  1. dwwd, how about you just post the whole roster the way you are naming guys to watch. What I mean by that is that it is pretty safe to say that all the teams that are left have 4-6 guys that you have to watch. That is the reason Garrison, Mason, etc are still there.
  2. Looking forward to seeing a good hard game from both teams tomorrow (I have no doubt both groups will bring their A game tomorrow). Also praying that neither team has any injuries serious or minor. Good luck to the young men on both sides of the field tomorrow.
  3. No I didn't graduate from BS and that is a long story in itself. I actually remember DPOY starting more than a few scuffles/fights at practice because he was being handled by myself. If you can recall that would have been my Soph year and he was in 9th and you would also be able to recall what actually happened instead of just smearing me. As you can see by my latest post I have attempted to turn over a new leaf and I advise you try the same. But if you want to continue how about you PM me and let me know who you are instead of hiding behind a screen name.
  4. I believe that defenses are the most potent when they do take it personal every time the opposing team scores. Without that in my opinion it is all too easy to just give up and let the opposing team do whatever they want to you. Thanks Sawboss for returning and bringing me back to the light I have gotten a little too emotional on this thread and have stepped on too many toes.
  5. This is the last time I will say anything about the said "idiot" if you know so much about him (you should know his name if you know so much and I am not going to share it) check his birth date (I am not saying he was ineligible I am just saying he was lets just say pretty much a year older than his counterparts) and the year this game was played in plus if you know his name check the Upshur County justice database to see the laundry list of reasons why he is an "idiot" because I was not referring to him as such based on what he did on the football field. I was not taking anything away from Stratford and you can quote me on that in an earlier post. Also, I only say to yank him (only in situations where hard counts may be used to get cheap first downs) after giving up so many first downs for ridiculous reasons i.e. jumping off sides like clockwork. Yeah the Stratford guys were well coached especially on the art of the hard count because if they had a down and distance of 5 yards or less they could count on getting it without even snapping the ball most of the time. Plus the last time I checked I have just as much right to express my opinion as any other poster on this site. Also if you read more closely in one of my previous posts I actually sided with the coaches decision to call the give to the big guy to pound for the two point conversion. I only faulted the decision of the QB to pull the ball and try to be the hero. I base that opinion on the players that told me what was called in the huddle none of which were my brother so don't even open that can of worms also on my experience as a coach of seeing a player occasionally thinking he knew a better play call than his coach and doing something different than what was called. Don't assume that I am only a video editing guy.
  6. Garrison has a good chance in 1A D1 in my opinion.
  7. Jorr2car I totally understand your confusion as to my explanation of the state championship game as a "reply" to your statement about the Harleton loss that was earlier in that season. I posted that as a reply to your statement because I believed it was a good parallel to your statement although it was not a direct reply. Also I did not mean to imply that you were not humble that was simply a statement to anyone in general that thinks BS may romp in this game and to my recollection you haven't said anything like that. Sorry for the confusion I should have spent more time setting it up but I was already long winded to begin with. The big fullback was stopped short a handful of times over the length of the game but still would have ended up with a respectable ypc average. But if the coaches thought that he was the best bet for two points I am sure we can all agree that 285 lbs beats 175-185 lbs at getting 3 yards 9 out of 10 times. Also my brothers number is not the important thing here and that is for a pm not this. Since I have entered coaching I have lost a lot of respect for player of the year, all state (all district), etc selections not because the kids that get it aren't necessarily deserving of the honor but the politicking that is involved. That should sum up my ideas on Defensive player of the year especially in that case. He played because he was a gap shooter and I understand why you would want that but when a kid is consistently jumping off sides in medium-short yardage situations you have to pull him and put somebody in there that won't give free yardage. Since you are a good investigator yes I do coach at Grapeland and I believe BS played a heck of a game against us in the first round. Just trying to call them like I see them. BS will play hard like they always do but in my opinion this one may not be very pretty at the end. But if BS pulls off an upset this Friday I will gladly eat all the crow I can hold.
  8. I was at that state championship game and my brother was on the field. They lost that game for two reasons and neither of them were upset material. #1 a DT that was always suspect for jumping off sides for no reason gave Stratford at least 5 first downs on 3rd or 4th and short situations when the Wildcats had Stratford stopped. Callaway knew how that idiot was (I only say he is an idiot because I know him and I played with him because he was a grade behind me. Also that story is too long to tell on Smoaky) and left him in for no other reason than he had some kind of soft spot for the kid. #2 on the 2-point conversion that could have secured rings for the 2005 Wildcats the QB took it upon himself to not hand the ball off like the play call called for and try to carry it in himself instead of handing the ball to a 285 lb fullback that was averaging around 20 yards per carry in the postseason and around 10 yards per carry on Stratford. That game was a melt down not an upset. I am not taking anything away from Stratford but Big Sandy beat themselves and it made me sick to sit in the stands and to watch my little brother miss out on what our dad did 2 times in the 1970's. Yes it is not impossible for Big Sandy to beat Garrison but this situation is as close to impossible as you can get. I coached against both of these teams this year and BS only barely beating us doesn't show too well for them playing against a team that could have outright put up 100 points against us if they would have wanted to. Get ready to be humbled this will most likely be an antitheses of the whoop-ins that BS put on teams back in the '70s (i.e. 1975 BS 91 - Carlisle 0 : 1973 BS 94 - Carlisle 0 : ETC). I will also say in the same breath that Garrison's staff has a better understanding of sportsmanship than that and will put JV/backups in if it gets too out of hand instead of just scoring as many points as possible. Don't get your feelings hurt BS fans because I am not trying to bash BS I still have a little bit of a soft spot for the Wildcats and I am only making an educated assessment of the situation and remember that I have been posting pro-BS all season until this point and will again in seasons to come.
  9. Garrison will and I stand by WILL stomp the Wildcats. The only team that Big Sandy has played that is even close to comparable is Carlisle and that game was a 43-6 affair with the Indians coming out on top. BS will be lucky if they even sniff the endzone. I don't usually get this into posts but that is how I see it because I have seen both play and Garrison is a class above at least for the time being.
  10. Alto will take this game with some style points. They played a much stronger team last week and beat them convincingly.
  11. Grapeland's biggest obstacle all year has been the mental side of the game. Some of the blowouts from earlier this season have only turned into blowouts after you can tell that a majority of the kids have given up after getting down by a couple of scores. If they can keep their minds in the game the Sandies will win this matchup. The Sandies have more weapons overall but I am not taking anything away from a fairly solid Big Sandy Wildcat team. It's going to be a good game but I believe the Sandies will come out on top of this one.
  12. Grapeland is not playing in Brownsboro
  13. Winner/Loser of this one gets the Loser/Winner of Grapeland and Alto for the first round of the playoffs. Good luck to both sides.
  14. All of the small schools that I have been around 1A and some 2A (I can't speak for all of them) usually bring up their JV to Varsity. In the case of the school that I am coaching at right now we have been able to put some JV kids in on kickoff and kickoff return so we can rest starters for a play or two here and there. For the little schools special teams are the biggest killers for their starters in my opinion. You have a lot more running for that one play than you normally have, you just finished a series and you are turning right around to cover a punt/kickoff/etc, and so on. So that one play off here and there for starters can really help you as long as your JV guys can handle themselves in that situation.
  15. Congrats on the All-American Bowl invite. Boo to the Sooners though.
  16. I had to go through the exact same thing my senior year. I feel for the poor kid. :(
  17. I think it may be a better game than a lot of people believe.
  18. Tough game but the Wildcats will see this one through. Wildcats by 12+
  19. Kats by 4 is completely hilarious. Look at what Garrison did to Grapeland and then in turn look at what Grapeland did to Cushing. Cushing lost a whole lot when they lost their starting running back (not that they had a serious chance even with him).
  20. Grapeland JH won in the last few seconds of the game last night. Pretty sure the Varsity game will be decided well before the last few seconds.
  21. I remember when we beat Hawkins 56-(6 or 7 I don't remember if they made the extra point or not). The only reason they got the one TD was because once we got up 42-0 coach pulled out the starters and put JV/Freshmen in to get playing time. You are right about feeling bad for them now because I think they only have 15 kids total on the high school squad. Hawkins' football program has really gone down in the last decade or so.
  22. Yeah I believe how this one works out is if Grapeland wins they have clinched and if Cushing wins they are in because of head to head. That is just what I have been told. So if that is true it is a very big game for both schools. Plus as long as Big Sandy wins out it looks as if the winner of this game plays Big Sandy round 1 of the playoffs.
