  2. Cole Ramsey, RHP, unanimous 1st team All-District has decided to join Garrett down at UMHB and play for the Crusaders as well. Congrats, Cole!
  3. I learned of two more WP kids participating in college athletics. I don't want to leave anyone out. Jessica Smith - Lon Morris - track Marquis Burch - Kansas Wesleyan - football
  4. I hope I'm not leaving anyone off. If someone notices I've missed some of our kids, please add to the thread. WP's AD has hired some really good coaches, not only X's & O's, but coaches that actually care about the kids. Things are looking good in WP. Also, most of these student-athletes will graduate with honors.
  5. Wills Point catcher/3rd baseman, Garrett Kinney committed to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders today. Good luck and best wishes to him.
  6. canton 5-0 wills point 4-1 mineola 3-2 eustace 2-3 van 1-4 kemp 0-5 canton, no surprise. bickerstaff, strickland, terry... no surprises. wp playing better than expected so far. van, not quite doing as well as expected. anybody else notice standout players, or surprises at the midway point?
  7. nail biter. came down to last at bat. WP 10 Pitt 8
  8. wp's catcher ended up with 3 bombs in the tourney. along with the 2-run homer in the championship game, he had a pair of 3-run home runs in pool play. ramsey, bardin, & deen all looked good on the mound. congrats to coach crossland & the tigers.
  9. unless i'm reading this page wrong, that tourney was a few weeks ago (10/22/2009 - 10/26/2009). there is one in waco this weekend, but it's not a perfect game event. it's the texas select league world series. 28 teams from around the state. the prospects will be at this event. it should be great weather, and great baseball. http://www.buzzlightning.com/Whos-Coming.html
  10. so, what the watkins family should have done is just to forced nic to play football because that's what athletic high school boys should do? they should have taught nic that if a suitable compromise can't be reached, he should #### it up, and give in... even if you feel your health is at risk? there's no doubt that going through weight training and conditioning similar to what football teams use will help you be bigger, stronger, and faster. the game of football doesn't make you a better athlete. the preparation makes you a better athlete. it's possible to get bigger, stronger, and faster through a sports specific program... other than football. my son played football, and was pretty good. he got bigger, stronger, and faster. then, when baseball season rolled around, he experienced shoulder problems. his rotator cup was inflamed. he was taken off heavy lifting, and went through baseball specific arm exercises. skipping weights on game days will keep you from being as tired on game days, but what about the days you do lift? a pitcher doesn't necessarily need to "bulk up." a baseball throwing/pitching motion is a very unnatural motion. pitchers require different types of weight training and conditioning. i think the watkins took the information from respected baseball people, and made a decision that was best for nic and his future. i know this had to be a hard decision with the deep ties the watkins' have in mineola. i understand what zoneblitz is saying, but i respectfully disagree. kids need to be taught persistancy, and not to take your toys and go home if you don't get your way. but, this is a different situation. this is a family that felt the athletic program didn't have their son's best interest in mind, and chose another avenue. best wishes to nic and his family.
  11. surely the farmers must be overated. there's no way wp has it together. everyone is focused on last season, but most folks don't realize how successful these kids have been prior to last season. they are a very talented group & have worked really hard during the off-season. i don't expect them to go undefeated, but they should make the playoffs. someone commented earlier that this was the same team from last season & they were terrible. they had a bad record, but they were not a terrible team. this season has been (& will be) a more accurate representation of wp's talent.
  12. too bad the opening came up so late in the summer. i hope there are good coaches left.
  13. update: it appears the pitcher has found a team for the summer. however, the 3b/c is still on the hunt. any tip/info would be appreciated.
  14. yes, sir. tyler is within that radius. a tyler team e-mailed me. i replied with contact information, but have not heard back from them. a dfw team would be more convenient since he is taking a summer english class at tvcc in terrell. but, tyler could happen.
  15. thanks, catcher. i appreciate this tip and the other tips i've received. we've been able to contact several teams. please keep the tips coming, and thanks again for everyones help.
