  1. Many of you on this forum love to post about your love for the game of High School Football. Why not get involved? The Tyler Chapter of the Texas Association of Sports Officals is kicking off meetings for the 2016 season tonight.

Here is the information you will need:

    Location: TJC-West Campus 530 S SW Loop 323, Tyler, TX 75701

    Time: Monday July 18th 6:30pm

(Meetings will continue weekly through the end of August with additional meetings during September and October, new member training takes place at 5:30pm beginning July 25th)

If you have ever been interested in officiating you should come to the meeting tonight. Experience is not necessary. There is no better way to be involved in High School Football than to be on the field.

Officiating is great hobby for those that love sports and it comes with added benefits:

    • Get fit and maintain a healthy lifestyle
    • Opportunity to move up into higher levels of football officiating
    • Earn extra income
    • Training and development opportunities are provided
    • Make great likeminded friends
    • Opportunity to travel

  2. Beckville will play Maud tonight, Monroe, La at &7:30...WEST MONROE HIGH SCHOOL

Could not believe that when I saw it, but I found the exact same thing on the Beckville ISD site.

Baseball Playoffs - Regional Finals vs Maud

    June 2nd
@ West Monroe High School - West Monroe, LA

    Game 1 Thursday, June 2nd @ 7:30

Saturday location/time will be announced at a later time.
  3. Haven't heard anything about him, so I assume so. Checked Lindale's website and THSCA today and nothing was posted about that job being open. However, he does have a wife that is a principal at an elementary school in Lindale and a close friend of mine who has children in Bullard said they just hired a principal away from Lindale; just not sure who.

The wife of the basketball coach is the one that just got hired in Bullard, but as far as I know coach Albritton is still at Lindale.

  4. Probably the same ump that called the Whitehouse-SS Playoff Series in 2012 or 2013 and was very questionable in that series. I later learned that he was either a groomsman or best man in the coach for Whitehouse's wedding. My understanding was that he could not call anymore Whitehouse games in District or the Playoffs. He did however call behind the plate in a non-district matchup between Whitehouse and Mount Pleasant in 2014 (Mahomes vs Kopech) and cost MP in that game as well.

Not the same guy. Not even sure where these umpires were from. It was not people from the Tyler Chapter. Must have gone to the UIL or used a neutral umpire crew.

  5. All I have found is the Lee games on TylerLeeBaseball.com

They used to list the entire tournament, but I have had trouble finding it since they changed the website.

same here. I sent a note to their Facebook page requesting it. If they get back to me I will post it here.

New coach this season so I am sure some of the dugout club stuff is a little bit different.

  6. I think it will be a good thing for all the teams. With all of the use each season the field was always in rough shape by the end of the season. The people did a good job working on it, but it was just hard with weather, two high school teams, and one JUCO team using it.

I hope it brings more playoff action to Tyler and provides opportunities for other games as well. It will be interesting to see how the increased fee will play into the select tournaments. I know that schools will pay it in the playoffs, but the tournament promoters might not want to hurt their own bottom line.

I am excited about the next season in the life of Mike Carter Field.

  7. It will be warmer, but if you have seen the condition of the playing surface near the end of the high school and college season the past couple of seasons you might better understand why they felt this was needed. Last season much of the grass in foul territory around the infield and the area between the mound and the plate was rough looking. This season the combination of the rain and leaving the tarp on to allow the field to be playable meant burning the infield grass. It was one of the few dry fields in the area, but it was pretty sad looking.

The combination of REL, JT, and TJC using the facility means it gets a lot of traffic. I could even see Texas College using it some until they figure out where their home field will be.

Lets hope they give it a good look so the turf has the look of an old time baseball park and not just lots of green with brown patches around the bases. Turf has come a long way in recent years. This might also help them lure the D-III Juco World Series back.

We shall see, but I think it will be a change for the better. Redoing the dugouts last year was a great touch as well.

  8. Interesting item on the agenda for the TISD board workshop today.

See page 6. Installing an artificial surface at Mike Carter. From what I hear it would be turf on the entire field. Would be the only one in East Texas. Sunnyvalle and Lindale both have turf infields. Gary also opened up a new turf field this year.

Would attract lots of playoff games, especially in years like this year with all the rain.
