  1. At one time it was a very good 1A job but some things I have heard make it not so much anymore. I think they offered it to one of the coaches already there but he turned it down and Coach Mullinix (last AD) is also still there and neither are leaving. Not many coaches there to coach a lot of sports and the stipends are very low. No new coaches are gonna be brought in with the new AD either. Lots of red flags to ask about if you get an interview. On the positive side they are supposed to have a good group of athletes in the lower grades.
  2. Franklin-80 Teague -43 Hey "homegrown" what did I tell you about that weak district. Sometimes foks overestimate their teams talent level when they are to close to the subject. You called me a "hater" when I tried to give you an honest evaluation from the outside looking in. Am I still a "hater" or just someone that has been around a very long time and who has seen a lot of games and tries to be honest? Next time don't jump to conclusions so fast. Us old timers have a pretty good idea of talent. Good luck with your new coach search and get those young Lions in the weight room and get them ready for next year.
  3. Dang, that sounds painfull!!!
  4. And you sir need to go to Wal-Mart and buy a sense of humor!!! Lololol!!
  5. Weaker???? Lololol!! Don't think so!! HG will win this district easily with Wolfe City taking second and Bowie fighting it out for third with the rest.
  6. Absolutely no offense meant at all. Just looking at things the way any outsider would look at it. Mr. Heard, if you were honest and looked at that district from a non-biased view you would have to agree it is one of the weakest 2A districts in that area area. I truly hope that you guys make a run and have heard that you have some good players but they just havn't been tested. Now if that is "hater", I guess I am.
  7. If you look back at my posts I have been nothing but honest. In fact I think you even said my last post was great. Maybe you should take a chill pill and look at the situation honestly. I'm definitely not a "hater", what ever that is!! Reading your bizare posts that are all over the place I, and probably a lot of others that don't have any ties to Teague are gaining a better understanding of why some of the things have happend their. Best of luck to all of your programs.
  8. While I hope you guys are able to get everything turned around out there I don't think I would get to carried away with the district record. This is definitely not a very strong district, to say the least. Didn't you guys win the district last year and then get beat by 30 by a second place team? Again, not trying to rain on your parade but I would just ecourage you to keep the successful year in perspective.
  9. Bev would rather stir the pot instead of getting the truth.
  10. Great story!! This should have been on the front page of Smoaky!! To be one of 11 student athletes selected statewide is quite an honor. Congrats to this young man and his family!
  11. Maud beat Overton last year pretty handily and the only reason Cumby made the playoffs last year is because they were in the worst district in the state of Tx. Same for Detroit. Maud should win this district with Overton a solid second. Cumby and Detroit will fight it out for third.
  12. Thats because Crockett won so the "refs didn't cheat them" so there was no need to "act a fool"!!! lololol!!!
  13. BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! Its Uncle Rico!!!!! (from Napoleon Dynamite) Thanks for the laugh this morning, I needed it!!!!
  14. Refs fault that they lost and the policemans fault for unruly fans. Typical post from Max, real classy.
  15. They are usually on here "as thick as fleas" telling us how many D-1 or future NBA athletes they have!!! Did Crockett really lose their district opener to Trinity?????? Seriously??????
  16. I think you are exactly correct. If the kids are excited and will work hard for the new man they will be succesful. If re-alignment goes as expected and they go D-2 they will be in the hunt for a district title or at least a playoff birth no matter who is the coach and once the kids get a taste of success great things can happen. Best of luck to the new man. The most important thing is to let him get in there and put his program in place. Get those kids in the weight room and good things will happen.
  17. I know there was one. I know him personally. Why? If you have never coached at that level you don't understand how much time away from your family that it takes. During the season its 14-18 hours a day (7 days a week) and when the season is over you hit the road recruiting. Not to mention spring ball and it just never ends. The pay as an assistant coach is not that great either unless you are at a top tier D-1. Any other level you would make as much or more as a head high school coach at the high school level and you get to see your family a lot more.
  18. Paradox- Its the way the coaching world works. There are very few head coaching jobs compared to the number of coaches that want to be a head coach. So if you want to ever be a head coach/ad you must apply for any and all of those types of vacancies that come open regadless of where it is located. Just the nature of the beast. In the old days many times an assistant was elevated to the head coaching position when the head man retired, took another job or moved up to a principal position. That seldom happens anymore. Ronster- The point was that there were several applicants that were very experienced that, by applying, were saying they would work for what Overton was offering to pay. Nobody was saying that Overton needed to go after someone thay couldn't afford. Matthias & Ty- Glad to see you guys getting behind your new man. That is the most important thing to do right now. I really hope it works out for your community and your kids. That's what is most important.
  19. Wasn't the last guy someone that was a "comfortable fit" also? Whats that old saying about insanity? Just sayin!
  20. Thats a pretty ridiculous statement but not surprising. Having worked all my life and retired from the coaching proffession to be called a "freeloader" because I don't drive a 100 miles to buy a worthless newspaper??? Very intelligent!!
  21. Most on Smoaky don't live in Overton and definitely wouldn't drive to get the paper so your "evidence" is pretty useless.
  22. I don't have any idea. Thats all the info that I know about him. Guess our resident reporter thinks that somebody will actually buy a newspaper if he doesn't fill us in. That aint happening!!!
  23. Coach Barton, that was there as a baseball coach is who they named.
