Yep. It will be a long year for Lufkin, maybe no playoffs. A blessing if not. Unfortunately, the same OC will be here next year.

That's because Nacogdoches limited the ticket sales to Lufkin fans to only participant families. The Nac home crowd looked sparse too.

It's a terrible thing that something like that mess affects a HS football game in rural East Texas.

Of course I'm totally out of the loop on what these issues may be.

This from the NISD website: No student tickets will be sold by NHS; any student attending the game will gain entry to the stadium by using a season ticket or by using one of the four tickets purchased by families of performing students. Any students that are not performing on Friday will need to be accompanied by an adult to enter the stadium. Coaches and directors at NHS will distribute tickets to the parents of their team or performing groups. The tickets should not be shared and are to be used solely by the families. There will be no tickets sold at the gate before the game. Once inside Dragon Stadium, fans will not be allowed to congregate in any areas outside of the bleachers. Fans attending the game must remain in their seats unless they are visiting concession stands or the restrooms. The Lufkin-Nacogdoches football game is the longest-running high school rivalry in Texas, and Nacogdoches ISD is taking every precaution to protect student performers and fans at the varsity football game. The district is treating this game differently than other home games scheduled for the remainder of the season. Nacogdoches High School is excited about Friday’s game and wants everyone to have a safe and fun experience at Dragon Stadium.

Yes, The twins, QB Delrick and WR Elrick Brown. Delrick, who would go on to start at quarterback for the Houston Cougars ('76-'79), was one of the state's top 220 yard sprinter's, while Elrick would go on to set the state record in the 440 yard dash and also run track at the U of H.

Does Nacogdoches ISD Media Stream their football games? Since they are not selling tickets to the general public, the folks here want to know if the game can be watched on Live stream. Don't think Lufkin will be flat after last Friday against Legacy.

Lufkin has lost to Nacogdoches in 1971, 1977, 1982, 1992, 2013 and 2014 in the last 50 meetings. Lufkin and Nacogdoches have met 101 times since 1913. Lufkin holds a 72-26-3 advantage.

FYI - According to Dave Campbell's Texas Football, Lufkin is Ranked #37 in Class 5A DI and Tyler Legacy is Ranked #66 in Class 6A to begin the 2021 football season. Both are predicted to finish 3rd in their respective districts.

Went down to Huntsville. They are pre-season #5 in 5A DII. They have 8 starters back on their offense, but lost about half of the defense from 2020. Huntsville won the controlled scrimmage portion 2-1. Don't have the break down whether it was against 1s or 2s, it doesn't matter anyway. In the live 2 quarter portion both teams scored three times, the difference was Huntsville missed on two 2 pt attempts, the score ending 21-19 for Lufkin. Lufkin has brand new faces at almost all key offensive positions, the Panther defense returns more starters from 2020 team that started 5 sophomores on the D. Huntsville is very good on offense this year, their D is decent too but they are replacing folks there like we are on our offense.

Legacy is a 12 point favorite by Jerry's Pigskin Prep. That sounds like a sure deal to me. We'll see what Matt Stepp's odds are later in the week. I read the Tyler Telegraph article about the Legacy-Marshall scrimmage, Joe Willis made it sound like the Red Raiders were the physical team, and smacked Marshall around pretty good.

You can tell this is not a game of importance to many when the topic trickles down to Page 4, then I need to write this to get it pushed back to Page 1.

Lufkin Lady Pack Volleyball opened the new Multi Purpose facility with a BIG win over Willis High School. After a 1st set loss, the girls came back to take 3 sets in a row. Ewers said he made the move to advance HIS college career and to make money. He has moved on from Southlake, his teammates and high school days to Columbus, Ohio. More power to him, and I'm sure Southlake has a QB waiting in the wings or something will transpire to find a replacement. The NCAA has created an open ended can of worms with NIL. Money is now the root, my bet is 50% of those who leave HS early will find their football success more difficult than they imagine. Texas High School football will have to deal with it in some way. While other players will do this too, for the most part it will only be the 5 Star guys who can graduate early in order to move on. No panic on my part, just gives the next guy a chance to get playing time. That never changes.

Everything an athlete does is a calculated risk. Doesn't matter if the kid has 60 scholarship offers to 30 P5 schools. There are no guarantees, and only the most fortunate make the final cut, most for only a short period in the NFL. I can't tell you how many really good athletes I've seen, have their HS, College or NFL opportunities dissolved in an instant to either injury or decisions made in their life. If you are lucky enough to negotiate the maze and avoid all the pitfalls, then maybe you make it more than the 4 year NFL average, maybe??? This decision Blue has made only takes one year of HS football practices and games out of the equation. Is this a trend? Not sure, because only a chosen few can decide this path. What he does is his business, and I guess some people will be watching to see how it all works out for him. I won't, but I do wish him good luck, because he's probably going to need a little along the path he's trying to take.

Lufkin has been traveling, playing some Elite 7 on 7 tournaments since March under the name of Lufkin Reign, against teams from Texas and other States. They are playing in a 7 on 7 Tourney in Houston this weekend. Not sure if it's an SQT or another elite format. Talked to WR Journie Thomas today. They are also playing in a local 7 on 7 league on Wednesday nights.
