  1. This is Denison's first year to play in SQT's. Our new coach, Chad Rogers, was a proponent of 7 on 7 while he was in Snyder, and has encouraged our players to take part in it. We played poorly in our first effort at Plano West last week, but I hear that we showed a little improvement this week. In all honesty, even our really good teams (like the state semifinalists a few years back) have never fared well in 7 on 7. I think that they are taking it a little more seriously than they did our sand-lot variety we usually played. Did anyone see the Jackets play? I'd just like feedback--- good or bad. After the last two devastating seasons with a 5-15 record, I'm just glad they are playing. We could certainly use the practice, and hopefully the time spent together will help in bonding them as well. Congrats to Longview and Tyler Lee on qualifying!
  2. Sorry about your loss, Wildcats. I was pulling for you. One thing is for sure. Sulphur Springs will be back next year, and the future looks bright. Congrats on a good season and your District Championship!!
  3. Great job by Sherman on both sides of the ball. The defense was great this game as they have been improving each week. I'm with you on not understanding the Whitehouse game plan. Their passing game is what got them to the playoffs, so why change that plan? Sherman had the receivers covered really well all game though! I'm happy for the Cats. Good luck against the Indians next week!
  4. I'm happy for you, Tige9er! Were you able to make the game? Hey, doesn't that make a pick 6 in the last seven games? It sounded like the Cats had ALL phases of the game together in the second half-- most impressive! I'll have to go see the Sherman-Waxahachie game if I can..... the Sherman radio guys are a beating.
  5. The Indians are STRONG this year! One of my worst football memories since I became a Denison fan was the 56-0 loss to Waxahachie in '92 at Texas Stadium. It was HORRIBLE! All of the years following when we had such great teams we never got to play them again to redeem ourselves. UGH!! Good luck tonight to Sherman and Whitehouse!! I hope that you have a great game. It will be a beautiful night for football. Both teams best be careful at Hanby! The TRACK surrounding the field is EXTREMELY SLICK, and we had players injured on it (D.J. Jones against Lincoln just before we had to play Sulphur Springs in '08!!-- YIKES).....not good..... and then another player against Marshall in '09. The opponents lost some players because of it too.
  6. Yes, I see that you have added Gender: Female!! You are SO FUNNY! I think that it is disappointing that any woman would be so crass as you are, but I suppose that it takes all kinds to make up this crazy world. Your name-calling is pathetic, my dear. It doesn't get under the skin. It just makes YOU look ridiculous. Just in this year you have called me and others " clowns, idiots, liars, white trash."....and the list goes on. Wretch? You just make me laugh! !!! I guess this is why they don't love having women on football boards! Sorry guys!
  7. EVER ABUSIVE, aren't you? You are so childish and petty! Actually, I never said that Denison would beat Sherman. I said that one never knows what will happen in a game of that magnitude. I also never said that Royse City would beat Sherman. I have no idea where you get YOUR information, SHSCATTY! Actually, someone on this site said that the Whitehouse defense was improving. ... Perhaps he was wishful thinking?? It was a couple of weeks ago, I think.... It was written about the same time as the post where some guy said that you write like a woman , throwing "witchy" comments, and gossiping at games. DId you happen to read that one? It was hysterical. I suppose that most fans from Whitehouse may wish that they had a defense as strong as their offense! I doubt, however, that they are willing to throw in the towel just because you think it will be an easy victory for Sherman. I hope that Sherman and Whitehouse have a great and exciting game next Friday night. May the best team win.
  8. I have read that the Whitehouse defense has improved late in the season too. Any thoughts?
  9. I grew up in Sherman and graduated from SHS, so I'll definitely be following the Cats through the playoffs. I have many Sherman friends who have traveled the state with us through the years to support the Jackets on several runs at state. We share a fierce rivalry, but we often share family too! Good luck to the Bearcats!
  10. Whenever they were pulled, it was kind..... so was running the clock. It's good to get playing time for the reserves too. It sounds like Kolby Milner had a great night after the move up to 4A. I'm sure it will be great to have him for the playoff run.
  11. I'm sorry to hear about the Whitehouse injuries! Our Jackets had seven starters out for most of the season last year, so I can relate. It's too bad that your players won't be back for the playoffs, but it sounds like you'll be really strong next year! Congrats on making the playoffs. We're gong to try to make it for the Whitehouse - Sherman game. It sounds like it will be an offensive shootout. It should be exciting! Is it set for Hanby?
  12. You're funny! He moved into the district in September. After he won the UIL appeal, I guess he began practice with the team on Friday? It will really be interesting to see where they play him, if they do yet. It's a shame that he missed so much of his senior season. i wish him luck. I remember that at the beginning of the year, Coach Kinne said that the Cats were having problems with the running game. Braylon Mitchell and Eliljah Butler (a transfer from Denison) have started performing much better. Those of you who know the Sherman program can tell me this. Did they just recently move Mitchell from linebacker, or has he always carried the ball for the Cats? Whatever-- He looked VERY impressive against Denison! We had a great little receiver come in from Honey Grove a few years ago, and I remember that his parents told me it was a huge adjustment moving up to 4A. His second year here he played on the State Semifinalist team, but busted out his knee early.... jumping up to CELEBRATE A TOUCHDOWN of all things!! It makes me cringe now every time I see players do that. (Sadly, I haven't seen much celebrating of that sort in Denison this year...as TD's have been hard to come by!! -- That's just a touch of levity through the tears, you know?) We really missed him on the field, but he was a terrific leader for the team all the way! Poor guy; he missed almost all of his senior season too. Have fun in the playoffs! The Jackets are sitting home..... yet again.
  13. That is really good news that Joseph Harvey will be back! He is a great young man and a terrific athlete in so many roles for the Bearcats. J.T. Luper is excellent also and has done a really fine job in Harvey's place.
  14. Anyone have the score?? Anyone have the score??
  15. Personally, I couldn't understand why a senior would transfer into another town at the end of football season, unless it was for FAMILY reasons, not for football.!! I wonder why the DEC didn't allow the transfer. What was the controversy? I suppose we'll never know. Good luck to all 13-4A teams in the playoffs!!
  16. Welcome to the board, Sherman! It's great to have a level-headed fan join the crew. I was also really happy about the display of good sportsmanship from both Denison and Sherman fans! And I was thrilled that Mr. Sutherland avoided his usual side comments. He even congratulated both teams for a fine effort at the end of the game! It's a great improvement. Congrats on a game well-played to the Sherman Bearcats. I'm sorry that we couldn't have made the score closer, but I'm proud of the Jackets' for not giving up. Sherman certainly has some tremendously talented players and a good coaching staff as well. Even though Elijah Butler transferred, I was happy to see him get to play so well in this Battle of the Ax. He had some problems (injuries) last year with the Jackets that hampered his production, but everyone could see his potential. Good luck to him and to the Cats going forward in the playoffs. WOW! You aren't kidding about J.T. Luper! He is GREAT! Add that to the return of Joseph Harvey next year, and the Cats will be a force in the district (wherever we end up..... who knows?).... I'm sure that Torey Long will do a good job at QB if he is the one to win the job next fall. I'm hoping that Denison will carry through with plans to play the SQT seven on seven, so we might get to see each other there. If Clifton Hines remains our quarterback, he and the receivers really need the practice over next summer......
  17. I must say that you are making yourself look ridiculous!! An educated person doesn't need to throw out childish insults such as "idots," "clowns," or "white trash" --- how absurd. I'm sure that you are making the good fans of Sherman cringe. You simply hit below the belt when you have nothing of substance to say. Try to compose yourself. Have you considered anger therapy?
  18. The story of this game has been the story all year long for the Denison Yellowjackets. We shoot ourselves in the foot with turnovers and hand the game over to opponents tied in a large red bow. As usual, the score is somewhat misleading. It was 28-17 going into the fourth quarter. We were able to move the ball, (over 300 yards), but the Jackets had three fumbles inside Sherman's 30 (one in the endzone!) and fumbled giving Sherman the ball on our four for a TD. Mistakes are part of the game, and we have certainly had our share this season. Is there talent on our team? Yes, but we certainly haven't gotten it together, that's for sure. Look, the Bearcats have a very talented team. I congratulate them on their win and wish them well in the playoffs. As an aside, that Sherman band had one of the most incredible performances I've ever seen by a high school band!! I never understand those who can't be gracious and show sportsmanship in a WIN, but I guess that would take CLASS. To come on a board and say things like "it wasn't much of a battle" or that their team won "easily" is incomprehensible to me. I think that our 1-7 young team put forth a valiant effort against a powerful opponent, and despite the mistakes, I'm proud of thier fight. Poor SHSCats just doesn't get it. Despite fan comments from virtually EVERY SCHOOL in District 13-4A, he simply can't see that Sherman behavior is perceived as offensive, classless, and rude. He just says that we are all jealous of them. He takes every opportunity to take swipes at others. If you defend with reason and make a good point, he never acknowledges it. He isn't big enough to admit to a mistake. He is a small little man, a cyber-bully, and pseudo intellectual. He would never admit that his Cats "didn't play well" because of pressure from our defense. He would never admit that when a team is up by a score of 42-24 with three minutes left in the game and still PASSING, that might be seen as running up a score. He of course would never admit that his perfect little team was flipping off our players from inside that giant overblown Bearcat head that was sitting RIGHT BESIDE our team's bench. He would also never admit that if the scoreboard has been broken for weeks as he says , then perhaps the SHS maintenance crew should have repaired it to show some respect for opponents-- Denison or otherwise. He also didn't admit that it was a SHERMAN radio announcer that brought it to attention and just dismisses it as typical Denison banter. We had a very odd article by Sherman's writer in the Herald Democrat yesterday. His focus in this Battle of the Axe week was the three transfers from Denison who were starting for the Bearcats last night. There are some comments both in and under the article raising some VERY INTERESTING questions! I wouldn't say anything about it, but it's already out there for public view!
  19. To begin with I would hardly call you a friend. Talk about CLASSLESS, how about your typically ungracious comments after your decisive win? Next of all, if you were sitting on the Bearcat side of the field you could not see what really happened as the Jackets were taking the field. As the Jackets made the turn by the giant overblown Bearcat head, the Bearcat players inside were not only taunting our players with words but using gestures as well. It would not take much imagination to conjure up what the gestures were. I happened to be sitting where I had a perfect view. And last but not least was the CLASSLESS ACT of the night. The Yellowjackets were not even listed on the scoreboard. There was a big ole blank where the opponents name should be. This was discussed on the radio by an announcer from Sherman who said that he felt it was very disrespectful to not have the opposing team on the scoreboard and had never seen anything like it before. Pretty low, even for Sherman. I must say that the fans on both sides were very well behaved tonight and believe it or not the Sherman announcer actually toned down his comments. Sorry I can't say the same for you, but some things never change.
  20. The score on the front page has Mount Pleasant 37- SS 20!! I almost fell out. I know MP is much improved, but that shocked me.
  21. I'm sorry about the injuries! The Jackets had out seven starters last year. It was terrible. I hope that everyone heals soon for MP.
  22. What is the situation in Mount Pleasant on the injuries at quarterback?
  23. Micotrav-- I'm sorry that the other teams in the district will have film to see those six awesome starters that returned for Bulldogs against Denison last week! It certainly took the Jackets by surprise! Here is to hoping Royse City will be SO TOUGH that Sherman has to break out of that boring, "plain vanilla" offense and will have to use the "flashy" stuff they have been saving for the playoffs..... I hope that your dawgs prevail. Best of luck this week.
