work out something with another conference for the other sports. The ACC will raid West Virginia, Syracuse, Rutgers, Connecticut, Louisville, and South Flordia from the Big East to form a 16 team conference. The Big Ten will add Iowa State and Kansas (more for basketball) from the Big XII and Cincinnati and Pittsburgh from the Big East. They will now have a 16 team conference. Conference USA will shift Tulane to the East Division and add Baylor and Texas Tech to the West Division to make a 14 team conference. The Pac-12 will send USC and UCLA to the new Western Division and form an Eastern Division with Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Utah, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, UNLV (Vegas TV market), and Boise State. It will now be a 16 team conference. The SEC East raids the ACC for Florida State and Clemson and the SEC West adds Texas A&M and Mizzou. The MAC remains unchanged. The Mountain West picks up the left over WAC teams and is a 14 team conference with Hawaii, Idaho, San Jose State, San Diego State, Utah State, Nevada, and Wyoming in a Western Division and Kansas State, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Air Force, Louisiana Tech, TCU, and Colorado State in an Eastern Division. I know that TCU football is a big addition to any conference, but . . .
