  1. He has a lower leg injury.........Just from watching him the few plays he tried to play in the scrimmage against Rivercrest, my guess would be that he has a sprained ankle... In answer to your 2nd question, he is VERY chiseled, but doesn't carry a lot of weight..........5'9'ish and 185ish
  2. Saw Swoopes in person when he was a soph. He is the REAL DEAL.
  3. The endzones drain great, especially one of them-----they slope away from the rest of the field
  4. If the rains hit pretty hard, any chance Hooks asks New Boston to use their turf field for this one(even if it is Saturday) ???? A shame to tear up a field this early in the season.
  5. If L-K is missing Stevens, Tucker and Green from defense like they were against Rivercrest in the scrimmage, you are probably correct..........Stevens was 2nd in Northeast Texas last year in tackles with 153(in 9 games as he didn't play against Atlanta).........Tucker started in 2010 and 2011...........Green started some last year.....................I remember Doddy from the last 2 years, he is a good one !!!
  6. Carthage by a lot at one point........Jacksonville catch back up some with their 1st teamers playing against Carthage 2nd team
  7. L-K's offense is lacking right now.............With a healthy team, L-K's defense is stout for 2A------but the defensive glue man is hurting with a ankle/leg injury of some sort and another good starting player has a hurt lower leg................My prediction is that Hooks has a hard time scoring in the first half against a fresh defense, but doesn't have as much problem in the 2nd half........L-K might break a long play or 2, but doubtful to "5 and dime" it down the field........The Tigers will have to bring their "A" game for this to be a contest
  8. So, you think that since you see one thing questionable or just didn't like, is worth saying on a public forum that a coach, who is in your area, doesn't have class ?
  9. Not saying it is bad, but a big change from the 1st scrimmage to the 2nd for P.G........L-K to T. High is a big jump
  10. Pleasant Grove put a pretty good whooping on L-K...............L-K could not move the ball at all on P.G................L-K's defense did very well for a small 2A vs. 3A during the controlled scrimmage............During the "semi" live quarter, PG's offense moved the ball fairly well/fairly easy-----being a homer, I will say that L-K's defense got tired
  11. Supporting cast around Stevens on defense looks pretty good.......several returning starters, and some younger players who have grown a lot since last year......defensive line has NO ALL AMERICANS, but does have the most depth there L-K has had in a long time Offensive line could be called a "work in progress".........A DB from last year who ran on the 400 relay which made it to the finals at regionals looked good Saturday in the scrimmage running from TB position Vise is enrolled in classes in Atlanta-----was told he is playing football for the Rabbits, but not sure Several are vying for the QB job at L-K.......one of the 2 tall WR from last year will probably get the job
  12. Linwood got 4th at state his junior yr...........This past spring he finished back in the pack in the finals at regionals.......Ask the Hughes Springs posters about Stevens speed-----they won the game last year, fair and square, but Stevens had a bunch of break away yards against them
  13. I didn't see Coleman in high school, but I think he is a lot bigger than Stevens........Stevens is only around 5'9"-5'10" and 185-195.....but he is probably the strongest guy in school, and probably in the high 4.4 to 4.5 range legit-----Shock was timed at 4.42 before his sr. year, and Stevens is faster, just not quicker
  14. I figured they will probably be a solid defense again but offensively other than shock I didn't see a lot last year. Is that RB #14 coming back? He was a hard runner. Yes, #14(Stevens) is a senior this year............he is not nearly as shifty as Shock, but he is a tad stronger(at least before Shock hit the weights and the cafeteria at Baylor this summer) and his top end speed is a tad faster
  15. 1. Paul Pewitt: 7-0.... Very talented team with a solid season last year, which I think will roll over to this season. 2. Hughes Springs: 6-1.... Another very good team returning some key players, coached well, and will see another playoff appearance this year. 3. Waskom: 5-2.... This team will surprise MANY people this year! Returning a lot of talent and coached well. Kids are really starting to buy into the program in waskom and with the amount of young talent, speed, and determination, this team will be the "little engine that could" team. 4. Elysian Fields: 4-3.... A decent amount of talent and some key players coming in to play big roles. Should be salty on defense. 5: New Diana: 3-4.... New coach, new start. This has always been a very competitive program and finds ways to win games. This could be another sleeper. 6: Dekalb: 2-5... Lost a lot of players last year and also under a new coach. I want to believe this team could surprise people but I'm not sold on them enough yet. Could be a rebuilding year for this program. 7: Ore City: 1-6.... A decent team with one very good player in Kenyon Whetstone. New offensive coordinator and new coach this year could bring change to this program. With whetstone not playing QB, it could be a long season for the rebels. 8: Linden Kildare: 0-7.... Shock Linwood will be difficult to replace. Not an entirely huge amount of talent this year, but will still be a good game for everybody they play. Another rebuilding program in my opinion. This is my prediction for the season with the records showing only district records because I don't know all of their pre-district games. I'd like to hear yalls opinions on this topic so post away! I've been missing some football discussions! Lol! Waskom going 5-2 and L-K going 0-7 is a reach...........L-K has found their 2nd running back behind Stevens, and the 3rd thru 5th running back are pretty darn good......No Shocks, but better than most years for L-K..............L-K is a few notches better at this point in the season than last year-----which I know may not be good enough to make the playoffs, but definitely not last in district material either...........L-K's defense will be tough, for 2A---barring key injuries
  16. L-K did lose a Baylor recruit...........and they may finish dead last........but FAR from rebuilding........13 guys return who started at least one game on defense.....and I think 7 on offense
  17. Linwood could very well be starting at WR and DE if he wants it. One of the better athletes at L-K..
  18. Two of the better defensive linemen for the Bulldogs could be considered among the best in East Texas on offense if they were penciled in to start on offense---McCain and Golden. McCain started most of the year on the offensive line as a freshman. So later in the year when the weather is cooler, if need be, those 2 could play a lot of offense.
  19. Got 2 coaches coming that will really help in football-----Russell and Currie........If all the kids are eligible and healthy, by district the defense could/should be the best since L-K dropped to 2A......Offensive line will be a big key----If they do good, then 8-2 is not out of the realm of possibility but if they don't stay in the weight room the rest of the summer and don't improve on the field, 3-7 or 4-6 is probable #14 will probably be just as important as Shock last year, in that he should be a really good running back and he clogs the middle on defense---around 15 tackles a game last year.......not saying he has the college potential of Shock, just that in 2A football, he will be important
  20. What was that EF and L-K score again, 49-48 ????......Nah, don't think so.......13-6, maybe???----and he may have played 8 plays on defense that night
  21. Is the reason the New Diana game is at Longview is to play on "turf" ?.....Any H.S. supporters unhappy that they are taking a home game away, or is all good ?
  22. Friday at 7:00 and Saturday at 5:00----Mt. Pleasant college
  23. College field in Mt. Pleasant would be close to the same distance from each school. Thinking UT-Tyler field might be an option. L-K had graduation Friday. What about Mineola ???
  24. About 45 miles from L-K High to Marshall High.......courthouse to courthouse about 40 miles
