  1. Center 28, Tatum 21 w/ 7:06 to go in 3rd
  2. 3rd quarter score: Marshall 16, Kilgore 7 Cayuga 42, Beckville 7 at the half
  3. I think it's already safe to say that the winner of this game will have to play Carthage.
  4. Halftime scores: Center 21, Tatum 21 Longview 24, Whitehouse 7 Marshall 10, Kilgore 7 John Tyler 28, Copperas Cove 14 Daingerfield 48, New Diana 7 Kirbyville 36, Corrigan-Camden 20 Arp 16, Franklin 0 Sulphur Springs 26, Lindale 9
  5. After 1-1/2 quarters, CHS QB Anthony Morgan is 9 of 9 for 189 yards.
  6. 35-0 with more than 8 minutes remaining in the 1st half
  7. Still more than 10 minutes remaining in the 1st half.
  8. Carthage just a couple of yards shy of 200 yards in offense after the 1st quarter.
  9. The tackle on the 4th down play was by MLB Kendall Thompson, which answers the question of whether he is getting to play tonight. There seemed to be a question before the game about an injury keeping him out tonight.
  10. It's not that hard if you have the superior team. Jasper's offense isn't diversified enough to beat a team that will score as much against them as Gilmer will - again.
  11. During the regular season, Coach Surratt always pulls his starters when the lead gets up to 5 TDs. So my prediction is Carthage by 28.
  12. Gilmer will be going big school and Carthage small school, unless Jasper doesn't make the playoffs by losing by big enough scores to both Rusk and Center. In other words, Carthage is going small school. And Jasper, the big school rep from that district, will play a rematch with Gilmer in the 1st round of the playoffs. In other words, Jasper will be making a quick exit from the playoffs this year.
  13. There were problems getting Dwight cleared for eligibility by the NCAA and by the time he was cleared, it was too late to enroll for the fall semester at TCU. Dwight is presently in Carthage, and I understand he plans to enroll at TCU in January.
  14. Although I think Carthage will extend their winning streak to 21 next Friday night in Jasper, there are some concerns in making this prediction after seeing last night's game against Rusk. It doesn't look to me like Carthage is currently at full strength. Their starting senior running back has missed the last two games with an injury suffered in the Jacksonville game. One of the two juniors who has been playing in his place went out of last night's game with a shoulder injury and didn't return. One of the returning starters from last year's team, an offensive tackle, wasn't suited out last night due to an injury. Another, their all-star center, limped out of last night's game at one point. (He did later return but didn't appear to be at full strength.) A returning all-district linebacker was injured in the 1st half last night and left the game. He spent the 2nd half watching in street clothes. From Jasper's perspective, this may be just the right time to be playing this game. Jasper has had some impressive wins already this season. They will be looking for revenge on their home field Friday night against the defending state champs. Playing before what will surely be a large and vocal home crowd, they will no doubt give it their best shot. Will it be enough? It ought to be one of the top regular season games in East Texas this season.
  15. Total yardage 360-111, Carthage The Carthage winning streak is now at 19
  16. Whitehouse is leading Jacksonville 24-9 with less than 2 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter.
  17. Both offenses were very balanced in the 1st half. Carthage had 122 yards rushing & 120 yards passing for a total of 242 yards. Center had 19 yards rushing & 20 yards passing for a total of 39 yards.
  18. Carthage's 7 possessions in the 1st half averaged starting at the Center 46. Nacogdoches leads Henderson at the half 21-20.
  19. Halftime score: Texas High 10, Suphur Springs 6 2nd quarter scores: Whitehouse 21, Jacksonville 7 (WOW) Henderson 17, Nacogdoches 7
  20. Last Carthage scoring drive was the longest thus far tonight - 50 yards. Roughrider QB is out with apparent injury.
  21. Bulldogs not having to go far to score. Scoring drives were for 14, 34 & 26 yards.
  22. Carthage dominating. Up by 2 TDs even after twice getting inside the Center 5 without scoring.
  23. Per KGAS color announcer Mark Harris, Gary Nutt, who normally starts at WR, & Hunter Holland, who has been Washington's backup
