  1. Showing my age again, but to me this is like David and Goliath. I think about WO with Mike Barber in the late 60's early 70's. Doesn't seem like they should lace it up against little old A Central Heights. Funny how things change. Good luck to both.
  2. Receiver drops pass, coach asks him,"Son, do you eat with those hands?" Always respectful the young man says, "Yes Sir!" Reply, "Well son, that explains those fork marks all over your face."
  3. Sitting in the coaches office watching film of our team after a less than perfect performance during the early 80's. Defensive coordinator commenting on a wiff by one of his linebackers, "Now doesn't that make you want to lay down nekkid on the 50 yard line and pee straight up in the air." That was the high point of that season.
  4. Chancellor had won for many years in Bellville with similar athletes. He would be a strong candidate if I were having to make that choice.
  5. I heard for head coach at Lufkin, Pat Culpepper may be in the running also. Add a few more zero's to that combined age.
  6. Admin talking to young assistant coach: One rule son, don't get your candy where you get your paycheck!
  7. He made many stops in a long career. They may be thinking about hiring Donald Godwin as well.
  8. From a great west texas coach to his offensive linemen: You block like a bunch of purse swingers! From an old Athen HC when asked for a jock: Son just go find you a peanut hull and a rubber band and everything will be ok.
  9. Those are classic. Even funnier if one of them gets it. I here Ronnie Bickham may be in the running also.
  10. I just got off the phone with the UIL and they said they are working on trying to hold regional track meets if they can work out the logistics. They told me to expect an announcement on their website possibly tonight as to dates and times.
  11. I couldn't agree more. Other salaries are posted at different times of year. All you have to do is request and the school has to comply. You can even request to see a copy of their contract, all compensation has to be on the contract. Most of the AD's that I know are not ashamed to tell you what they make if you have the guts to ask them to their face. (Even there perks!) AD's should be compensated at a higher rate than assistants and other teachers because of the amount of problems they deal with on a daily basis. If he handles those appropriately and keeps the wolves at bay, he is worth all you can get him or her. Good High School Principals and Athletic Directors working together can make working at a school smooth and efficient. If they are pulling in different directions there is nothing worse. When in doubt why not just ask. It is an open record, but most AD's don't care. The good ones aren't ashamed of what they make and don't try to hide it.
  12. I held these guys feet to the fire over the pay issue earlier, but I want to say one thing. These guys go out and do a good job for the schools. If you can't watch a game without criticizing the calls it may be time for you to do a self check. No one agrees with every call an official makes, but I have never blamed a loss on one. If you don't like the strike zone tell the kids to get up there and hit the stinking ball. Look for positives not negatives. You might find out you have a better outlook on sports overall.
  13. I coached with John at Alto many years ago and coached his son on our Football team before that. You won't find a better man or family. Please keep the family in your prayers, as I will. Also keep the young lady in your prayers as well.
  14. I think it is sometimes very easy for people to hide behind the namelessness of a forum to say things that they would never say to anyones face. I have met Dave on several occasions, while I have never worked with him I can tell everyone one thing: He is a professional. In talking to him last year, he knew the pressure he was under to win and felt they were working hard to accomplish their goals of making the playoffs. Don't talk about him being laid back, that may have been the appearance but not the reality. As one of those old hard noses that you so freely talk about, I would love to have someone like Dave coach my kid. Can anybody remember why Donnie went in administration or what happened to Tom. Both, while fierce competitors, I would consider quiet and laid back off the field. Remember, quiet doesn't mean lazy. Good luck Coach Henigan. Good luck whomever Corsicana hires as their knew coach. I wish them both the best.
