  1. But according to him,,,,,Hes a man. And hes 40 (+). LOL
  2. They should put seating in the endzone if they have no plans to build a new stadium. Never thought I would see the day when H town put turf down. If they built new dressing rooms and did some architectural design and remodel to the stadium entrance, it would improve greatly. ANyhow, glad to see they are doing something good for the program.
  3. It aint looking good fellas. Losses to UT Arlington, TAMU Corpus Christi, and Sam Houston. Those should be gimme games. Looks like they are sliding more and more as the season progresses.
  4. How much longer do you think Augie is allowed to stay as the Horns baseball coach. Over the last few years, they have declined. Last year was pretty good but no par for Texas baseball. I think getting rid of Gus Harmon years ago contributed to the decline. He did a lot of their recruiting. Has the game passed him by? Can he no longer relate to student athletes?
  5. What happened with Coach Hubbard? My desire is to hear truth and leave the bashing out of the answer. In my dealings with him, he always seemed to be a good guy.
  6. Great kids....absolutely. Great fb players...not so much. Last A.D. did it to himself. No accountability in the program, put the screws to the other sports, not very involved in the school, and the list goes on and on. No way my son would have ever played for him. Admin did not make him to do any of the things that were done so no way they can be blamed.
  7. I am well aware of the Dual contract agreement. However, compared to the teaching part of said contract, the monetary gain from the coaching part of it is very minimal. Most JH coaches are just that. JH coaches. Been at big schools and small schools and never seen a 7th grade football only contract. JH coaches scout, break down film, and do all the other jobs that varisty staff do not do. Not to mention, no one is 7th grade football coach only that I know of. They have other sports to coach as well. I agree with you about young men out of college getting feet wet. However, if this is all that coaches 7th graders, do we want newbies with no instructional/leadership experience teaching athletes appropriate beginning fundamentals which are very important?
  8. Wrong again. The only thing I may have been wrong about is shooting a little high on the stipend. Stipends are done many different ways. You are either a young coach or someone who really doesn't know himself. Enlighten me on the way your stipend works and prove me wrong. I need facts. Either way, I guarantee you that you are not bring home a substantial amount for JH football, much less 7th grad only football.
  9. Coaching provides very little of your overall income so using the act of coaching football has very little to do with providing. Coaches are teachers first. And I highly doubt that any stipend that you may not get by not having 7th grade football will affect you very much. Is that 1000 or maybe 1500 you get for that sport worth causing a kid problems down the road. I would hope your answer would be no.
  10. I heard a few weekends ago that Gary was getting their infield turfed. That would be awesome!
  11. Last I heard, Bowman is staying and no one was let go. Was told there were enough people leaving on their own free will so that no one was told to leave.
  12. Exactly!!!! But the problem is that at most schools, it doesnt happen like this. The athletic period is used for football. If we both have baseball teams that have to play each other and are of equal talent and we can choose which one we coach,....I take the boys that lift and beat you every time. I am very very very pro-lifting for ALL sports. As for those parents...well, if it wasnt raising hades for lifting it would be something else. There is no cure for stupid.
  13. I understand that. The post has evolved from the original statement. It does happen on here.
  14. I am speaking of the situation where AD/FB coach are different jobs/split.
  15. If the baseball, basketball, volleyball, softball coach, etc. has to teach, then yes, he should teach as well
  16. I didn't say pay the AD and Football coach both administrative salaries. If the FB coach is a coach only, then he is not an administrator. And I didnt say small schools. I said 4A and up.
  17. Doesnt change my opinion either way. I love the game. I just dont agree with the emphasis put on it to excel and not have the same expecations/tools provided to the other sports. I would have a hard time convincing myself that I was a good A.D. if all the sports at my school were useless except for football. (BTW, I am not an A.D.) I am all for splitting the positions in 4A and up.
  18. This is the mentality that I hate. As long as football is winning then all is ok. That rubbish. As much time as football gets DURING athletics, they should be undefeated every year. Last I checked, the title is usually A.D./Head football coach. If I am supt. and football is good but everything else is horrible, I immediatly do some deeper evaluation of my A.D. They get paid big money to develop the ENTIRE program and not just football. Other sports would flourish to if all the extra time went into their programs as football. Let the cheerleaders, band, pep squad, drill team, etc. go to other sports and attendance and revenue would both increase dramatically. Not saying it would be the same exactly, but would definately not be as lopsided. I wonder what would happen to the good football teams if they were treated just like baseball team where offseasons were concerned. Its easy to say football is King when all things are in place for the sport to benefit the program and generate revenue.
  19. BINGO!! I tried to explain this several posts ago but got the same dumb a reply about how football was the "King" in Texas. the problem I thought was that the AD was having a "Universal" offseason while the FB program worked on football. I have seen alot of Uinversal offseason operate something like this.......Football does drills while everyone else has "Universal" grab butt session in the weightroom while all coaches work football except the first year guy who wants to be all the kids favorite coach hangs out with the AYO's (All you others) in the weightroom. May have been wrong but that is how I took it. And for the record, I am as pro weights as you can get. Played for a Nationally ranked top 5 JUCO program and they killed us in the weightroom so baseball kids will get no sympathy from me for having to lift.
  20. BTW....What kind of athletic programs in this day and age do not lift weights? I can answer the question....NOT one my sons would be a part of.
  21. Great suggestion!!! Cause we all know how good UIL is at running things
  22. Then give baseball a few weeks of 2 a days and early practice to get ready .
