  1. Actually, Dubois was head coach at Hardin-Jefferson High in Sour Lake
  2. Football has been discussed at Hudson at times over the years. Back in the 70s when I was a student the coaches and administration were against it for various reasons. part of it was not wanting to hurt the baseball and basketball programs and another part was that we were, and basically still are, a bedroom community with no industrial tax base. I haven't really been associated with Hudson now in nearly 30 years except from a distance so I by no means know the mindset there now. Last I had heard talking to friends etc there has been no visible show of support from anyone there to start a program.
  3. the oldest bbq place in Lufkin is Lufkin BBQ...it is awesome...they deep fry their rolls....other than that we have a Bodacious, Bryans which used to be The Wagon Wheel and The PittStop...which is on 69 south towards Huntington at the loop
  4. I believe the DC at Kirbyville is W. T. Johnston who was DC at Newton under Curtis Barbay for years. I noticed Coach Malone was on the list at Wink ISD so he is looking around also.
  5. I was bored so I googled the name and as of Feb 10, 2010 Derek Alford is the new offensive coordinator at Waco Midway High School in Waco, Texas.
  6. LOl. actually I lived for a couple of years in Silsbee too(God love the grocery business) so Go Tigers!
  7. Just FYI I grew up in Hudson, was a student there when the great Ronnie Pat Durham was head coach then moved to Newton and got to be exposed to the magic that is Newton Football and Coach Curtis Barbay and then on to Buna where they have a rich history in both boys and girls state basketball championships. I truly have been blessed to be around these great programs and know, ultimately, that all athletes are enriched by having participated and , win or lose, the student athlete is what it is all about.
  8. LOL Thanks for the help and Yes, Hudson is on the map...we are a bedroom suburb of Lufkin with a population close to 5,000 people....if you look at the center of lufkin and go to 9 o'clock you will see Hudson..which , by the way, is only called Lufkin Hudson because we don't have a post office...we used to really stew back in the 70s when papers etc would call us that....lmao
  9. LOL The only reason this thread even exists is because the game was played 7 miles from the Hudson campus. If we had played in Huntsville or Rusk or somewhere neutral with even more neutral refs from say Waco or College Station or wherever I wonder what the excuse would have been then for Hudson winning? Both teams had good, not great, seasons and should be commended for that.
  10. LOL@ home cooking...I work with one of the refs from the local chapter...he said the refs for all playoff games come from outside both teams areas..wasn't sure where these were from but, if you REALLY watched the game there were bad calls made both ways but in no way did that impact the outcome of the game....Missed free throws, especially when Crockett shot a 1 and 1 , then a 2 shot technical and then got the ball out of bounds and failed to score at all plus a first half press that just took their legs completely away from them to the point several Crockett players were standing around on offense in the second half with their hands on their legs panting for breath did more to lose the game for them than the refs did. As far as the game last night I didn't get to go but I would imagine the differences in a 29-4 team thats been to regionals 5 of the last 6 years as Silsbee has and a 21-14 team like Crockett had a lot more to do with the 24 point outcome.
  11. Thats funny because we were commenting on the Hudson side about how much they were letting US get away with...lol...As far as the game itself.....I think Crockett's continual press in the first half just killed their legs for the 2nd half...it was definitely like playing two entirely different teams....both teams should be commended tho..they played their hearts out!
  12. The High school was originally built as a jr. high...i think there is a small gym there...but Lufkin had just built a new gym several years before switching campuses so they haven't done anything at the high school yet
  13. 7:30 Monday...Lufkin High School Gym which is located on Denman Avenue at the Jr. High across from the Methodist Church.
  14. JUst to sorta clarify...NewCaney ISD is opening the new Porter High as a second High School for the district. Porter is a small town near New Caney on US 59 and has been a part of the New Caney ISD for some time. The area is just due north of the Humble/Bush Intercontinental airport area and is a growing area.
  15. According to posts on Setxsports.com they are still playing their season. Coach Roy Harper has come out of retirement to coach this year and, according to those posting there, the numbers have been down due to kids transferring to Newton and Jasper the past few years. Burkeville won state in 2001 but has not really had much since.
  16. ummm...not sure what the big secret is...the magazine has been on shelves in Lufkin all week....sitting here on my desk now....don't want to "spoil" a secret or anything tho...LOL
  17. Jasper radio station KJAS is reporting on their website that Newton DC W.T. Johnston has indeed pulled his name from consideration for the Jasper head coaching position.
  18. No, Coach Walkoviak is just an assistant at Newton...Johnston has been DC awhile now at least going back to the early 2000's if not before....
  19. Coach Walker coached a couple of years at Zavalla after retiring from Lufkin ISD
  20. according to wikipedia he was born circa 1939 so i'm guessing 69ish....
  21. Congratulations to Coach Peterson and the Hornet team on the first ever Regional Tournament berth in mens basketball! Good luck Friday againt Hardin-Jefferson!
  22. Hudson 55 Fairfield 47 according to a post on Eastexsports.com
  23. I saw both games also...2 very competitive hard fought games. I thought Big Sandy got a little tentative and tried to sit on the 59-50 lead with about 4 minutes left. In the 2nd game Grapeland gave Tenaha everything they had but the speed definitely negated the height advantage Grapeland had. The press just totally killed Grapeland in the 4th
  24. I haven't seen Diboll play this year but I think more than likely, and this is not to disparage any team in the district, going 14-0 and pretty much blowing through the district hurt more than help them. This is the first time since tournament time that they have really faced competition on their level. It will be interesting to see how they respond to the challenge.
