  1. lobo99, I disagree with you, at least about Mesquite before Page's injury--- He's a big-time difference-maker, but injuries are a part of the game, and every team must play through them... JT played their guts out in the second-half...and I don't remember Mesquite taking one snap in the second-half inside JT territory. My Class 5-A Top 7 will change dramatically after last night, and that doesn't include what could happen tonight at both Hanby and Memorial. Smoaky
  2. JT dominated Mesquite in the second-half, and came back from a 13-6 halftime deficit to beat the Skeeters 27-13. JT outgained Mesquite 220-28 in the second-half, and had a massive advantage in overall time of possession, 33:33-14:27. John Tyler's Derrell Allen threw for 146-yards and ran for 84-more, Kendall Hunter rushed for 109-yards and two touchdowns, and Roderick Warren caught seven passes for 75-yards, including a clutch catch at the Mesquite one-yard line that setup JT's go-ahead touchdown, a one-yard run by Ramonte' Hampton. John Tyler has now won two straight games, is now 2-4 on the season, but more importantly, 1-0 in District 12-5A. The Lions will host Mesquite Horn next Thursday at Earl Campbell Field, at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.
  3. Good point about Brownsboro---being in front of Rusk and Westwood---but the circumstances just played out differently this time... Head-to-head means a lot to mean, but eventually those head-to-head meetings dissolve. Smoaky
  4. hogwash, There's no question how good Tatum is---but I wouldn't sell Jefferson too short. They haven't played a Gilmer, or someone like that, but let's let things play out. By the play---it's "anybody", not "nobody". Smoaky
  5. blackflag74, These are from the coaching staff and newspaper, "AND" you're getting his total offensive totals mixed up with his passing yards. He has 1,565 passing and 1,649 of total offense (rushing and passing). Smoaky
  6. What is a little ironic is some of the trash-talking posts, come from coaches under an anonymous name. I actually know of one football coach who took a pot-shot at his own program---so he could say someone was bad-mouthing his program. Hey, whatever works. Smoaky
  7. Diboll senior Gilbert Moye appeared today on my afternoon sports talk show--- As some of you know, he played his first game since the 2004 state championship game...and Diboll beat Splendora 42-33. Moye told me his five favorites are "in order": 1-LSU 2-Texas A&M 3-Houston 4-Missouri 5-Texas Smoaky
  8. whowouldthoughtit, Good point--- I'm not so sure you're not right, and we'll know much more after this weekend. Smoaky
  9. Please vote on who you predict will win District 12-5A in 2006. The standings are as follows: Mesquite (4-1) North Mesquite (4-1) Tyler Lee (4-1) Longview (3-2) John Tyler (1-4) Mesquite Horn (1-4) Mesquite lost their starting quarterback for the remainder of the season, Longview's two losses are to nationally-ranked West Monroe and Lufkin, JT probably played the toughest non-district schedule, and Tyler Lee's lone loss is to unbeaten Euless-Trinity.

  13. Whitehouse beat Jacksonville in every single phase of the game. It was an absolute woodshed game from the first snap. I was asked to speak at the Whitehouse Pep Rally earlier today, and I could sense even then...a Holy War mentality within the school and community. This was an absolute domination tonight for Whitehouse. Smoaky
  14. Coach Traylor confirmed tonight Curtis Brown was on crutches after suffering what appears to be an ankle injury---but not sure how severe...and they'll await MRI results...not sure when the MRI will be done or when the results will be available. I wish Curtis the best of luck... Smoaky
  15. and he confirmed blue-chip wide receiver/cornerback Curtis Brown was on crutches after an injury in the first half. He couldn't get into specifics, and I didn't ask him too, but he did say Brown would undergo an MRI sometime soon. Good luck to him... Smoaky
