  1. I just don't see Cross Roads or Carlisle finishing in the top 3 ahead of Alto, Grapeland, and Cayuga, which would send Alto D1. Im not even sure if they are better than Cushing. Don't really see Overton being much of a factor. In the other district you have Mart, Normangee, Bremond, Riesel, and Lovelady ( also Iola ). Lovelady and Riesel are both bigger than Mart. I think top 3 will be Mart, Normangee, and Lovelady, which would send Lovelady D1. Although Riesel or Bremond could make some noise. Thats why I say: Alto = D1 Mart = D2
  2. From what I've gathered things are lookin' good!
  3. They wont meet. Alto = D1 Mart = D2 End of topic!
  4. It is 28-0. 14-0 last 2 seasons. Arp, Garrison, San Augustine, and Frankston on non-district schedule, all 4 are tradionally good, so it will be tough. Alto is going to be tough again though!
  5. West Sabine only has 2 pitchers, if it goes to a game 3, they will bring back their #1 to pitch it.
  6. Alto fell in games 2 and 3. Lost 6-5 and 7-0. Tough way to end it, great season at finishing 21-5, wanted to see you guys go all the way but just wasn't meant to be. Great season #4, proud of you
  7. Alto wins 1st game 6-3. Mitchell struck out 14 and was 2-3 batting with 2 rbi's and a triple. Jared Moore was 2-2 with a triple, 2 rbi's and 3 runs scored and got hit-by-pitch twice.
  8. Malone was nowhere near mid-high 80's. Real good curve ball though. West Sabine however couldn't handle Mitchells 90 mph fastball, he K'd 14. Alto wins game 1 by score of 6-3! :notworthy:
  9. How is Grapeland on a roll and a "sure thing" having to go to a game 3 to beat Cushing, a team Alto handled twice? I've seen Grapeland this year and I know what Cross Roads has, this series could go either way, Cross Roads is MUCH better than Cushing! And your crazy if you think their is no pitching after Mitchell for Alto, I don't know why people think that! <_<
  10. Whats the scoop on West Sabine? Pitching, hitting, fielding? Can't find anything about them.
  11. Game 2 a little bit tougher than 1st game, Alto made Gunnels throw a lot of pitches and had some good swings off of him. Lovelady should be tough next year, young team. Jared Moore went 6-7 with a walk, scored 6 runs and had 3 rbi's in the 2 games for Alto :notworthy:
  12. Alto beat Lovelady 11-1 in 5 innings in game 1 of the best of 3. Tarlandus Mitchell threw a no-hiiter; 5 innings, 0 hits, 1 run, 5 walks, 12 K's ( low 90's on radar gun ) Mitchell had a 2-run double, Rhett Gresham hit a 3-run homerun, and Jared Moore was 3-3 with 3 rbi's Game 2 tomorrow at 2 pm in Lufkin
  13. Cushing made 8 errors, Grapeland only had 4 hits. Murray is nowhere NEAR high 80's, someone needs to learn how to read a radar gun. :flowers:
  14. Alto will more than likely go D1 again. Carlisle and Cross Roads are bigger, but I see Grapeland and Cayuga as the other 2 playoff teams. Sorry Joaquin, you will probably get us in the 1st round! :sorcerer:
  15. Cushing plays Grapeland in Class A baseball series By travis turner Sports Correspondent Wednesday, May 07, 2008 It's said familiarity breeds contempt. So when Cushing and Grapeland meet in the playoffs for the second time in as many years in the first game of a Class A best-of-three series at 7 p.m. Thursday in Whitehouse, the Bearkats' redemption level should be off the chart. Game 2 of the series will be at 7 p.m. Friday. Game 3 (if necessary) will be at 7 p.m. Saturday in Whitehouse. The two teams are no strangers to one another. The Sandies swept Cushing in the Bearkats' first round of the playoffs last year. With that, there's no doubt revenge is on the mind of Cushing's senior-led baseball squad. This time around, Cushing looks to be the one holding the other end of the broom against the state's No. 5 ranked team. So far, the Bearkats are on the right track. The Bearkats (15-9, 9-3) swept LaPoynor in a bi-district match-up Friday to advance to Thursday's game. Cushing won Game 1 10-8 and Game 2 10-0. Grapeland boasts a 17-5 record. After earning a first round bye by defeating Lovelady for the No. 1 seed out of District 23-A, Grapeland is out to prove last year was no hoax. The Sandies advanced as far as the regional quarterfinals and return seven starters from that team, including its three aces on the mound. All-state third team pitcher Jared Murray and teammate Tony Taylor have led the Sandies on the diamond. Murray pitched a no-hitter in a 23-0 rout of Leggett in the latter stages of district play. Rustin Boyd, District 23-A offensive player of the year last year, and Devon Mayfield have been forces at the plate. Boyd homered and drove in four and Mayfield had two home runs and three RBI in the Leggett game. "They have a great pitching staff," Cushing head coach Ron Cheek said. "They have good hitters, too. In order to win this series, we are going to have to put the ball in play. "Instead of trying to pull every pitch, we are going to have to hit the ball where they pitch it. We have to lean on our experience to push us through." Cushing should have no problem with that feat. The team returns six seniors from last year's playoff squad. Cheek said he believes the experience gained from losing last year to Grapeland will help. The Bearkats, as a team, are batting just over .300 going into the match-up. Cushing played District 21-A champion and No. 6 Alto down to the wire in both its district losses to the Yellow jackets. Both pitching and hitting played a major factor in that series. "Our pitching has been doing really well," Cheek said. "It's been our hitting, though, that has stepped up over the last few games. We have been hitting the ball extremely well." Indeed. Tyler Gresham nailed a two-run home run and Logan Young and Clint Murdock each had four RBI in Game 2 against LaPoynor. Jordan Chacon added a hit and a RBI. Cushing's pitching staff consists of Jake Hunter (8-3), Jordy Gadddis (4-0), Murdock (3-1), Gresham and Deric Egan. Murdock allowed five hits and had six strikeouts and Egan struck out three and allowed only one hit in two innings in Game 1 against LaPoynor. Hunter allowed just one hit and had nine strike outs in Game 2. Cheek said he as been pleased with the way his defense has backed up his team's strong pitching performances. The team sports two freshmen at first and third — Logan Young and Mickey Gaddis. Cheek has been impressed with the way the two have handled pressure situations in big games this year. Having been there before, Cheek said his team knows what's at stake. With a roster loaded with experience and an improved offense, the Bearkats have the right ingredients to take Grapeland to the brink. Cheek is betting on that knowledge to advance. "We're a well-rounded team," the coach said. "We have worked really hard on hitting the ball well all year. It has paid off. It's time to put that practice to work. Our seniors have led this team this far, and we'll count on that against Grapeland."
  16. Is this for sure in Whitehouse? 7 pm on Thursday?
  17. What does Cayuga have after Carrol and Thompson? Do they have anybody if a series goes to a game 3?? I'd still keep an eye on Carlisle as well.
  18. Someone post updates on game 2, I cant get the broadcast to come up on my labtop
  19. A little surprised Cushing shut them out on a ten-run rule in game 2. Had heard a lot about how La Poynor could "smash" the ball.
  20. Heard Cushing won game 1 against La Poynor 10-8, how did game 2 turn out?? Also any word on the Cayuga/Mt. Enterpise games?
  21. Yeah the one inning killed us tonight. #3 and #4 will be alright. Mitchell and Dover handled EF's lineup pretty well. EF has some good sticks and are solid 1-9 and a lefty pitcher thats good. I did see where EF and Hemphill could meet up in 2 weeks, that would be a great series.
  22. Your funny and I hope you keep thinking that. Will still be good enough to beat Joaquin by 30-40+ though :flowers:
