  1. From the stats...Looks like the teams were pretty evenly matched! Looks like it came down to the differnece in rushing and turnovers? Am I wrong here?
  2. If I am not mistaken, #44 is about 6' and 280ish. He is a sophomore, as is my son. I only have comparison when they stand together, and mine is 6' and 240ish. Honestly, I see Sid "out-bulking" my son by QUITE a bit. I had the stats, but I will be derned if I have lost them somewhere in this mess I call a computer! Regardless, he IS a hoss. Happily for us, he is just a sophomore!
  3. And, McLemee: I have been in Van for seven football seasons, now. I am going to have to agree with you regarding the "social" setting Van associates with the games. I am NOT one of the many in Van, I am (and have ALWAYS been!) one of the "few rowdy fans". To be fair, I have been too involved with QB Club, these past two years (only fair, I have not had a varsity player these past two years) and have not been able to be in the home stands. I do make the away games and am PROUD TO BE LOUD there. I have taken a great deal of flack over it. I have had much thrown at me from "why don't you just WATCH the game?" to "do you THINK you are a cheerleader?". On the flip side: There are those that are coming around to getting behind the boys with their voices and actions. We have been able to get some good chants and stomps going in the stands. I CAN make you THIS promise, Tim (and anyone else in the Vandal Nation reading this post), I will be there in full force and regalia NEXT season. I will bring the voice, the clappers, the horn, the bells, the canisters, and whatever else I can think to bring to all games. People can get annoyed, or people can get on board. I am going to cheer for our boys! Those who are annoyed? Sorry for your bad luck: I HAVE SEASON TICKETS ON THE FIFTY! :P
  4. Best wishes to Gilmer! Please, go ahead and win state: It is LESS frustrating when you drop your run in the playoffs to the eventual state champ(i.e. quarterfinals Van/Prosper, then Prosper takes it all!), if only a LITTLE less painful. And another thought: The "Army" sure did represent in the stands! There are MANY that could take a lesson or two (or ten!) from your crowd! Thank you, Buckeye Nation, for a great game, challenge, and learning adventure! I, for one, will remember THIS game for a long time to come!
  5. Thanks to BOTH schools for your courtesy! I was at the game tonight (in the concession trailer, but I WAS there!). We are proud that you chose Van as the place to make THIS memory!
  6. Gonna Be a BEAUT of a day for some East Texas High School Football in Tyler! Should be a game to tell for the generations to come: "Your Daddy was a BEAST on that field! He is the BEST football player EVER!" Looking forward to it! Travel Mercies to ALL students and their families to and from the game. Prayers for a good, clean game with ZERO injuries (and even fewer penalties!) the entire way!
  7. My players are 19 and 15. One JV. One college. They have chosen to play football, and I have whole-heartedly supported them: from pee-wee through (so far) college ball. With their choice, they have made sacrifice and reaped many rewards. They have been raised (almost, any way) to KNOW what choices and conseuences entail. That having been said... 1. I had better NOT find my minor's name (or innuendo, thereof) in a publication. There are not only consequences, but LAWS to prevent and preclude this. 2. If my sons chose to disregard the rules in a blatant fashion, such as the alleged actions reported, school punishment would be a play date at the park compaired to the atmosphere at home. 3. It is unfortunate that the alleged actions of a few have likely robbed the many of their teammates who have worked hard at a still "baby" school to play some tough football and grow from it. What of those seniors (who were sophomores the school's FIRST year) who are catching this mess? 4. Rules are rules, and we all must live by them. We are blessed to have the freedom of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS at such an extraordinary level in Texas. That freedom carries with it responsibility to answer for your actions. I am going back to my stool in the corner, now. I prolly have a HOMER post to make on the Van/Gilmer thread!
  8. Can't wait to meet all the folks from BOTH schools! Come down and see us at the Quarterback Club Concession stand, under the home bleachers! We will have Soulman's Bar B Q and DQ chicken sammiches for the hungry, and the BEST hot chocolate any where in town! Prayers to all for safe journey and healthy game! I will be there, and would LOVE to have SDC friends come by just to say "hey"!
  9. Hey ref: Why don't you grab a pair? (And WAY too long of a pause later) of good glasses? It was a JV game, so, I didn't get a flag... :saint:
  10. I have been working too many hours this week, and have not had the chance to get the "cheats" se, yet! I will get to it before Saturday, though! Really, BOTH teams got to the second round because they are on their game, NOT their GAMEboy...
  11. My kiddos think I am addicted to SDC, I told them to hush and move from in front of my keyboard! They moved! I can't be here every day any way: Football players like to eat EVERY day, and I have 2 to feed! BIG RED, 'NOUGH SAID...Vandals by 10. Great football, regardless!
  12. I agree, Frisco, that refs getting an earful is amusing. In all fairness to McLemee, I did not catch his comments as bashing. Might have been my rose-colored glasses. I might have taken exception if he had been speaking the same of Coach Moffatt, but I didn't see a bash, here. So, back to the actual thread: I kinda like the Vandals going into this match-up! The Van talent has gotten cohesive with the new coaching staff!
  13. Boys, boys, boys...Where did I miss that opinions are disallowed and disavowed on SDC. I guess it happened during my hiatus from SDC to envelop myself in some college ball. McLemee has a right to make and state his opinion. The same as anyone named "Buckeye Something" does. Looking for it to be done a little more maturity, honestly, but I've been disappointed before...
  14. Places to eat IN Van... 1. Carl's Jr. for burgers and such. 2. Farmhouse has awesome home cookin'. 3. DQ 4. Dinner Bell is a hometown cafe. 5. Milano's Pizza. 6. The Lobby is a twist on hometown heads a little upscale. 7. Soulman's BarBQ It is WORTH a few extra minutes to come through Edom and hit Edom Bakery. It is recognized across the state for its fine cuizine! Hope this helps!
