  1. Man, Lufkin had some great games and some heartbreaking losses back in the semi finals of 2002, 2004 and 2005 to Southlake. Not here to hate on or bully, but the pot can be stirred well here at times. How much of a drive is it over to ATT from Mansfield?
  2. Good point. That is the tough part about having multiple schools, the fan bases are so divided., much different in East Texas.
  3. Thanks for the info. Longview will lose 49 seniors, but i think their sub varsity teams were all undefeated this year. So they will just reload next year.
  4. It must be tough to be a one man army, do you have any other friends? Saturday will be a good one with probably 6-7 thousand Longview fans and 500 LR fans, that is the difference between great programs and Johnny come lately program on a 2 year run.
  5. Sticking with my East Texas roots and history here, not a big fan of the Metro schools either north or south. Lack of respect for the East Texas programs that have a 100 years of proven track records. Everyone has to start somewhere like LR, but 2 years of success does not a program make. Everyone LR plays from here on out is better than what you have played all year.
  6. I like the Region III South idea. Maybe they will put us down in the Bryan/Huntsville district , which is still Region II. No Texas High or Ennis. Lufkin will be 5A with 2097, we were 2088 in 2013. Lufkin has 40,000 population, we are not a Tyler or Longview with 100,000 plus. We are not small, we are the right size for the population we have here. We are surrounded by three 4A schools (Hudson, Diboll and Huntington), one 3A school (Central) and have a Private Pineywoods Academy that plays in 2A. Just to let you know. Don't care where they put Lufkin, we just want to play.
  7. Sure wish we played this game on Friday. Weather Underground has 100% chance of Rain and Thunderstorms on Saturday. You would think school officials would learn from last week. My pick is Lufkin at home
  8. Very unusual circumstances occurred in Ennis last Friday night and the coaches, principles and both superintendents plus the UIL made this decision and agreed to it. Too many IMHO out there, it wasn't in your hands, you weren't there, it was done in the best interest of all concerned, especially the kids. People can bash the Ennis coach all they want or Lufkin's, because they followed the right protocol and had everyone involved and made a decision. End of story. It does not matter at all what you and I think about it. As a fan I would have liked to see the game played if it were possible, it wasn't, I was up there, the weather and flooding were horrible. Win or lose the coin flip for Lufkin, it was a good decision.
  9. Beating a dead horse. BOTH coaches agreed to this, it was not a one sided deal where Lufkin said they didn't want to come back, why should they have to bear that expense, plus you see now how today turned out and JT-Corsi gets moved to Monday. Which neither the Ennis or Lufkin coach wanted, that was in total agreement. So it is what it is and just go on down the road to the next thing.
  10. Then what would be your solution if the inclement weather and lightening continued Saturday through Monday as predicted. You can't cancel because it means something in the district standings. There are no open dates left. Play a seven on seven indoors? Arena style indoors? Let us not forget, it is not the rain itself that is the problem here, it is the lightening and flooding complications. Safety FIRST for our high school kids participating. It is not really about the football game at all.
  11. Someone doesn't like Ennis, but I can say they probably go 2-0 to finish the season. Lufkin wins out to finish the season and so does JT. Take that scenario and see how things work out. A mess fighting for #4.
  12. Just glad this game or non game is behind us. Neither coach wanted it to be resolved with a coin flip, both wanted to play it out, if possible.. It is what it is though. My group never made it to Ennis, in fact we never made it to Corsicana, we drove a total of 408 miles last night trying various GPS alternate routes that were flooded and then moving about 12 miles in 3 1/2 hours on I45 before we could get off and turned around back to Lufkin about 11 PM, got back at 2:20 AM. Tough situation over on I45 for lots of folks stranded there. We were lucky and our group got back safely, the heck with the game at this point. Time to move on and finish this season strong and see what happens at playoff time. Hope everyone gets through this bad weather in good shape and stay safe. That is one thing I learned last night, getting back home safe was more important than how any football game turned out one way or another. My first experience with something like this and hopefully my last. Good luck to all the rest of the season. Ennis , do not know when our paths will cross again, you guys will most likely go back Metro way after this year whether Lufkin stays 5A or not. That is the best situation for you and I am sure you want that to happen as well. Good luck.
  13. Lufkin put in new turf in 2005, the average life span then was 8-10 years, that turf was replaced in 2014 with the same turf they installed in the Superdome in New Orleans last year. This turf has a 10-12 year lifespan.
  14. I plan to be there, got the Frog Togs out and rainproof boots ready, I am set to try and sit through it all.
  15. Lufkin has broadcast all of their games on radio for 80 years and have TV rebroadcast games for 20 years, this year in HD. :) Just need to see how this all pans out, weather may not be as bad as they predict, or may be worse, the weather people are never entirely correct on these things.
  16. This is a tough call and a long way to drive to not be sure how long you will be there or if you just turn around and come back home in that type weather with no game. The game has to be played at some point and there are no more open dates to use. Playing Thursday would still be rain involved, maybe avoid the lightening and Rain is still predicted for Monday, so no matter what you do here it will still be wet. Avoiding the lightening issue is the key and maybe flooding. :) The forecast is not a favorable one for any outside sports.
