I know he may be more recognize on def, but Marc Broyles has to be on the list. You got SA Barnes. Hawkins from about 5 yrs ago. Coach Wilson style with the multiple running backs, kinda makes the list long for me. Jessie Taylor, Cliff Edwards, Robert Gorman. Price. I think Cikai Champion played qb and rb. He was everywhere. But really the some of the most effective runners at JT from Wilson era to recent have been qb like Jeremy Johnson. Toke probably best runner since Earl and he was the qb. Then you can add David Bush, Bryson Smith, Mickey Jones, and Greg Ward to the list.

I know alot of coaches don't like 7 on 7, especially on the def side, because they say it teaches bad habits.

No doubt its a very prestigious school. I just figured he was confusing it with Cornell or Columbia. Regardless, it says alot about a kid to get offers from an Ivy, Little Ivy, Duke, Stanford, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, John's Hopkins...etc.

I don't think Colgate is an Ivy league school, but its a very impressive school. Says alot about that kid to have an offer from them.

I didn't attend, but I notice this spring that the numbers are down in the program. Probably expected with a new coach, but I thought afternoon practices would help. I think I counted something between 60-70 players. Probably needs to be at least 80 if you want to field a JV and Varsity next yr. There are a few players I was looking for who were big contributors to the team last yr, like Drummer at RB and Neal at LB, but I didn't see them. But it appears the majority of the returning major players stayed with the program. Looks like a battle for qb spot between collins and williams. Its probably hard to tell if there is improvement in a spring game, but I like the new coach demeanor. Hopefully this translates to wins. looking forward to upcoming season. Hopefully the upper classmen numbers will increase in the fall.

I agree, it will be interesting. I do like the new coach demeanor. Kinda has a coach Rush vibe to it. I know he has come in and made some quick changes. I know several people that think he will do a great job. I hope so. He has done well in other places.

Let's talk about school bond elections in East Texas...
JTFAN99 replied to Mavchamp's topic in High School Sports
its not the only way, but its Texas sneak way of collecting more revenue while saying to the public that we have low taxes. We all want things, but at the same time we want low taxes. So we either got to get money from a tax source or decrease spending. But they never decrease, so unfortunately you left with this option. I don't agree with it, but thats how it is. I think I read Texas has like top three highest property taxes in the US. -

not going to happen. Without a state tax and generally low sales tax across the state, this is the only way to make it up. -

Not true. Although property taxes fund the majority of the school district expenses in Texas, the rest of it is funded by State and Federal Funds. Of course, state funds come from Sales Tax, which is something everyone pays. -

Some pay more than others, but EVERYONE pays taxes. You buy a happy meal, you paying taxes. Also, if you referring to property taxes, think about those in the military who don't own a house. Do they have a right to decide? -

Hey. I understand. -
aww ok. Moore is like the campus coordinator so I can see why they kept him around. Well I think they started today at 4p so I guess we know they will probably be practicing in the afternoon now.

2022-23 District 15-5A & 16-5A Other Sports Thread

I read Tyler High got a loss to Pine Tree in Baseball earlier this yr changed to a win because Pine Tree used an inelgible player. I think that makes them 3-7 in district. Not sure the last time they won 2 district games. Probably the 90s.- 420 replies

Carthage are doing what they have to do to keep a legendary coach in place. I give them alot of credit for that. Pretty much made it impossible to leave except for a big time college position. I understand both sides of it, but its the world we live in. -
on paper, Lee has put together a good staff. I wish we had more detail on JT staff. I know who the OC is, but not clear on anything else.

Kid has an offer to Nebraska. You don't get that running 11 flat. Speed runs in his family. I think his brother medaled at state in 100 and 200m. I think he was a 10.3 or so runner too.

hmmm. See that is where bonds get a bit tricky. There are many sites that discuss this, but bonds do cause you an increase amount of money, even if the tax rate stays the same. Nothing in life is free. -

nobody really wants higher taxes, but there are people who will bite the bullet and pay them if they believe its beneficial. And there are many in more affluent communities who can afford to pay taxes. -

i agree with this part. i remember when Allen spent a ton of money on a stadium that had los of structure issues. but they could have built a nice stadium for half the price. but if you want to win these days you need nice facilities to attract good coaches...and players (lol). its sad but thats the game in texas. Next door in louisiana and Arkansas. coaches make much less and play in dumps
