  1. Isn't the 4A Div I playoff game historically the 3rd game on Friday?
  2. We have to strike fast & often in first half. Trying to overcome mistakes after the half won't cut it for us this week. If we play tight & avoid injuries we can make this happen.
  3. According to 247Sports: CB/WR Parrish Cobb (Sr) 5-11/178, OU; WR Brandon Benson (Sr) 6-3/180, SMU; OT Waahid Muhammad (Sr) 6-6/285, Tulsa; TE/DE Kedrick James (Jr) 6-5/245; Baylor
  4. Waco La Vega Defense Dominates China Spring source: http://www.texasredzonereport.com/2015/12/waco-la-vega-defense-dominates-china-spring/ The old cliché of defense winning championship held true. Waco La Vega collected four interceptions, two fumbles, and six sacks in downing China Spring 20-7 for Region IV Class 4A Division I title at Baylor’s McLane Stadium on Thursday night. “Our defense stepped up,” La Vega head coach Willie Williams said. “We didn’t want to turn the ball over in the second half because our defense was playing so well. We backed off our spread, went to two-back, and just wanted to eat the clock up.” The Pirates (14-0) limited the Cougars (12-2) to 227 offensive yards with only 27 gained on the ground. Four of La Vega’s six takeaways occurred inside the China Spring red zone. The Pirates will play the winner of Friday’s meeting between Carthage and Silsbee in the state semifinals. Workmanlike and unflashy, La Vega’s offense stuck with ball control and frustrated China Spring’s defense by running the clock and collecting first down after first down. Ahead 14-0 at halftime, the Pirates opened the third quarter with an 11-play, 74-yard scoring drive which consumed over six minutes and contained just a single pass. Kemoche Hobbs, who paced La Vega’s running attack with 96 yards on 14 carries, sprinted the final 28 yards for the score. But the missed extra point fueled China Spring’s resurgence. The Cougars promptly marched 62 yards in eight plays aided by a personal foul penalty. Kameron Coe passed to Tyrik James from the 6, cutting La Vega’s lead to 20-7 with 4 ½ minutes left in the third quarter. Coe finished the game with 17 completions in 30 attempts for 200 yards. On the Pirates next possession, quarterback Jamal Williams committed his only major mistake, an interception which Griffin Kenneaster grabbed at the La Vega 44. But China Spring failed to capitalize on its good fortune. “It’s hard to sit there and watch them,” China Spring head coach Mark Bell said. “They just run the ball, run the ball, run the ball, and throw the ball. When you’re behind you’ve got to make something happen, and we didn’t make the plays tonight.” The Cougars drove to the Pirates 19. But La Vega sacked Coe twice, and his pass on fourth-and-24 fell incomplete. China Spring gained possession three more times, but each ended with an interception. Parrish Cobb picked off two of Coe’s throws, and Brandon Benson, who also intercepted in the first quarter, gathered in the last. “We knew they had a big playbook,” Cobb said. “We just read our keys and executed. We’ve just been trying to get this moment, and now we’re here.” Leading 7-0, La Vega took control of the contest in the second quarter when it appeared China Spring would tie the game. Keaton Dudik broke loose down the left sideline and saw a clear path to the end zone. But Benson flew across the field, stripped Dudik of the ball at the 5, and pounced on the loose pigskin at the 2. Over the next three plays, the teams exchanged fumbles, and the Pirates wound up in possession with 4:47 left before halftime after Dudik’s second drop. Two plays later, Hobbs slipped out the backfield and caught a short pass that turned into a 51-yard gain. From there, Williams went to Benson on the fade route and nailed the SMU commit for a 13-yard scoring pass with 1:12 remaining until the break. Williams, who connected on 11-of-12 passes in the first half for 133 yards, wound up 13-of-15 for 137 yards. Benson’s first-quarter interception set up the Pirates’ initial score. La Vega took advantage of the turnover and journeyed 64 yards in 16 plays, consuming over six minutes of clock. In the drive, Williams completed key passes for first downs on fourth-and-8 to Benson and third-and-10 to Cobb. Freshman John Richards capped the touchdown march by taking it across the goal line from 6. “This was two great teams facing each other,” Benson said. “I’m so excited right now.” Scoring summary China Spring – 0-0-7-0 – 7 Waco La Vega – 0-14-6-0 – 20
  5. LV twelve yr-history under Williams shows a 95-50-0 record, 16-9 in playoffs. Last time they were this deep was 2008. FWIW
  6. Haven't heard that, but could explain why some are saying it's been ruled out.
  7. Nothing confirmed yet. Was hoping for Corsicana...always super cold, but we have a winning record there.
  8. Definitely need both Ingram AND Hardy healthy against this defense. Also hoping our defense can shore themselves up after the last two games. Impressive efforts in last night's game against Silsbee, but they looked to be running on grace and fumes by the time the buzzer sounded.
  9. Never driven to Beaumont from Carthage...which is the better drive - 96 or 69?
  10. OMG, I'd completely forgotten about those obnoxious commercials! Are you kidding me? What a spanking those were!
  11. I've wanted to hear Bon Jovi's "This is Our House" blasted through our stadium speakers since I first heard it. Great energy, great lyrics - perfect theme song for OUR HOUSE
  12. I may ruffle some feathers here, but it would help if our school song didn't sound like a death march. I know it's been around forever, but that is just the most depressing tune I've ever had to sit through that didn't involve a eulogy. And what does it take to play some music during warm-ups, time-outs, etc.? Love the stadiums that blast some great "get on your feet & dance" music every chance they get - really keeps the energy level up. New stadium, new scoreboard, new facilities....time for some new traditions? Gotta start somewhere...
  13. We've had 2 weeks of 7-on-7 already. Play every Thursday in June. This week & June 21 at home, June 14 & 28 in Marshall.
  14. I know our boys are wearing white...so are we playing as visitors?
  15. Woo hoo! Found my gang, too! Kinda like a Where's Waldo game...nice break from all the bickering! :whome:
  16. [quote name='DawgDaze' date='Nov 28 2010, 06:21 PM' post='1480142' The other night though we had a whole bunch of our fans get upset at other fans who took off as soon as Carthage went up by 3 touchdowns. But I am not one to call out those fans because #1 they are fans who probably are JUST fans and don't have children playing football or in band or cheering, etc. They just came to see a good game and it was pretty much over. We stayed until the end but we got home at 1:30 a.m. And a LOT of people from Carthage work in the oilfield so they don't usually get weekends off. Which meant they came knowing they were going to be very tired at work the next day but came anyways. Can't blame them for leaving as soon as it was no longer in doubt. I'm just happy they came. You're spot on, Dawg...my son rode with me not only because he hates to miss a game, but also because he didn't want his mom driving all that way alone. My preference would've been to spend the night, but he had to be at work early Sat. morning and we didn't get home 'til 1:00 as it was. We take off work when we have to, pay to ride a fan bus if we can't make the drive, and do whatever else it takes to be there & be loud. I never left a game early when he was playing, and don't when his brother plays JV...but sometimes, when we know the Dawgs have pulled it off, it's in our own best interest to hit the road & be safe. We've already declined a much-loved annual weekend trip for next week's game...but so thankful not to have that long drive home where I'm the only one awake!
  17. Woo hoo!!  I'll take ROSE over ROYSE anyday!
  18. So how long does it take to flip a coin? C'mon!!!!!
  19. Excellent point, DFL! Predictions, schmictions...let's go Gilmer! Show 'em that East Texas swagger and get back here for a 16-3A battle of the champions!
  20. That's ok nellie...a little nerves is good. Gets us fired up! Besides, who wants to get this deep without some decent competition? Dawgs are tough, dawgs are ready.
  21. Yep, that's it. And don't forget to get some great home-style Mexican food from the Ochoa family in Malakoff. Love Tiger Stadium, but they got it right - windy and COLD!! Roll on, Dawgs, roll on!!
  22. Gotta go with the dawgs by 2 TDs...any word on a location?
  23. It was a great game and our boys made us hometown proud!! We had two Gilmer Buckeyes sitting to our left and an Atlanta Jackrabbit on our right...great to see the support from the neighbors of East Texas!!
