  1. Lee was No. 2 in the poll. John Tyler was No. 1. http://etsn.fm/etsn-fm-preseason-class-6a5a-poll-no-2-tyler-lee-red-raiders/
  2. Hey 903sown, ETSN.fm is owned by parent company Townsquare Media, which has about 250 radio stations around the country. ETSN is the first of its kind in the company, launched by a few of us in East Texas who have covered high school sports around here for a long time. This is us: http://etsn.fm/etsn-staff/ Thanks for the kind words! Hope you guys had a great time at the combine.
  3. You can come by my office any time and I'll be glad to discuss the validity of the combine with you. In fact, you can come talk to the entire ETSN and APEC staff, if you want.
  4. It is clearly stated that the measurements were taken with shoes on. If that fact is ignored, said college recruiter just doesn't know how to read. Heights were taken with shoes on for one reason: These kids don't play football barefoot, Jack.
  5. APEC facilitated the combine in conjunction with ETSN.fm, the sole purpose being to expose the best of East Texas on the collegiate level. East Texas is often overlooked compared to the major metro areas, especially the players from smaller schools and those who aren't necessarily Division I players, but can compete at the next level. That 5-10, 250-pound DT may not be in the league, but he might be good enough to get noticed at an event like the ETSN.fm Combine and get a chance to play in college somewhere. This combine was not APEC's idea, so let's keep these words to ourselves until we know all the facts, please. I can assure you, no money was made out of the combine. In fact, quite a bit was sacrificed for the sake of putting it on. There were zero costs for athletes, their families or otherwise.
  6. Chris was not only a talented athlete, but a great young man. He was a pleasure to cover all four years of high school when I was at the newspaper. He was a joy to watch on the basketball court. My heart broke for him when he was injured in the second half of the state semifinals in 2007, but nothing like it's broken now. Rest in peace, Chris.
  7. Three posts, three different scores for Corrigan-Camden.
  8. Tons of scores for East Texas here: http://etsn.fm/week-2-east-texas-football-scoreboard/ Any help with the ones missing would be greatly appreciated!
  9. Chapel Hill: KISX 107.3 FM and hot1073jamz.com/listen-live Lufkin: KYKS 105.1 FM and kicks105.com/listen-live Nacogdoches: 107.7 FM and q1077.com/listen-live
  10. The brisket at Franklin BBQ in Austin. Nothing has ever come close.
  11. Hey Man. Do you know who "Straw" is? He claims to be a part of King's Academy. Just wondering... Kenny Cargill

  12. I was saying that I expected Rush to leave John Tyler but not until after this season. As in, I didn't expect him to find another job until this season was over. I know his job at Oak Ridge is for this season. Honestly, it's his loss, but it's also his decision and that has to be respected. I enjoyed the few times I talked to him, and definitely wish him well. Hopefully JT can get a coach who will stick around for a while.
  13. Someone is going to inherit quite the team at JT this year. I fully expected Rush to leave, but not until after this season. There could be a state championship in Tyler again this year.
  14. I spent about 15 minutes with Coach Little after Henderson beat Chapel Hill in 2010. Without a doubt, it was the hardest interview I ever had in my newspaper career. Talking to a man who was dying, but yet so happy, was gut-wrenching. Coach Little truly changed my life that day. Rest in peace, coach. You were one of the best.
  15. I'm a huge BBQ snob. I've never had any ribs -- Ribmasters, Country Tavern, anywhere -- that come close to those that come out of the pit at Stanley's. This is pork ribs, by the way. Beef ribs? Louie Mueller, hands down. And no one will ever beat 'em.
  16. Oh, if you haven't looked at Will Middlebrooks' stats from this year, they're amazing. Had a rough time after he was moved up to AAA, but his AA numbers are rocking.
  17. As far as players I've seen personally in high school: 1. Will Middlebrooks, Liberty-Eylau 2. Brody Greene, Bullard 3. Carson Middleton, Lindale 4. Clayton McMillan, Carthage 5. Luke Burnett, Carthage 6. Kyle Drabek, The Woodlands 7. Homer Bailey, LaGrange 8. Clayton Kershaw, Highland Park 9. Josh Wilson, Whitehouse 10. Jess Todd, Kilgore I also saw Bryce Harper while he was in high school in a select game in Oklahoma City. Went 4-for-4 with three home runs. Truly unbelievable.
