  1. Agreed. Any idea around how many we've connected on?
  2. Way to climb back in there and capitalize off the turnover! That was a HUGE possesion and score going into the half with Lufkin up and getting the ball back after halftime. HUGE!! NOTE: I can't tell by listening to the radio, but I would hope we are trying to get Hawkins more involved with the intermediate passing game. It gives the defense a huge advantage when they know they just have to cover him on the post route. You can always bracket him and give him safety help to try and take that away. His speed hurts the defense more when you make them try to cover him all over the field. Line him up in the slot and force the DB to keep up with his speed in man coverage on crossing patterns, slants, and not just the long ball. Look foward to establishing the running game more in the second half too. GO LOBOS!!!
  3. Good stop Lobos! This LP broadcast crew is a very entertaining bunch! FWIW they said that hit Maxey just put on Walker is the hardest hit he's taken all season!
  4. Cornerback play has been suspect since Coach Curtis Jones (CJ) left the post when King came to town. CJ coached them to play tight man coverage and press more at the line of scrimmage. He was also the track coach and took several Lobo teams and individuals to state meets. The kids absolutely loved playing/running for him, which allowed him to have great rapport with "his guys". He would take a few of his speedsters who showed athleticism on the track, and teach them to cover and defend passes. Made legends out of many db's in LHS history. This 15 yrd cushion we're having our corners give the WR is for the birds! Lawson is one of the fastest kids on the field, there is no way he should need that much room to keep up with any receiver we face. TECHNIQUE being coached and scheme we're running has not impressed me at all.
  5. Thoughts on tonights game later but for now the obligatory "Crow" post... Way to go Allen... You guys are good. Really good. That big QB is headed to the SEC for a reason, and your offensive line looks like the Nebraska Huskers! We Lobos were too inexperienced, too small, and too soft to compete with you guys. Congrats on a great game and continued success in the D-1 playoffs.(Thank goodness). Everyone have a safe trip back to the metroplex.
  6. Shocked we're looking so bad right now. QB play has killed us so far, missed some throws you have got to complete to beat a team like this. Running game started to establish, then we abandon it near the end zone. Gotta find a way to pressure this QB because he is absolutely CHILLING back there in the pocket! DB's playing coverage so soft its a joke. QB lobs a ball up on 3rd and 20plus and corner has great position on the wr but never turnS his head around! We're in a Cover 2 man defense which is supposed to be effective against the short routes, but wr's are STILL wide open underneath. After all this, I'm still crazy enough to think we will come out and make this thing a lot more interesting.
  7. That was my prediction as well. :coolio: I've got our young Lobos getting off to a shaky start and not settling in until close to end of 2nd qtr. Allen goes in at halftime up 17-10. We get a little more pressure on their QB in the 2nd half and come up with a few big defensive stops holding them to 10 points the rest of the way. The Allen defense is introduced to #2 Tory (TJ) White, Jr in the 3rd qtr and he sparks the rally with two momentum swinging touchdown runs. Eagles go all out to figure out a way to keep him contained on the edges and open themselves up for the Eric Hawkins DOUBLE REVERSE (we were setting them up for last week on tape). DT Jackson breaks their backs for the deciding touchdown on the trick play to upend the #1 team in the state! You can tell I'm excited already and ready for the dramatics huh!? :D
  8. Best game in Texas this week...and it's not even close! Better get there EARLY or you'll be standing on the hill. Should be plenty "standing room only" still avail at kickoff.
  9. Courtesy of Starlocalnews.com on 9/7/11 "I'm excited to see how we respond to their running formations and a different type of offense," Westerberg said. "We're hoping to stop them so we can force them to throw the ball against us." http://m.scntx.com/articles/2011/09/08/sports_update/8145.txt
  10. Just saw the quote where the Allen coach says he intends to stop the run and force us to throw the ball against them. Based on his past experiences against us, and the lack of consistent production we've had throwing the football he'd have something. This year I would DARE HIM to load up the box and let Hawkins and Jackson have one on one matchups on the outside. Our QB ain't just throwing up a couple of deep #### hoping something sticks. Pick your poison.
  11. Is the "Dawg Pound" still active at the games??? Those guys with the bullhorns historically have done a better job at leading yells and chants in the stands than our cheerleaders. SORRY FOLKS, BUT THIRD DOWN WHEN OUR DEFENSE IS ON THE FIELD IS A STANDING, YELLING, CLAPPING, NOISY CHAOTIC DOWN!!! PERIOD. DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T SIT BEHIND ME. From 2004-2008 we seemed to always have a loud, rowdy and supportive crowd. I feel like alot of that has to due with the restructuring of the seating at Lobo Stadium. There are alot of proud Lobo supporters that prefer to sit on the GA side, because the season ticket holders have developed a reputation of being the "book club type". Not saying all, so please don't get offended if you are a loud, passionate season ticket holder. But I observe alot of the types who come out of Fridays and it's more of a social event than a sporting event. Reading books, chatting on iphones, knitting, sitting on your hands all game long, shaking hands with the various civic leaders and corporate sponsors, and pretty much just coming out because your social status dictates that you are supposed to. Half of them couldn't tell you a thing about the Longview Lobos without a program in their hands. Again, these are not the majority, but enough to effect the perception of Lobo stadium, and the overall atmosphere of the game. I will be in full force Friday, so if anyone wants to come enjoy a nice, quiet, emotionless football game....don't sit near the 50 on the GA side midway up. The other issue has been the elephant in the room for the past 20 years, but due to the long UIL streak of accomplishment nobody seems to care. THE BIG GREEN MARCHING MACHINE NEEDS TO DO A BETTER JOB OF SUPPORTING THE LOBOS FOOTBALL TEAM DURING THE GAME!!! It's up to someone (Athletic Director) to make sure the band director knows how big a role they can play for our team. Our offense is consistantly drowned out by the other teams band, but we don't make it difficult for the opponent to hear the snap count etc. Band director has to know the flow of the game, and have those horns blaring when we need them. I won't even touch the subject about their notorious "fashionably late" arrivals for playoff games.
  12. For any of you interested... as of 8:45 this morning there were still reserved chairbacks available for tomorrow's game. I'm going to post up in the General Admission section where games like this one are always a little more fun for me. READY TO GET ROWDY!!! Side note: For all the fans we bring out to the games, you would think we would have the decibel meter going thru the roof! I was very disappointed with the overall loudness of the crowd at the Rose last Saturday. We've got to do a better job at knowing how to make a tremendous home field advantage that much more effective. BE LOUD AND PROUD ALL NIGHT LOBOS!!
  13. Allen offensive line is rumored to be very big, physical, and experienced...going to be tough to get the pressure on the QB we are accustomed to without blitzing a whole lot. On the flip-side, our d-line is more athletic and always faster than most teams we face year in and year out. I think we will be better off trying to get penetration with our front 4, and count on our LB's and DB's to use their speed to better contain the 1 on 1's they see. JT's crossing routes and slot receiver exposed a big hole in our coverage, but I think we should see improvement in that area from last week. Facing a veteran team as talented as Allen---we'd better! Still going with my pick of 31-27 Lobos!
  14. If I'm Allen looking at Longview tape, I like my chances a lot better throwing the ball over running at us. Not having Williams avail (if true) might be a blessing in disguise. JT receivers repeatedly had success in the middle of the field, and that Allen QB ain't no slouch! Defense better Lobo up this week or it will be a LOOONG night.
  15. I got the feeling some of those guys were trying to throw us off the trail with the pityful defense ploy. I have full confidence that King and his coaching staff have done their due dilligence and will be fully prepared. A victory would not be as sweet if they were not the caliber team we all expect them to be anyway.
  16. Perhaps someone who has seen Allen this year can clear this up for me, as I've read conflicting reports on the 5A board. Is the Eagle defense slow and vulnerablle, or "faster than ever" as one Allen fan put it. Seems to be mixed feelings on this and I was curious. Also saw mention of Allen's ability to contain Cedar Hill as evidence of this. Do I need to break down the "regional speed comparison theorum" again??? Longview Speed. DFW Speed = Two COMPLETELY different things.
  17. I agree %100. That's also the reason I have Longview coming out sluggish and being held to 10 pts in the first half. 2nd half King gives them a bigger dose of TJ and momentum shifts. Don't mean in any way to turn this into an Anti-Faggans deal, but the explosive play threat TJ provides is the kind that turns ballgames around. A la McCray's 2nd half performance against Allen in 09. If he busts one of those 50-60 yard runs this week, it could be the spark that ignites the flame.
  18. Amen to that. Now let me have a score and prediction from you. I was initially a bit conservative, knowing Allen is a huge test this early in the season. However a couple Eagles fans on the 5A board are skeptical of their defense, particularly their speed on that side of the ball. NOT a good prospect AT ALL coming into Lobo stadium!
  19. "A Hit dog Holler!" Lol. But seriously, I love my Longview Lobos and support them fully. I enjoy talking sports and I don't mean to cause any ruckus among fellow bretheren. So back to the topic...Lobos vs Eagles. Who ya got and why?? I'm changing my original score prdiction. 17-10 Allen @ the half. 34-27 Longview FINAL. Coach King best in the biz making 2nd half adjustments. Defense clamps down and Tory White adds to his young legacy.
  20. Easy there fella...the old adage about "if it don't apply let it fly" might be helpful here. Another case of the Lobo fandom "disease". I didn't ask, nor care what your thoughts were on the matter, and have not ridiculed you one way or thr other for what your oppinion is. I say some within the "faithful" are way too sensitive to any perceived slight of Coach King. (The fact that I made this statement in a post that was NOT critical of King was overlooked I guess.) I respect your thoughts 2004, and I haven't put your name next to any statement made. But I will take this opportunity to again extend the invitation to all on this board. I have no problem whatsoever disclosing my location at Kickoff, anyone who wants to meet up and have any type of discussion during the game feel free. Go Lobos.
  21. ^^^ What we are both saying is right on...and part of the problem within the so-called Lobo community, is that there is such an overwhelming sensitivity to ANY type of percieved criticism of Coach King. Even when no malice or disrespect is shown. I just don't get it. That's one of the reasons, I have not been as active on this board as in years past. You can say "I wish we would have thrown to Hawkins more last week" and someone will go running off Coach King's W-L record and questioning how many hours of film you've studied.
  22. The intent of me referencing my post from last year was not to "lay claim" to the Tory White discovery, but I will defer to you if you would like. The point was that last season we seemed at times to be missing the big play out of the backfield with J'Haston. There were grumblings among many Lobo supporters that perhaps one of our talented sophs could see some varsity action, and TJ stood out to me as one who could handle the load. Looked good with limited carries after the injury to Faggans, and then got no totes in the loss to Guyer. My stance was that he had the talent and explosiveness to overtake Faggans during spring drills heading into the season. Well, what do you know...1 game in and we are discussing that possibility.
  23. Can't speak for everyone else, but I wasn't as impressed with Cedar Hill as I expected to be against Guyer. That Gonzalez kid was incredible, but was the only one who really jumped out at me. They don't have the overwhelming athletes Cedar Hill has been used to the last 5 or 6 yrs. Thus, Allen's victory over them is not as noteworthy as some may feel. IMO Longview will be a much tougher foe for the Allen Eagles.
  24. You are absolutely correct RJC...the explosive play is the one thing that jumps out at you when you watch White run. If you remember, when he got spot duty last year, he looked like he was close to breaking one at any moment. Still dissapointed that he didn't get a single carry in the semifinals vs Guyer. Could have been a different ballgame. One thing is for certain, Faggans had better not let this concussion issue linger much longer, because that was a John Tyler defense LOADED with speed, and #2 looked pretty impressive out there on the road in his FIRST EVER START! *I might add that over the years King has always been loyal to the upperclassmen, sometimes to a fault, and I fully expect him to give Faggans every opportunity possible to be the man. But 82 yard TD runs are something that can't be coached, and will be a big added benefit to getting Hawkins and Jackson some open looks on the outside.
  25. I don't think Allen's defense is prepared for the speed they will see Friday. We are MUCH faster and more explosive than the 09-10 teams. Lobos take this one 38-27 and make a huge statement to the rest of Texas! BTW...here's the post I made after the Mesquite game last season when a relatively unknown (to most) soph. Tory (TJ) White looked very good in relief of an injured J'Haston Faggans.....The dogfight has officially begun. <_< Posted 05 December 2010 - 11:51 PM "Had to work so missed the game, but I was hoping young TJ (Tory White Jr.) was the secret weapon you guys were talking about. He would have been in there last week when J'Haston went down, but was inactive due to missing a practice that week. His blazing speed and explosiveness gives us a big play threat out of the running game that has been sorely missed at times this season. If you've followed the JV, you already know what a threat he is in the return game, and I hope we see more flashes from him over the next TWO weeks. Side note: Faggans is an outstanding back and it is very sad to have seen his season end due to an injury, but he will be in an absolute dogfight next year for the starting taolback spot. TJ will be breathing down his neck, and the sophmore to be Chris Coby will be in the mix as well."
