  5. Hearing that Jacksonville-John Tyler's boys game is postponed until tomorrow at 6:30 in J'ville; varsity only. Rusk vs. Palestine will take place at 5 p.m. today -- varsity only. Wells vs. New Summerfield is still on in NS with the JV game starting at 4 and varsity playing after that.
  6. Nondistrict schedule for Rusk (as I've heard, anyway): Van (scrimmage), Spring Hill (scrimmage), Troup, Crockett, Henderson, Athens, Brownsboro.
  7. Freshmen: Rusk 34, Groesbeck 14 JV: Rusk 20, Groesbeck 14
  8. Freshman score: Rusk 38, White Oak 22
  9. Alto vs. Frankston (Alto's Homecoming) has been rescheduled for Saturday afternoon at 1 at Jacket Stadium.
  10. Nice shots, GBB and JJ! Makes me homesick -- I can even pick out the spot in the stands where my family's sitting in one of those pics.
  11. Got to go out and see Rusk and Alto today -- if memory serves, Rusk expects to have 100 or so when everyone gets in and Alto had 54 (9-12 for both). A lot of enthusiasm at both places.
  12. Actually, Rusk beat Terrell, 47-8. I saw that going around the forums last week, and it's backwards.
  13. Pre-district for Rusk (as I've heard it): Scrimmages: Diboll and Tatum Games: Center, Crockett, Eustace, Athens, Brownsboro and Carthage
  14. J'ville girls are now 5-5; they beat Whitehouse, 41-29.
  15. Congrats to Bullard on the win and congrats to Center for making it this far. Here's hoping for another 17-3A sweep next week!
  16. Congrats to both Bullard and Rusk...they were picked to finish fourth and fifth before the season and both came on strong to get to the playoffs in a district that was tougher top to bottom than a lot of people figured. Bullard's got a good defense that loves to swarm to the football, so they're a dangerous team that will give anyone fits. The no-huddle really works for them as well and they hold on to the football. They'll be a tough out. For Rusk, the key to their playoff game is not turning the ball over. It's hurt them in five games (Center, Crockett, Westwood, Fairfield, Bullard) and, if you do it in the playoffs, you won't be there long. They have the talent and the athletes, but it's going to be key for them to hold on to the football against Kirbyville. They're not a bad team and really do have true fans (don't let one bad apple spoil the bunch) that can respect the fact that Bullard came out and won, straight up, and that it was a good game between two scrappy football teams. The key for Bullard against Center (just my opinion) is to watch out for what seems like 15,000 running backs. They have a lot of speed and like to run a few trick plays to mix it up. They kind of fell off the pace a bit after a few injuries, but when they're at full strength, they're fast on both sides of the ball. It should be a close game. Good luck to the Bulldogs, Panthers and Eagles, and here's hoping 17-3A comes out of the first round with three wins.
  17. To answer the earlier question about the JV scores: Rusk freshmen won, 14-6. Rusk JV won, 16-14.
  18. Rusk vs. Palestine, Thursday at 5 at Eagle Stadium
  19. Alto's Ieshia Wells finished 3rd in the 1A girls' 100 meter dash and Lavadrick Singletary finished eighth in the long jump.
  20. Non-district game played tonight: Rusk defeats Hudson, 5-4. Eagles went into the 7th inning down 4-1 and came back, scoring three runs with two outs. Very exciting game.
