  1. Here is my scouting report based on what i am hearing... Cayuga beat Carlisle 28-7 last year, and doesnt lose much on either side of the ball. They have a shot at making some noise in this district after finishing up last year 8-2 in their first year in a new offense, defense, and with new coaches. Carlisle is always tough and Coach Baker does a great job of preparing his kids for war. They have to replace a few key parts as well, but they are always solid, and will be a tough matchup for anyone in this district. Alto will always be tough, Couch Gould has to replace some key offensive positions, but he has the pieces in place to make this happen. They are the clear favorite for this district, and barring something unforseeable, i think they win it. Kerens will better than they were this year if everyone plays and they avoid injuries that plagued them last season. Coach Anderson has run the spread there for a long time, and has had a lot of success. They always have talent and can win on any given night. Cross Roads had one of their better seasons of late winning several games, and playing Kerens close for a half. They are young, have a solid quaterback, but their o-line, d-line, and receivers still need to develop to be consistent. They will be improved, but may not get in. Grapeland graduates one of their better classes, and still struggled last season. With the new focus on basketball (Basketball coach is AD), I am not sure how this translates to many wins in this district. One thing I do know is that they have some young talent, and Coach Brown is pushing them very hard to prepare for next season.
  2. Welcome back from Cayuga! Good to see the return of the smack....
  3. Lol! I am a Yuga homer, and I keep up with what is going on with my philosophizing (is that a word?) friends in Yuga town, but to say that the kid from Italy was recruited is ridiculous. Italy hired a new head coach, and he hired some new coaches, one of which happened to be the quarterbacks dad. Great hire in my opinion. This happens all the time, and I think he made the right move. As far as Cayuga, I do know that most, if not all of the kids that were a part of the state champions teams in football and basketball were here through midle school and high school. There may have been a move in here or there, but those kids all had family members employed in the area, so to say that they were recruited is a stretch, just like it would be to say that the Italy kid was recruited. To say a kid was recruited implies that a coach's moral and ethical standards are not up to snuff, I hate how casually these terms are tossed around. Skinny gone...
  4. Not too sure, he came out with a big cast on his hand, so i assume that he broke his hand the previous game. He played defense and made a few good plays and big hits, but he did not play offense.
  5. Great game by the Wildcats! The first game I have seen this year, and it was a dominating performance on both sides of the ball. The kids looked primed and ready to go! I think those three personal foul penalties by Overton in the first quarter and some of the trash talking early on really motivated the Cayuga kids. Overton is a different team without the big running back, the other kids just looked worn down by the end of the game. Cayuga layed a few kids out with some big hits. Hope Overton is back to being healthy for their district run. Great job Cayuga, you will be tested by Carlisle!
  6. Prayers to all of the Miller family.... and specifically to BigRagu, a smoaky member, Brandons biggest fan and his father. I know this is a terrible loss, may God comfort you in your time of need.
  7. I was at the game and may have missed some of the stuff that happened, but talked to a friend who knows some of the cayuga coaches, and he said the coaches said that the player who was injured was fine and that all of the stuff on the sideline was strictly precautionary. So that is great news, only a little banged up but will be ok. He also said that the cayuga coaches didnt think the hit was made with any ill intent, that kerens kid was a football player making a play, and that it looked like a good hit, but his helmet hit the cayuga players chest and then up through his chin, so it could have been seen either way depending on your view. things got a little testy after that, but there were no fights as someone else stated, both teams played very hard and put it all out there. Kerens has a very good football team, and the coach said that the kerens kid that made that hit seemed to be a good young man, and obviously one heck of a player. Give credit to the Kerens players and coaches for the win. Cayuga had too many mistakes to win this game. The defense stepped up and played a great game, give those kids credit! Cayuga lost a lot of key players off of last years team and have had other kids step up and make plays for them this year. Cant wait for next years game! Good luck Kerens the rest of the way, we will be rooting for our district rivals to make some noise in the playoffs.
  8. It is the parents responsibility to be open and honest, however, if a coach even suspects something isnt just right, then he should dig a little deeper. It is the parents fault for being dishonest, it is the coaches/admin. fault for not checking a little bit more into the background of the tranfer student first. There is plenty of blame to go around. Just my opinion. Do feel bad for the kids at Troup that have to suffer the consequences for mistakes the adults made. At least they are not district games.
  9. You were obviously reading something by someone not at the game. Cayuga should have by 40 or more points. Not taking anything away from Overton, they had some big boys and were not afraid to mix it up at all, they are still just learning, and will get better week to week. There were some questionable calls made, and then all the turnovers. I do not recall an Overton turnover resulting in great field position, or an easy score. Cayuga's offense was hot and cold all night, with the turnovers killing any momentum in the second half. Hopefully they play a little more consistant this week and take care of the ball. Defense was lights out all night long. Good luck versus Mount Enterprise! Go get em Cayuga!
  10. Cayuga in a sweep. Dominant tonight, although Lovelady made it easy with their first inning lack of pitching. It is obvious that Lovelady has talent, but I have to question the coaching going on over there. I dont have an issue with the coach or even know his name, but man I thought he mismanaged his team. Yeah, yeah, I know, it is easy to coach from the bleachers, just my opinion! Oh well, makes it easier for us. Could not get over the hump against Cayuga, like I said. The first game was great, tonight was a yawner for the most part. Great season Lovelady! Good job Cayuga, lets get ready for the REGIONAL FINALS!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. Thought this was one of the more intense games I have seen in a long while. The umps call were VERY inconsistant all night long, along with two terrible calls by the third base ump and a clear tag out at 2nd that was called safe. I really thought they were trying to give the game to Lovelady for a while there, but then they made some bad call aginst them as well, so they were just bad all the way around. Cayuga hurt themselves with a series of errors that got Lovelady back into the game. Lovelady did a great job of taking advantage of those errors, and both teams made contact all night long. Both starting pitchers battled and had their moments, Cayuga got themselves out of a no out, runners on 1 and 3rd jam, without giving up a run. After that, it was clutch hitting, and smart base running that won the game for Cayuga. Great baseball game that last lasted close to 4 hours long!
  12. We can keep our cool, and trust me we have had plenty or adversity over the last few years to last a lifetime...lol! Yeah, i hear you, i might be wearing black and gold myself! Be careful on the drive in, leave a little early, I heard they have some good bar-b-que somewhere around Lufkin. On a serious note, good luck to both teams. go cayuga!
  13. See what first hand??? I will be there, heard Lufkin had a nice field.
  14. Lets talk about the boys side of this little rivalry...Football - Lovelady could not beat Cayuga in football, it was a good game, there were some pretty big plays by both teams, a cheap shot or two, but Cayuga got the job done. Basketball - It is a good thing Lovelady didn't play Cayuga in basketball, because it would have been a beatdown, with Lovelady getting run out of the gym, just my opinion. Baseball...hmmm, Lovelady is a very good team, good pitching, good hitters all through the lineup from what I hear, I just dont see them getting over the hump, Yuga in two.
  15. Congrats Coach! Keep the kids working hard, and good things will happen!
