  1. As bansheefan03 pointed out, it was more than 3 or 4 turnovers. The Dawgs had 4 turnovers in the 4th quarter alone.
  2. Do you think he has anywhere near the offensive talent this year in Jacksonville that he had the past two years at Chapel Hill?
  3. A lot better than the 2010 state champions? The team that beat powerhouse Brownwood in the semis? The team that had 3 WR/DBs who are all now playing in college? The team that had a tremendous senior QB who had already started for 2 years (1 @ safety & 1 @ QB) on prior state championship teams? The team with a 230-pound LB who could run a hole thru the wind? That team?
  4. Agree; the Fightin' Indians might outscore the Dawgs in the 2nd half.
  5. I suppose that isn't your picture beside the definition of "loyal fan"
  6. No, but I do expect them to make the playoffs by being in the top 3 in the district. Thus, they will be that district's representative in the Big School division.
  7. La Marque will probably be small school, as West Columbia is in their district. West Columbia has won 26 games the past 2 years.
  8. Shouldn't the thread title be changed from "Carthage Scoreboard" to "Carthage Coach's Financial Package"?
  9. Panola Watchman had a photo last week of the holes for it being drilled and stated that it would be ready for use by the 1st game on the 31st.
  10. Hasn't he already? He has played in 1 football game in the past 3 years.
  11. Yes, he played in one game last season before being kicked off the team along with a teammate or 2 or 3 for fighting.
  12. Gilmer is ranked #12, Chapel Hill is ranked #11 & Kilgore is ranked #14.
  13. Carthage has finally gotten wise. I understand that the wise folks in Tatum figured out years before Carthage did that as a "rich" school district under Robin Hood, you can keep that tax money at home rather than sending it elsewhere through issuing bonds for capital improvements. And add me as another who agrees with Ctown81 about the Carthage fans (of which I am one).
  14. I'm as big a Carthage fan as you're gonna find, so I hope you're right. But District 7 (Stephenville) might need to be excuded from that last statement. (Hopefully, we'll get a chance to see one way or the other in Cowboy Stadium in December.)
  15. The Dawgs won 2 state titles the last two years they were in the district with most of those schools.
  16. It is according to the Longview News-Journal's website.
  17. One of the classiest high school baseball coaches in East Texas, Joey Hector, is leaving Spring Hill after 2 seasons to go to Anna. My good friend has a career record of 250-169-1, with a 52-16-1 record at Spring Hill. The Panthers will be hard pressed to find a comparable replacement. Good luck to both Coach Hector and the high school he leaves behind for greener pastures.
  18. I've gotta believe that there aren't many high school baseball teams that can make the playoffs using 4 different pitchers in their 2 district games each week.
  19. I believe that the year Carthage won its 1st state championship in baseball ('90 or '91), Robin Trimble, who later played at Texas A&M, pitched every playoff game until the state championship game against Robstown.
  20. I assume your team generally played only 2 games a week after district play started. How much mound time did the #3 & #4 pitchers get during district play (i.e. the 5 or 6 weeks immediately preceding the playoffs)? How does a coach keep more than two pitchers sharp when a team is limited to 2 weeks a game for more than a month?
  21. This sure puts a big hole in coachc45's argument that game 2 is the only "MUST" win game in a 3-game series.
  22. Did you ever lose the first game? If so, how did your team fare from there?
  23. To clarify, did 'Doches' ace not pitch in Game 1?
  24. Under what conditions, if ever, do you think a high school baseball coach should hold his ace pitcher out of the 1st game of a best-of-3 playoff series to match him up against a weaker pitcher? Does such a move not convey to both teams that the coach doesn't think his team can beat their opponent's ace? Does it not put too much pressure on a team to win 2 in a row after "conceding" the 1st game? This thread isn't directed at any specific coach, nor is it intended to "stir the pot". And it acknowledges that all high school baseball coaches are doing their best to win. It is merely an effort to get the opinions of high school baseball fans on whether this approach to a playoff series is thought to be wise. (I believe this is a pertinent topic at this time of year, but I'm certain those who don't won't be shy about letting me know.)
