  1. Good Luck Athens - This should be a great game - Saw where someone said Tevin Watson had gotten even bigger - Wow Can anybody post on his stats for the year? Been watching him for the last 3 years and I know he can put up some numbers
  2. Best thing you could do - is contact your state representative and ask why Palestine gets 220 dollars per student State funding, while Westwood only gets 120 per student. This is the money the State gives to the school - not what is raised by taxes. I find it hard to understand how 2 schools seperated by 10 miles at most can have such a difference in funding by the state
  3. That really does not fly - Mays is on the offensive side of the ball - Has put up pretty good numbers Mays has a great relationship with the boys at the school. My son graduated in 07 and him and all of the boys that graduated with him say he deserves the job. They believed in him and wanted to suceed partly because of him. I am glad you are a great worker - does everyone in your group work as hard as you do - or do most of them grip about what a bad job your boss is doing? You say Westwood just Settles Settles Settles - Monday there was a townhall meeting to discuss it at the highschool. Myself and six other parents showed up. People will get on here and down the adminstration, coaching staff, and School - Yet Monday, when it would have really mattered 7 parents showed up. So did we settle or just not show up. This is our comunity - our school - our kids - We need to get involved. I grew up hating Crockett - They would alway find a way to win even when we had the better team. It was not until I was older I found out their secret weapon. It is the same secret weapon Tatum, Gilmer and Dangerfield use today. The parents demand it!!!!!! The expectation for the School, Kids, and comunity is to excell. Winning district is expected - The goal is State and everyone in the community knows it. We have to get to that level. My father went to Woodhouse, I graduated in 87, My two oldest also graduated from Westwood. We are invested in this school.
  4. AND THAT WOULD IMPROVE WESTWOOD HOW ?????????
  5. Hard to play against seasoned teams when half your team has never been on a baseball field. Palestine and Westwood used to dominate the district. Good news is there are kids coming up that have been playing a lot of travel ball - Both teams should benifit in the next 2 -3 years
  6. ^ I hope they are - Nothing like ruining the other teams homecoming - LOL I am a Westwood Homer no doubt about it - With the season being a bust this year - this is the most fun I have had this year. Westwood will be back - They have a great group of kids playing now and a great group of kids coming up. By the way - early voting on the Roll back election started Monday, so if you are from Westwood get out and support your kids and community
  7. I agree - Everytime this subject comes up there are people that feel if the Coaches are not paid well and Westwood needs new facilities - We have improved our facilities - New Stands, All Gyms are air-conditioned, new field house/weight room, new score board and track. This was all done without a bond election, which means taxes did not go up. Also we built a new science wing and art department again - without raising taxes. There is a tax rollback on the Nov 2 ticket - If it passes - the Coaches and teachers will also get a raise. So get out and vote Maybe we should pay our coaches more. Maybe as much as Fairfield: 2005 2-7-0 114-202 David Armstrong 2006 1-9-0 David Haynes 2007 2-8-0 David Haynes 2008 3-7-0 Darrell Piske 2009 1-9-0 Darrell Piske or Elkart: 2005 4-6-0 234-252 Doug Black 2006 4-6-0 Jason Ives 2007 0-10-0 Jason Ives 2008 3-7-0 Tim Lewis 2009 1-9-0 Tim Lewis Maybe Crocket: 2005 8-2-0 262-178 Stephen Burrow 2006 7-5-0 Stephen Burrow 2007 8-4-0 Paul Parsons 2008 6-5-0 Paul Parsons 2009 1-9-0 Paul Parsons Or Even Palestine: 2005 8-3-0 429-294 Glen Tunstall 2006 9-3-0 Glen Tunstall 2007 5-5-0 Glen Tunstall 2008 3-7-0 Booker Bowie 2009 6-5-0 Booker Bowie I am not trying to put down any area schools and I hope it is not taken that way. I am trying to make a point that spending more of your tax payers money doesn't always bring you championships or even district titles Westwood keeps its numbers in the black and is comparible to the local area teams Westwood: 2005 4-6-0 285-339 Shane Jones 2006 6-4-0 Shane Jones 2007 7-5 Shane Jones 2008 6-5-0 Kevin Anderson 2009 5-5-0 Kevin Anderson Again Good Luck Coach Mays - Hope you get the job
  8. When Westwood played Fairfield last year, I felt like they were on the verge of being really good. Looks like ya'll have turned the corner - Fairfield Big - Good Luck in the playoffs
  9. Need to add a few more things 1. This team is young - Almost no returning starters 2. With no prior history - Price was in trouble from get go 3. Tevin Watson moved - Can't say enough about him - Team Leader - Team Player - Essary had to be doing backflips when he enrolled. One other point - Does not matter how We got here - We are here - We can either fold and go home - or put'em on - stap'em up and get better - Good Luck the rest of the season Westwood
  10. I think Tevin Watson is doing a great job for ya'll. Wished he had not moved. Great coach Great program Great Fans should do well
  11. Westwood is unacceptable in its ratings because of drop out rate. The school is challanging it. Academics are pushed at Westwood - No doubt about it. For the last 4 years the Football team has been competitive - 2007 Bi district champions - Thanks Coach Anderson Our facilities could be better - Not the worst - but not the best -but we also have one of the lowest tax rates in the State. The School Board does something most of the schools in Texas do not - They run their budget in the black. That's something to be proud of in this economy. Westwood is not that bad. Everyone that I have talked to has said the samething - Price did not fit and the kids did not buy into his system. We are a small 3a - We like it that way - Actually I was hoping to be a large 2a after re-alignment but that didn't happen.
  12. Prayers from Westwood for him and his family
  13. October 13, 2010 New-look Panthers start anew BY JUSTIN RAINS Palestine Herald-Press The Palestine Herald-Press Wed Oct 13, 2010, 11:20 PM CDT The start of the 2010 football season wasn’t near anything that coaches, fans or players of the Westwood Panthers expected. On Tuesday, Westwood Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Ed Lyman reassigned athletic director Bryan Price within the school district, promoting coach Roger Mays to the head football coach position. Mays was one of three finalists for the job in June when Price was selected to take the helm of the Panthers. Now, mired in the coaching change and 0-6 start, Westwood welcomes in none other than Fairfield, an undefeated team coming in high off of a big victory over rival Mexia. “As coaches, we work every weekend and that hasn’t changed, developing a game plan,” Mays said. “They’re going to come in here ready to play their butts off, seeing that we’ll be caught in their way. We came up with a plan to get our kids prepared the best way that we knew how.” The Eagles topped the Blackcats, 50-33, to move to 7-0 and assert themselves as clear favorites to take the District 20-3A title. Fairfield is scoring more than 40 points per game, and has scored 35 or more points in five of its six wins. Conversely, the Westwood defense has struggled the most in 2010, surrendering more than 40 points per game so far this season. “From my viewpoint, being an offensive coordinator, I haven’t been in the past developing an offensive game plan. I knew the coaches know we have to shore up the defense.” Offense had been one that the Panthers were successful at, scoring more than 20 points a game during the non-district portion of their schedule. But, the Panthers were held scoreless by Madisonville, and made a change at quarterback during the game, replacing season-long starter Dominique Mickens with both Michael Dodd and Keke Hicks under center. Mays said he couldn’t comment on who the starter will be heading into Friday’s game. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Panther Stadium (1820 Chism Dr., Palestine, Texas 75801). Good Luck - Coach Mays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Price referenced an incident between a player and teammates Friday, but couldn’t go into further details about. This was a fight on the sidelines between players on Westwood side.
  15. Price was qb coach at Deerpark. Before that was A.D. for Comerce. I don't know if Price got a fair deal or not. Hard to implement a system in such a short period of time. With that said I also know that morale is at an all time low. I wish coach Mays the best for the rest of the season. He was my choice in the first place
  16. ^ By Halftime and I pull for Westwood.
  17. Westwood opens distict with win 7 - 6.
  18. This will be a wakeup call to Fairfield. I do believe Fairfield will come in 2nd in 20-3a, but they will be no match for Mexia. They are big, strong and have speed to burn.
  19. Wow 200 yds passing in 8th grade - impressive
  20. Westwood 7th takes Madisonville in 2. Now 5-1 in district - Great Job Ladies
  21. I hope Palestine Westwood stays with grass. Turf looks good but it also causes the spead of Staph!!!!!!!
