  1. respect06, My responses are serious, tongue-in-cheek, and full of ****, it's just a matter of who can differentiate all three at once. Believe me...I'm used to the arrows, knives, bullets, and some larger weaponry coming my direction. I love it. Smoaky
  2. rclobo, I'm flattered any "bleacher talk" would mention Smoaky.com...thank you. Secondly, my current poll---has absolutely nothing to do with who I think will win the District 12-5A championship. It's based on "right now", and a lot can change between now and the opening games in 12-5A. In fact, based on the non-district schedules for JT, Lee, Longview, and even Mesquite...my Top 7 will without question change dramatically from week to week. I don't see any of the 12-5A teams running the table in non-district...if not most having a minimum of 1-2 losses. In regards to your question about JT and Lee ahead of Longview right now, it comes down to me being a Tyler-homer...and I've never-ever given Longview the credit they deserve. Please----you know me better than that...and if you don't, that's your problem. Last year---I had Longview playing into the quarterfinals, and all the Lobo fans loved me......oops...I missed that too, didn't I? But back to "now" and/or before the season began... JT had more explosive weapons returning on offense, and Lee had their starting quarterback returning and a lot of experience on defense. No one in the district will have more talent than Longview, but I have to make a decision...and I threw up four balls with everyone's name on it...and Longview landed further away. So...I've given you my answer...why should Longview be ranked ahead of JT or Lee? And "tradition" (that's getting old--literally), last season, and green is better than blue and red won't work. Smoaky
  3. Lobo99, If your philosophy holds true, South Garland is better than Longview, right? The same South Garland that was mauled by Waco High, 31-3 last week? Last season means "absolutely" nothing now. Probably a good thing, since Longview ended their "dream team season" with a huge thud, Lee didn't even make it to the playoffs, and JT blew a lead against Garland. Smoaky
  4. Lobo99, Very few--if any polls I've seen involving 12-5A have Tyler Lee as a favorite, where does that come from, not sure where you read or saw that information. From what I saw and what I know about the Longview-West Monroe game...I think they can all be thrown in the air and see who falls where from week to week, or until we see some head-to-head competition. The same can be said about Mesquite, but losing to Plano isn't a bad thing, they're very good again. Secondly, whatever "polls" you want to refer to, none of them mean anything to me...I don't go other polls because those are statewide...mine is East Texas, with 5A being a hybrid poll because of the lack of enough 5A's in our area. Both Lee and JT have tough road tests this week, let's see what happens and perhaps we'll know more... Smoaky
  5. Texanfan220, Good question...I had about 5-teams who could've been #9 and #10, so I went in alphabetical order "backwards"...and Hemphill was the odd-man out this week. Seriously, I noticed their win...and they're on my radar screen. Smoaky
  6. If Winnsboro beats Hughes Springs, they'll get strong consideration for a ranking..."but"...it will also depend on what others teams do...like Corrigan-Camden and others who aren't yet ranked. Unlike most other polls...I'm not always inclined to drop a team for a loss---it depends on who they lost too...and in some cases, a team can move up after a loss if it's too a high-quality team. Smoaky
  7. I don't know about other games I haven't seen involving Texas High...but it appears as if they do this a lot...(letting teams back into a game). Anyone remember the Highland Park game in the first-round a year ago? Texas High led 17-0, and lost in a shootout... I don't think I've ever seen a more perfect half from a quarterback than what I saw from Ryan Mallett. He was as sharp as humanly possible. Joe Anderson (#4) is a stud too...both as a receiver and safety... JT showed some character climbing back into it...and they appeared to solve their miscommunication and lineup problems on offense in the second half. Although Texas High dominated the time of possession, especially in the first-half, Kendall Hunter must get more touches...he's too explosive not too. Malina is a bull and they finally hot him loose too... Allen will only get better with experience. JT can't afford too many injuries, and I wonder if Marquis Moore will return, who appeared to leave with a leg injury. That's not a position of depth for JT. Smoaky
  8. They have been in the past, but our region---especially to the west and northwest have changed in recent years, and Commerce isn't considered. If they were eligible, they'd be ranked. Smoaky

  12. football4life, And so is Whitehouse... Smoaky
  13. I tried to ban myself for the heading...but the system refused to fire the owner. Secondly, there's a broadcast team that does Gilmer football, so that's their game, not ours. Smoaky
  14. Okay, just a little opportunity vent a little bit...in a good way. Sports Talk will be live from TMF Rose Stadium tonight and tomorrow... Plus our live game broadcasts include: Friday, Lake Highlands vs. Tyler Lee Saturday, Forney vs. Whitehouse Saturday, Texas High vs. John Tyler It's that time again... Smoaky
  15. out2prove, You might be right... However, give me a solution, not a question. Smoaky
  16. As usual, an easy question turns into "going off topic". My question wasn't who might be who...but what one-game do you think will be the shocker of the week. I know Evangel beating Lufkin would be a shocking upset, but that's not what I'm asking... I'm asking what game you feel certain will be the shocker of the week. Stay on topic...thank you. Smoaky
  17. I understand...but I have to go on my gut feeling...and believe me...my gut feels two things...maybe three things. 1) Hunger... 2) Too much weight... 3) And I have no clue who will win District 12-5A this season... Smoaky
  18. respect06, I can't rank everyone, and there are always a handful of teams that are bubble-teams...and with such a major shift in realignment this season, we all need to sit back and let things settle... And while I'm at it...with all due "respect"..."respect" is spelled "respect", not repsect, after all your name is related, right? Thank you. Smoaky
  19. For those who've seen the "Membership Top 10's", and perhaps other polls locally and throughout the state... Please email me your "darkhorse" picks for teams that aren't getting enough love...AND GIVE ME YOUR REASON WHY. My poll will be released Sunday evening...so email IMMEDIATELY at [email protected]. Thank you for the love. Smoaky

  21. Each year, especially during the first 2-3 weeks, there are a handful of games that shock East Texas... I'm not talking about just any win, but a final score that not many thought possible... Who is your "one" choice to be the Week Zero "shocker"? Smoaky

  23. bringit7872, I didn't say he was at Tyler Lee last season, I said he used to be at Tyler Lee...otherwise there wouldn't have been an eligibility issue in the first place. Smoaky
  24. District 12-5A made two eligibility rulings today... John Tyler senior football player, William Granberry, has been cleared to play this season. Granberry once attended Tyler Lee. Meanwhile, Erika Warren, a junior basketball player who transferred from Tyler Lee to JT, has been ruled ineligible. She does have the option to appeal. Smoaky
