Yeah PA I know its Cumbie I'm just trying to restrain myself on here. I'm not sure Kordell wouldn't be the best option after taking all the first team reps at QB in Spring. PA you might know me better under my LP forum name PurpleNation.
If Rodgers puts on a show at the spring game I believe that will certainly create some momentum for him to get the job. Maybe a group of us can get together and watch the spring game. 007 and me are long over due.
Hey Game or Purple :). You know the chances are remote that even if Cordell lit it up in Spring ball, Cumbie is a senior returning starter. Rodgers may be the future for Lufkin at QB, but in the 1st year of a new district and about 42 seniors coming back who have played together since freshman, it would be unfair to throw a rookie sophomore out there. I know Reggie played as a sophomore, but that was always in the plans. I saw Cordell play last year as a freshman, he has great potential as a Panther QB, but he still needs lots of polishing and maturity. I think you will see that difference when he plays against those senior varsity guys. I also know what you guys are saying about throwing him in there to get experience, but are you willing to take that chance with our 1st big senior class coming back in several years? Rogers still has lots to learn as a football player, he has potential to be a very good WR, QB or safety for Lufkin, but the key word here is potential. By the way they were talking about Cumbie just this way when HE was a freshman, remember, potential sometimes is not realized, They all said Ashford Ayers was the next coming of Reggie, he was not. Jeffery Claybon the next coming of Jeremy Claybon, he was not his Brothers keeper. It would be nice to have a Reggie Mac or Bush Smiley type QB every year. For me Cumbie will have a very good year and I am thankful we have someone like Cordell waiting in the wings to pick things up should he be needed.

We are going to get the other kid again who again will miss another off season due to another sport. I just hope Kordell goes wild during the spring game and the coaches can't hide it at all.
The other kid is Trey Cumbie, he will be the Pack Sr QB next season, nothing will change that, unless he gets hurt or decides to go straight baseball and that is NOT happening. Longview has a kid at QB that is a baseball guy too, however Cumbie is a football player 1st, but plays baseball 2nd. The coaches would like Cordell to bookend with Terry Mark and KeKe back in the slot. Why waste a 40 player senior class on a rookie QB coming in. Let the Rogers kid play WR, then bring him on the next year. Cumbie is not the best we have ever had so far, every now and then a flutter ball, but he is decent most of the time and plays smart. Is Green's son totally out of football?, because he was the JV QB last year before he hurt his shoulder.
Cumbie having the baseball conflict in the Spring is not what the coaches want, but it is what it is I guess. Cordell may get a chance and if Green is still playing, he might be there too. Personally I think Cumbie will have a great year if everyone stays healthy. Ironically, Lufkin's Spring football starts in about 8-9 weeks.
