  1. Am I missing something here, or did I not read "Student Trainer". Like most of you on this thread, I know nothing about the real facts behind this incident. But I do know the difference between someone with a college degree and someone who is a "Student". Like most things in life, having the right context is the difference between understanding and MISunderstanding. I do not know what happened in that locker room. But I do know this... If I am an experienced coach who has been around a sport all of my life, and have seen and experienced sports injuries on many levels... And I see something occur and I know what happened and did not happen, and then have a "Student Trainer" who did NOT see what happened try and run over and tell me what WILL and WILL NOT happen next with my player? You can bet your sweet behind I'm going to put that "Student Trainer" in their place. I'm not saying that is what happened here. But I will tell you that probably 99% of coaches have been around sports injuries and know first hand what they ARE and what they ARE NOT. All trainers are not created equal... Nor are all coaches in fairness. But there IS a difference between being INJURED and being HURT! Having a Medical Doctor's opinion on the difference between the two is one thing. Having a "Student Trainer's" is another.
  2. You mean this guy??? http://www.buckeyesfootball.mobi/coaches/4e3b3b7c3abc602f6c00006f#/coaches/4e3b3b7c3abc602f6c00006f I guess I'll take that as a compliment ;-)
  3. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... And tell Buckeye Bob along those lines that I am trying to find the ORANGE Duct tape necessary to duplicate his "Rattlers" ;-). Now if we only had another 1,500 sets to hand out in the stands, we'd be in business. BTW, I do think the fans started realizing Friday they could save their voices and just stomp their feet to start a "Rumbling" on big downs. So I am hereby coining the phrase "Buckeye Thunder". But I think it would be a lot more intimidating if the fans stomped on those metal bleachers in a 1-2-3-4 times unison to simulate a MARCHING ARMY on those downs instead... Fits better with the brand, don't you think?
  4. OBSERVATIONS: 1. 16&17 year old kids are just that... "Kids". So the posts of "It's early" and "Anything can happen on a given Friday night" are duely noted... HOWEVER, 2. "Kids" under the appropriate authority, guidance and influence are capable of some pretty amazing things, precisely because they are capable of believing that anything is possible when those in a position of influence, motivate and instruct them properly. (See "Good Parenting" on Wikipedia, or "Good Coaching" here on Smoaky;-) 3. Have you seen Gilmer play? If so, then you tell me the quality of "Authority, Guidance and Influence" officing in the Gilmer Field House, and you can attest to the standards of motivation and instruction to which they are regularly subjected. If not, ask somebody who has and then buy a ticket... Because it is worth it to see what those kids wearing the "G" do play after play, year after year. 4. Gilmer fans are spoiled rotten, in that they are so accustomed to seeing it week in and week out, they lose their perspective on how good things really are in the "Buckeye Army". Last year, Gilmer had less "Talent" than more than half the teams they played. And yet they earned a trip in December to Jerry's world. They overachieved because they did not believe they we're EVER supposed to lose a football game. This year, they are likely in the Top 3 teams in the Traylor Era in terms of talent. Mostly the same kids, just a year older and wiser. SCARY fact, backed up by another set of facts, like... 5. They just hung 66 points while committing two turnovers inside the red zone, suffered 130+ yards in penalties, had SLOPPY execution, and all while simply dismantling a team that would likely be Top 10 in 3A as a Texas public school. 6. So, what you see here in Week 2 is already a team that is REALLY good, but I would argue that is still finding its identity and on a scale of 1-10 is playing ONLY around a 6-7 compared to what they have shown they are capable of (just check the stats they have put up against two "Playoff Calibur" teams thus far, and if that doesn't do it, then watch the film.) 7. I do see a potential "Let Down" emotionally this week for Gilmer, and for J'Ville to have a chance it is IMPERATIVE they get off to a blazing fast start. But even if that happens, these types of games help teams like this one FIND their "Identities". Buckeye fans will remember the Paris game in 2004 when that team looked up and said "We just beat a 4A Team.... BAD!". That followed by the Pittsburg game in Week 10 when NOTHING went right before Tay Bowser "Emerged" and helped Manny carry the BUX to a ring. Or the 2007 LE "Revenge" game where Justin Johnson ran over, around and thru LE to set up a "State Finals" run. Or the 2009 "Superman" semi final against Cuero where "Stump" became a Buckeye Legend. Those are the games that "Define" seasons and teams. This team has not had a game like that, although I would have sworn that last week would have been one of them.... But it simply was not. Gilmer played sloppy, and still had their way with one of the best teams they will face all year IMO. And they will have "One of THOSE Games" in the weeks to come...every HS team does. Even "Special" teams. And ESPECIALLy "Championship Teams". Is 2013 THAT kind of year? OK...ask urself Buckeye Fans... 8. Can you remember seeing a Buckeye team THIS good, THIS early, with still More up-side than a Snoop Dog tour bus? I will say it now. THIS team can have a 2004 defense with a 2009 offense. (I'll leave what those two years had in common to you.). But I will also say that THIS IS A TRAP GAME for the Buckeyes, and Bux fans, YOU CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE in this season on Friday Night! So...Wake up, gas up and pack up on Friday Night and roll to the 'Mater Bowl, because THESE ARE the "Good Old Days!" And this 2013 Team is shaping up to be something REALLY special if Gilmer can AVOID the APATHY TRAP. EVERY high school in America playing football would love to trade places with your team Bux fans. What Michael Irvin said in 2010, then witnessed personally last Friday Night was dead on. What happens week after week to team after team that face these Buckeyes is no accident. And you are cheating yourself as a fan if you take it for granted. There was a time not so long ago that the "Army of Buckeyes" rolling into town and occupying a visitor's side by 5:45 was common practice. Now you have a new stadium, and after 2 weeks of "Same old Buckeye Blowout" at home, I don't think Buckeye Fans are the same kind of "Hungry" you were a few years ago. We'll see Friday Night, but after witnessing first hand the atmosphere in Buckeye Stadium the past few weeks, I'm not exactly overwhelemed with the enthusiasm (BuckeyeBob NOT included in that analysis!). And while humility is a good thing, a little "PRIDE" showing up on 3rd downs is not against the law, even if the score is already 21-0. Now I'm. Ot encouraging arrogant trash talking. As fans, my hat is off to you who come on here weekly and humbly downplay how good this program has really become. But in terms of what happens on Friday against J'Ville, you'll have more of my respect if you show up Friday with a bit of an attitude and help ur Buckeyes AVOID this TRAP! Because that is EXACTLY what it is. J'Ville is 0-2, young, talented and HUNGRY with nothing to lose. And if Apathy puts on a white uniform Friday Night, the Injuns could have an ambush in store! I would LOVE to come on here and post an apology to the Army Saturday morning for "Calling you out!" Like this. But I call'em like I see'em. And this week is a TRAP GAME! if your team does not find a "Lift" somewhere in this game, they may very well be vulnerable. Kids can find that "Lift" in a lot of places, but when in hostile territory there's nothing like outnumbering the enemy to get you going. The AMBUSH is ON! So Buckeye Fans, make me a liar! Cause you can believe those Injuns are going to try and make me a prophet.
  5. Maybe so... But Kilgore is going to have to score TDs on about 6 out of 10 possessions and put 40+ points on the board to even be in the game with Gilmer. Granted, there is LOTS of football to be played before we see if they can do it, but assuming everybody on both sides is healthy, and I'm not so sure if the offense I saw tonight could not get to 40 on any 3A Team anywhere in the state. As was pointed out earlier in this post, Gilmer turned it over TWICE inside the PWL 5 yard line tonight...And penalties kept scoring drives alive 3 times for PW. Any honest football fan watching the game would tell you this thing probably should have been a lot worse than it was... But to hang 66 on that team, while turning it over 5 times, TWICE inside the 5???? I think Kilgore can do all the "Donkey Stompin" you want, it'll take a race horse to run with the offense I saw from the Buckeyes the first two weeks. Half a hundred plus 5 against Atlanta, and it was sloppy. Tonight they hung 66 on a REALLY good defense, and left 14 more points within 5 yards of the goal line. 121 points in 96 minutes is impressive no matter who ur playing. But Atlanta is in my opinion a playoff team, and I think PW would be "Top 10" in 3A pretty easily. So "Good Luck" to anybody who has to face what I saw tonight from Coach Traylor and gang. And the Buckeyes still have a LOT of room to improve, with a coaching staff that is as good as it gets working to do just that every day. To everyone potentially in the Buckeye's path this season...I'd take some advice from that song they play in Gilmer... "You'd better strap it up tight if you came to play with these Buckeyes!"
  6. This just in from Gilmer.... BIG News going out to all of East Texas.... And all 3A State wide... Wait for it..... The Gilmer Buckeyes????? Are still the Gilmer Buckeyes. (You'd think we'd all be used to it by now.;-)
  7. GOTCHA...just checking to see how long it takes for somebody from Carthage to come onto this thread and hi-jack it...let's see, (tick, tock, tick, tock). Hey Bulldog fans, we're all really happy for you, your kids, Coach Surratt, the band, your drill team, cheerleaders and FFA class. Seriously, you have built one of the finest programs in the state, and you are to be congratulated. But do us all a favor. If you want to discuss your program, start a "New Post" and have at it. We certainly don't mind if you want to come onto Gilmer threads and "Have A Take". Just stick to the topic. It gets a little annoying seeing threads about Gilmer vs Spring Hill or Gilmer vs Henderson turn into a running dialogue between 2-3 Carthage people about what Coach Surratt is or is not doing. Good luck the rest of the season, and I hope we see you again in December.
