  1. This is a great story. Coach Kilman is a great coach, educator, and man. He has impacted a lot of athletes and students over the years. Teague is lucky to have him in their school and their town.
  2. topher you are right on about Franklin. Was at Franklin Ranch this past weekend, very nice facilities. Turf infields with grass outfields. Bullpens attached to the dugouts. All of the fields that I saw were using portable mounds, so I don't know if they would host playoff games or not. But, a great facility. Jacksonville always has a pretty nice facility and they host quite a few playoff games.
  3. Trinidad ISD ( 1A Div. II about 15 miles west of Athens) currently has an opening for a girls coach. Volleyball, basketball, and softball are the coaching duties. 4-8 Generalist is the teaching field. Above base pay+ days+ district pays toward insurance. Would prefer head coaching experience, but not required. Would like to have someone with atleast 2-5 years experience. Please email resume to [email protected]. Thanks
  4. Has anyone heard if they hired someone yet?
  5. Good luck to Cayuga. Johnson will be tough to beat if the defense is sharp and the offense can scratch a few runs across. Branch will have his kids ready to go.
  6. All athletes today need to respect every game they play. I am always surprised about how many athletes don't know about or really appreciate the history of the sports they play or even the one they love the most. Baseball does have a long tradition and is considered America's pastime and certainly needs to be respected. Athletes today don't understand that they are currently doing the same thing that the all-time greats have done. All of them played high school athletics. I agree with your post 100%, athletes need to understand the history and they must show respect to the game. Good topic.
  7. I would say that Durham is a good dunker. I saw him take a lob off the glass and put it down two handed. He is a very explosive player and if he gets hot, you can pretty much forget about stopping him from scoring. He has a complete all around game. Laneville has some high flyers as well. Their pre-game is pretty impressive. They have a freshman that had a sick two handed throw down this year.
  8. Laneville and Douglass both have very good teams. Laneville has come out on top of Douglass both times in their district, both have been good battles. Both teams have great coaches. Laneville has a real good all around team that can get it done on both ends of the floor. Douglass will excute you to death and they play very good D. I would not be surprised to see either team get to Austin. Of course, there has been a lot of talk about Cayuga, CVille, and Teneha posibbly getting out as well. On the girls side Neches should be getting their 3-peat.
  9. Golf is a sport. It is very demanding and you have to play it a lot to play at a high level. It is more difficult to play than most other sports. If you think it is not difficult because pros walk or because you ride a cart when you play, then next time you go out put your bag on your shoulder and walk 18 and see how you feel afterwards. Golf is a sport and it is a great game.
  10. No name change needed. That would really hack some people off. But, they do need to bring back the Rainbow jerseys and the orange hats.
  11. ESPN is reporting that former Cowboy reciever Sam Hurd has been arrested on drug charges. Apparently, he was wanting mass quanities of coke and weed that he was intending to sell and distribute. I am sure that the Bears just love having this guy on their roster. It is always hard to understand why guys that have so much talent and are professional athletes find a way to screw all of that up.
  12. Thoughts and prayers for the families of the ones who were lost and to OSU. Coach Budke was a great coach and man. I had the pleasure of knowing him from his days at Trinity Valley and he was a great one. Knew a ton about the game of basketball, was a down right winner, and he had a great impact on his players. His impact on the women's basketball program is still felt today at TVCC. Sad Sad news.
  13. This is just a horrible situation all the way around. For the victims, the university, and for Paterno. The university officials had to do something about this and chose the actions they took. The bad thing for Paterno, (either he did right or wrong) is that his coaching career comes to an end like this. This guy is a legend, but now his career is tainted. I mean when most people think of Penn State, the first thing you think of is Paterno. I am not saying firing him was the wrong move, because it pretty much had ot be done, but it is just sad that his career ends in this manner. Sad days for their university and for college football.
  14. The Rangers have to get to Carpenter early tonight. I am almost for sure he will start or come out of the pen early. The Rangers just have to finish. Here is a question, Has there ever been a better World Series? Every game except game 3 has been just a great ballgame to see and Game 3 was historic in itself. I don't know that I have ever seen a better series. The 91 series was a good one with the Twins and Braves, 86 Sox and Mets was pretty good, as was 01 with the D-backs and Yankees. But, I think this series tops them all-it will only be sweeter when the Rangers take game 7 tonight and bring the trophy to Texas.
  15. This has been just a great series. It is just awsome the Rangers are 1 win away from the title. I didn't know if I would ever see it. They have played pretty dang good with the exception of game 3. I think Lewis pitches a gem tomorrow night and they bring the crown to Arlington.
  16. There are a few things that went wrong last night. Pitchers got behind in the count, leading to walks. We didn't hit with RISP. LaRussa managed the NL game to perfection and the Cardinals made plays when they had to. But, with all that it was still a good game that could have gone either way. The Rangers are going to be alright and if last night is any indication then the series is going to be a good one. I could see the Rangers really erupting tonight and putting a lot of runs on the board.
  17. I know that some of these schools do not play any type of football. The east Texas schools that do play 6 man are Karnack, Leverets Chappel, Apple Springs, Oakwood, Chester just started up last season I believe, and Trinidad, that I know of. It is a shame that some of those schools have not started a program, because 6 man is a very exciting game. Some people think that it is small and weak compared to 11 man, but they should really try and see a few games and try and understand it. Some of those schools on your list could put some good teams out on the field.
  18. This is all real stupid. Any university would have taken their own network and 300 million if they were offered, including the members of the Big XII that are complaining. Now if the conference is going to fall apart, I don't think Texas is the one that will have to worry about finding another seat at the table. Some of the other universities might have some trouble, but not Texas. Hopefully, everything works out well for all the schools and we all get to see the sports we love.
  19. This is not a surprise after the other night. Gilbert just made some bad decisions and didn't get the offense going. Hopefully they get all of it worked out and we can get the offese rolling.
  20. Not a fan of the Maryland uni's. Looked like something an arena team or an old USFL team would wear. I do like some of the other new uni's that have been coming out, but a lot of them are just no good.
  21. Athletes should always lift weights no matter what sport you play. During the season and in the offseason. Lifting does make you bigger and stronger, but it also helps prevent injuries in the joint areas. Now the way in which they lift during their season should be looked at. I would never want a kid lifting heavy weights on a game day, if there is lifting going on for a game day it should be light weight. Since this topic is about pitching, I would not want a pitcher lifting on a game day that he is schedule to throw or on a day he might pitch in a game. Pitchers are not big huge guys with massive chests and arms. They have to be flexible. Pitchers need to be strong in their legs and in their core.
  22. The amount of innings a player pitches or the number of pitches a pitcher has is up to the coach and the player in most cases. I would think that most coaches would go by pitch count. There are a lot of different thoughts on a certain number of pitches a pitcher should though, depending on the kid. I think most coaches would not want their pitchers going more than about 115-120 in a game. Some coaches a little less some coaches a little more. But, there have been comments lately where kids have thrown many more and even exceeded 200 pitches in a game. When you are handling a 3 game series, you just have to take how much the kid has thrown recently into consideration, before you run them back out there again. Most all baseball coaches are good about not throwing a pitcher too much. As far as a small school, you need to have 3 pitchers if you get a 3 game series, if not you just have to find a way to piece it together with the guys you have.
  23. Athletic Banquets are a great thing to have. It allows a time for your athletes to be presented for all that they have accomplished this year. They do get be long from time to time, but that happens. Sadly, this year our banquet was not very good at all. We just did not have the normal turnout this year.
  24. Could be HBP and dropped 3rd strikes where the runners reach. Saw this kid play last year during the playoffs as a freshman and if he stays healthy he is going to be a good one. Swings it very well at the plate and does a good job on the mound. Good luck to him and his team.
