  1. So that would make you the 3rd best. Then add Longview to that list (you can disagree, but 47-30 says otherwise...not to mention it's now been what 10 years straight?), that then makes you 4th. Next we'll add Jacksonville since both JV and Marshall finished with the same record, yet JV beat Marshall in Marshall. That then moves you to 5th.
  2. I don't think it's really going to matter. This kid is such an athlete and has so much talent, I think he'll excel no matter where they put him.
  3. HUGE commitment for Texas with Ricky Seals-Jones! Hook 'em Horns \../
  4. I can see why that would all make sense. I guess if nothing else, he would be great as a return specialist if he has the type of speed a couple of others have mentioned.
  5. I'm not sure where the assumptions with the stars came up, but my reasoning for saying that the Hicks committment may have been a waste of a scholarship had nothing to do with how many stars he has. The reason I made that comment is because....where is he going to play? The depth at the RB position is already so deep that some of the current RB's already get very few snaps. And now with JG coming in, it's just going to be worse.
  6. I think we can definitely agree on that! I'll also add to that last part...Texas plays the best football in the country :) !
  7. All that proves is that John Tyler was better than Palestine. Doesn't prove anything about a single player. Barry Sanders was one of the best RB's to ever play the game, but even he couldn't win for the Lions by himself. Adrian Peterson was one of the best HS RB's ever (as most on this thread have even agreed), but even he couldn't win it all by himself. I understand your opinion of Campbell since you got to watch him play. Many LV fans who got to watch both Fred Talley and Vondrell McGee play have the same opinion of Talley....even though the younger LV fans who only saw McGee will tell you otherwise. But to avg almost 12 yards per carry, I think you're going to have a hard time convincing anyone that Peterson could be stopped. "Greatest of all time doesn't get beat in the 1st round." Jim Brown (who many consider to be the greatest RB of all time) took 8 years to get past the 1st rd (6 of which he didn't even get in the playoffs). Barry Sanders (another of the all time greats) played 10 years...made it past the 1st rd once. Earl Campbell (who you've made it clear is the best all time) could never get past the Steelers. Does that mean Franco Harris was better than Campbell then? No. It means the Steelers were better than the Oilers. Again, the one and only thing were going to agree on with this subject is as you stated before, when it comes to the "best"...that will Always be an opinion.
  8. I don't really understand the pickup of Hicks though. Unless he's used in special teams and out of the slot on offense, this may have been a waste of a scholarship. Just my opinion.
  9. I thought it would be better to just start a page for the entire class as they commit, rather than making a new page every time a player commits. That said, Kyle Hicks became the 5th committment of the 2013 Texas class today!
  10. First and foremost, I think stats tell you a lot. I mean, for a player to run for 100 yards in 16 cons games, 3K yards in one season, and over 8K yards for a career....that's not because he was lucky. As for as the highlighted part of your comment...So if that's the case, then wouldn't you have to put A Peterson ahead of Campbell? I mean, he clearly couldn't be tackled either, 8.3 ypc as a JR and 11.7 ypc as a Sr. So not only could you argue he was harder to bring down than Campbell (kinda hard to argue that he wasn't considering his ypc), but he also had more yards and TD's to go with it. So if that's why everyone is putting Campbell #1, then it should actually be Peterson...right? Bottom line is, like you said, best will always be an "opinion". But that's what makes these discussions so fun right?:)
  11. And going back to the comment that I made as to "why he wouldn't be in this discussion" (which is what I said, not that you would have never heard of him), then let's say he decided never to play again after HS....exactly what Hall of Fame would he be in?
  12. All of this is why he's no doubt the best HS RB from ET overall. But all the arguments I've made against it is strictly HS only.
  13. That's exactly what I've been saying. I've already agreed several times that as for as overall career's, Campbell is #1 hands down. Strictly HS, that's another story. Exactly. That's what I've been saying.
  14. Hey Lobo Im curious to who you might be. Any Lobo/always a Lobo. A Lobo grad Ive been fortunate to broadcast Lobo games for 25 yrs. & hope to keep going. Thumbs Up!!

  15. OUTSTANDING!!!! He was #1 on my wish list. Welcome to the 40 Acres Swoopes! Hook 'em \../
  16. Rating only what they did in HS, you're right, it would be a joke. I mean, comparing a player who had 2,565 yards for his HS career to a player who surpassed that in ONE season, ranks 2nd ALL TIME in Texas HS football history for most rushing yards in a single season (3,701), 5th ALL TIME in Texas HS football history for most career rushing yards (8,441), tied for 1st ALL TIME for most 100 yard games in a single season (16) while also being the first player ever in the history of Texas to do so, 8th ALL TIME for career TD's (115). You're right, it would be a joke to compare Campbell to Thomas. Seriously people, let's be realistic! Had neither of these RB's even played football beyond HS, I would doubt Campbell would even be mentioned in this conversation. I've already said this several times (I seriously don't know why no one is understanding this), considering their entire career's (HS, College, and Pro), then yes it would be a joke to compare any RB from ET to Campbell. However, counting ONLY what they did in HS, you can argue all day about what Campbell COULD have done, but he didn't, and the others did. The stats speak for themselves.
  17. That's all opinion based on the fact there is no way to ever prove it though isn't it! It's called "Speculation". Like I said, based on HS and beyond, Campbell is no doubt the best RB from East Texas. But based soley on HS...not even close.
  18. You're right if it includes success in HS and beyond. But strictly HS, Campbell (while great), doesn't even compare with Peterson, Sims, or Thomas. Sims finished his HS career just short of 8K yards. He ran for over 3K yards as a Sr alone (more than Campbell's entire HS career!). Peterson ran for over 5K yards in HS. Campbell rushed for just over 2500 yards his entire HS career. Rodney Thomas also had a better HS career than Campbell, rushing for over 8K yards. He was also the first player in Texas HS football history to rush for over 100 yards in every game in a single season (16). But if it's HS and beyond, then definitely, Campbell #1 without a doubt.
  19. If it's based on success in HS and beyond, I agree with most everyone else....A Peterson and E Campbell. If it's based on HS alone, I'd say Billy Sims and Adrian Peterson (in that order), with Rodney Thomas right behind.
  20. Definitely! I think you could take the top 20 RB's of all time...regardless of placement....and anyone of them could have valuable arguments as to why they should be higher than they are on any list.
  21. Serious question, was Mathieu dealing? If not (which I've never heard if he was), then I can see how there would be a difference.
  22. The fact that recruits change committments like they do socks these days, there is definitely a lot of time for anything to happen. For now though (and as long as he sticks with it), it's a great committment for Texas. Now if Ricky Seals-Jones committs, our WR class will really start shaping up to be a great one!
  23. Texas picked up their 2nd committment of 2013 today as WR Jake Oliver committed.... Coming off the first Junior Day weekend that failed to produce a single commitment in the 2013 class to join Celina OL/DL Jake Raulerson, the Longhorns finally added the much-anticipated second commit on Wednesday morning when Dallas Jesuit WR Jake Oliver gave his pledge ($) to the Texas coaching staff, as reported by Hookem.com. In recent days, it sounded like Oliver could be close to a decision, as he indicated to the services that he was planning to sit down and speak with his father about the recruiting process, which has now come to a head with Oliver holding nearly 50 offers from programs around the country. Texas had surged into the lead amid rumors that the family didn't care for the handling of former coach Mike Sherman's firing, which may have been a significant factor in swinging the pendulum in favor of Texas only months after it seemed like the A&M legacy was a heavy Aggie lean. But Oliver maintained throughout the process that he was open to other schools and proved that to be the case with his commitment. Hook 'em Jake \../
