  1. Numbers- They need to get the number of kids playing back up to around 50 so they can have a Jv. You have 9th and 10th graders who have not yet matured who never see the field on friday night and are expected to contribute as juniors when they haven't actually done anything but practice for 2 years. Also a lot of those kids who would help when they got older end up not playing anymore because they never get to play. A Jv team makes a huge difference in a school having success year after year. That goes for junior high too, they need to have a separate 7th and 8th grade team.
  2. I just called the school....much better than just guessing. The secretary even gave the numbers per class.
  3. Overton's enrollment is probably closer to 150.
  4. What's not ready about it? I believe the gym has a little more work to be done on it but I was under the impression the football field was ready.
  5. Henderson would be a better location but I don't think it would be big enough. Kilgore would be good, especially since it has a cover from the sun.
  6. Dropping down definitely did not hurt Garrison any but i'm sure they would have been very competitive at the 2a level this year. I know last years Overton team beat 2 top ten 2a teams in Harelton and White Oak so there might not be as much of a difference between the classifications as you might think.
  7. Any idea on where or when Garrison/Overton will play?
  8. I'm pulling for Overton but I don't think they will have enough pitching to get passed Cayuga. They just aren't as good as they have been in the past few years in that respect and defensively. They still might be able to put up enough runs to pull it off though.
  9. When and where does Garrison play this week?
  10. So who do yall think will win the district. Hasn't the champion alternated between Overton and Carlisle the last 4 years? I guess that means this is Carlisles year to win it.
  11. I understand why he did not get anything since he did not throw a whole lot, but i believe if you take him away from that team they most likely end up about 6-4 or 5-5. I do not see them winning those 1 point games without him.
  12. Was there a problem with the capacity of the stadium or not? Did some folks overreact to something they really didn't have a clue about? Now that all of the complaining is over I will tap on the brakes to say this: If it had been icy and cold, the UIL would've had a hard time convincing me they care about the small schools as much as the big ones. Some sit in climate controlled comfort and the others brave the elements. The weather was a gift to the boys in the front office.
  13. I could see Carlisle going about 3, possibly 4 rounds deep at best but not state. I just do not see them having the speed to compete for 4 quarters with a team like Alto. Plus you have to think Garrison is the favorite to come out of the region again since they return a whole lot.
  14. I'm not sure who from Garrison would make the All State team, they did not have any real stand out players. They just had a good all around team and did not rely on 1 or 2 players. #70 would be the only one I could see that could have gotten it. I do think someone off of Goldthwaites defense should have gotten it, they were great. And the running back from Mason who rushed for well over 3000 yards should have been a first teamer.
  15. um Um. I don't see anyone from overton as "big time recruits" for this upcoming year. I do feel sorry for all the Overton seniors that are having to miss playing some of their final home games and practice on the softball field.
  16. However, the district was close enough to the lower rating so that just a few students caused them to drop. This is similar to saying a football team would've won if they hadn't turned the ball over 3 times..... The standards are what they are...you either meet them or you don't.
  17. Yes his team made the playoffs the past 3 years, and 5 out of the last 6 seasons.
  18. I hope that's inaccurate, 3% body fat is not healthy and would just hurt him.
  19. I don't think you can compare teams through common opponents. WR should beat Teneha, they are 2a and Teneha has less than 100 kids in high school. But I saw WR play a few times last year and unless they get a lot better I don't think they have much oh a chance to make a real deep run in the playoffs.
  20. Since people don't get to see all of the players in the state, the team is just opinion. All of the players on the team are deserving, as well as many others. You only get to name a few and there are many players with relatively equal stats. Some are invariably going to be left off. Just the nature of the beast.
