  1. I agree BlackFlag. But if this is the case with bad weather, it will be critical that Gilmer plays well early and gets out to an early lead. Teams tend to "Panic" and get out of their ball possession game plan when they get down a few scores to Gilmer. In the cold, wet, miserable type games and kids involved... It can come down to "Who wants to be here more!". If Center is cold, wet, and down 2-3 TDs in the 3rd Qatar it is easy to start thinking "This was a good season". But the longer they game gets and the longer Center can see a way that they can advance, the more "Fun" the cold and wet becomes. So I would say that bad weather will help Center a lot more than hurt them... Unless Gilmer has one of those 1st quarters like against Carthage last year and it is 28-0 after the first qtr. Weather will require both teams to win the mental challenge early, which will define the physical challenges later in the game.
  2. They will be teammates at Texas, so they will have a chance to every day But I do not think anyone on the My point is, I doubt even the Texas staff really knows yet what position Demarco will wind up playing 3 years from now. But they sure know where the Bullard kid will be! Demarco is a great athlete and a legit All American HS Player. But I doubt he will be playing RB, in the slot or on the D-Line at Texas where he is playing now. So he may argue ;-). But he's not "In the right position" yet to say where he will be his best at the next level.
  3. No kidding.. Honestly, I have seen at least 4 versions thus far in 12 games. So we are always wondering the exact same thing and asking ourselves the exact same question! If I were Bowman, I would show my kids the Bullard film, and the Carthage film. Prep for those guys, and then hope the ones from the PG game show up! The bad news for Center is, we had not seen the ones that showed up last week until last week! I sure hope they can repress the other multiple personalities for the next 4 weeks and stick with the ones we have now! Those Buckeyes Mexia saw can repeat as State Champs.
  4. Duely noted... But I think most Gilmer fans know that this deep in the playoffs, there is almost always one or two players on the other team who have superior "Studs" 1-on-1. Daylon Mack comes to mind... And he was 6 inches away from ousting us last year... A year when we DID have a ton of D1 Talent. Bullard's TE is about a legit D1 prospect as there is, and our own ex HC was the guy recruiting him to Texas! We do not have anyone in that kid's league. Carthage had their top 5 players that were bigger, faster and stronger than our Top 5. So we are far more accustomed than you think at facing superior individual athletic talent... Especially this deep in the playoffs. I would argue Bowman had superior individual athletes every year against us at D'Field. But he only had 4 or 5 "Great" ones who all went both ways. We may have had 2-3 of those "Great" guys, but supported by 15 really good ones, who were in turn supported by another 20 good players who were all exceptionally well coached. And I think that will be the case here Friday night. Like anyone else, to beat Gilmer you have to be +3 on the turnovers, possess the ball 2:1, limit Gilmer's touches and hold them to under 30 points. (If memory serves, Gilmer has lost 6 games in 15 years when we score 30+ points.). IMO the team that beats Gilmer will have to do that... and I think it will take a team that is just as fresh in the 4th Qtr as we will be to pull it off. I just don't think Center is deep enough or experienced enough yet to do that IF we play well.
  5. Absolutely we did! And most every team we have had get a ring had one of those games they should have lost, but won. If it makes you feel any better, PG will be the reason we go as far as we do... It was exactly what we needed.
  6. ...and he plays every snap? Both ways?
  7. No offense, but we ended your thread (and your season) about 10 Days ago Dad.
  8. Whoaaaa there Cowboy... No offense but your lack of experience in such matters is showing through there. First of all, some pretty talented kids from East Texas like Daylon Mack, Pat Mahomes II, Adrian Peterson, Kendall Wright, Trent Williams (and the list could continue until Santa comes) would disagree with you. None of those guys are from Gilmer... But they all know about The Buckeyes! And they first thing they all would all tell is "Great Coaching" if you asked them about Gilmer. They will tell you that they first got "Coached" in HS, but nothing like when they got to D1s. Gilmer kids get to D1 schools and have already seen and heard all of that. Sure, we have our share of "Sunday Talents" that come through our hallways, just like most ET High Schools. Your #44 is likely one of those kids. The difference in Gilmer is, our coaches maximize the ability of our kids from the first time they put a helmet on. Not only the kids with a lot of natural ability, but all of them... Which is what your Riders will be figuring out themselves about 36 minutes in Friday night. Gilmer is Gilmer and we send more kids to play on Saturdays not because our coaches play politics! It is because D1 schools know what they are getting when they come to recruit, and they know the kids just keep on coming. Year after year, class after class. A coach comes to look at a "Big Name" but finds himself a starter, captain and contributor to his Program. Braylon Webb spent 3 years as our BACKUP QB, and was a solid player for us. Then he went to MIZZOU and by his SR year, he was a captain and cornerstone of teams that played for multiple SEC Titles. (Thank you Coach Pate!) And that is what you are gonna see late in the game Friday night. Your 1s may be a good matchup with our 1s. But our 2s and 3s are no let-down from our 1s... And your #44 as talented as he may be will have to play harder, for longer, and smarter than he ever has in his life Friday... While the orange and black waves crashing into him will just keep coming wearing a different number each time. That is not smack talk... That is a fact. And if he lived in Gilmer, yes... He would be a star. But I would bet he would be better than what he will be Friday night. NOT because Coach Bowman is not a great coach, but because his talent would be maximized since the 7th grade... And because as a SR, he would have played in almost twice as many games as he did at Center! So he should be better with twice the experience... Or do you disagree? We play 40+ kids every game. But our best players will not play more than 60 snaps or so. We play fast, rotate all the time, and force your best players to play 100 snaps... in other words, your best players will have to play their BESt for the equivalent of 5.2 quarters a game. And their fatigue will become our 12th man. Our best players in the 4th quarter are on play #45 while yours is on play #90. That is what I think you are missing and it is my main point in all this. But if you are inferring that Gilmer sends kids to D1 because they are somehow more visible to D1 Programs, then take that up with AD and K-Dub. Palestine never won a State Title with AD. Pittsburgh never won one with Kendall. They were both 1st Round Picks and All Americans. Neither from Gilmer. That was Black Flag's point. Bowman is trying to build that at Center and will undoubtedly get there. But when your #44 has to make a stop to win you the game Friday, he will likely be chasing a guy who has only played half the snaps he has. He is good. I've seen the film! No doubt, I think he can play on Saturdays. But unless he is triplets and they pass that jersey around every play, he is going to have to be superhuman if Gilmer plays like Gilmer and he wants to play again NEXT Saturday!
  9. Lol... Glad we can have fun at this. It really is therapeutic! That said, I was poking as much fun at my Buckeye kinfolk as anyone else on here... Honest truth is that we Buckeyes rival only those who spent 4-6 years in College Station in terms of how deep our crazy rabbit holes go (no pun or offense meant there to y'all ;-) But as our Coaches and Kids continue to spoil us rotten, we force them to tolerate our collective grumpiness and invent reasons to be dissatisfied with a 28 game winning streak. So on behalf of all of us, we know we Buckeyes are all NUTS! But we will be eternally grateful to Smoaky for providing us a public forum to prove it on a daily basis ;-). Let's just hope we can continue that tradition again into December this year!
  10. Lol... Yes, forgot that Celina's was a name put on the Black Flag last year... But there were a lot on there, so please excuse the omission. I agree on all fronts and have made all of those points multiple times. Just as I have said that anything can happen any night. Especially with two well matched teams, which Friday night should be... a good matchup talent, size and speed wise. But that's my point... When all other things are relatively equal, where should the advantage lie? But logical is a lonely way to be... So I resorted to humor instead and decided to just embrace the madness. Guess I'll just accept it... Center's BEAST of a RB #44 is utterly unstoppable, and although he has no D1 offers, he is a far better player than Gilmer's Texas Commit who will graduate early and be there in 8 weeks getting ready for spring practice. After all, that #5 kid is overrated... He's only the defending Defensive MVP of the State Championship Game... And obviously NO MATCH for how physical Center will be. Because everyone knows that despite a 28 game winning streak, and a W over Carthage this season, Gilmer is lucky to be here and should not have even gotten out of Bi District. Jeff is gone so we now have our 16 happless assistants who have no idea of what to do every day... Heck, They can't even figure out how to get their best players into the game!!! I mean geez... When we think about it, we all know The 2015 Buckeyes have gone 12-0 on reputation alone this year. Who do I think I am questioning Center's superiority??? I just hope we can keep the score respectable enough to save face... Actually we should THANK Center beforehand for mercifully ousting us, as we all know watching our beloved Buckeyes get dirt-rolled by Atlanta the week after that would be too humiliating to even consider. After all, look at what Atlanta did to our poor Buckeyes in 2003. (BTw, since I am so forgetful as to who we have played... Have we faced Atlanta since then?). No matter... I am just all kinds of crazy anyway and just fresh outta "Give-a-Rip" when it comes to applying logic to a thing about HS Football anyway ;-). So Pass the turkey and turn on the Cowboys! Now that Romo is back, I'm sure we'll overcome 3-7 and show that Cam Newton Thursday who is REALLY going to the Super Bowl this year!!!! He is so overrated and the Panthers are a bigger fluke to be undefeated than even our Buckeyes!
  11. H3II, that comment will get you onto the secret mailing list, but only after we are done with your Rabbs next week and start the stealth sneak up on the Celina fans... They are gonna be harder to fool since we left such a bad taste in their mouths back in 2003... But you also have to promise not to blow our cover to your Atlanta brethren when they start drinking the cool-aid. It's been a tough task making you of all people fall for our little con-job... ;-) What is that old saying... doing the same things over and over and expecting a different result is the definition of.... ????? Kinda amazing that it is happening here. For all of those on here who really believe Center should be a favorite... ask yourself.... Would you feel the same way if Center were squaring off this week against... Say, Carthage? All joking aside, I really dig the fact that Center Fans really think from where they were last year really EXPECT to "Handle" Gilmer. It defies logic... But I dig it! Yes, anything can happen on any given night, and Center has talent. (Who doesn't 3 rounds deep)... But back to a bit of logic... Take Center's BEST player. How many Varsity games has he played in? How many weeks of practice has he had during his HS Career? Now... Compare that to Gilmer's BEST player. Kollin Hurt is only a Jr... and this will be his 42nd game. Demarco? Devin? Cambron? Tristen? Almost all of Gilmer's "Difference Makers" are over 40 games and have had an almost 2:1 ratio of any of Center's players in terms of weeks of football practice since the first day in the 9th Grade. So if you think somehow that is not an advantage... Keep thinking it! We'll put you on the mailing list as the weeks progress.
  12. I'm glad someone shows some appreciation of me trying to keep this thread alive. Come on Gilmer fans, this is the biggest test Gilmer has seen all year. LIVEN UP A BIT!!!! Shhh... Didn't you get the message? It was sent out via Buckeye State Championship Secret decoder ring right before the playoffs started. We make it look like we are not Gilmer anymore in the first game, and then let all of these new teams in the Region who have never been here before start thinking they are actually gonna oust the reigning State Champ! Then we blast them so bad that they are too embarrassed and depressed to come back onto these message boards and warn the next week's victim! It is working great... Seen any Mexia folks on here since we saw these same kinds of posts and predictions last week? So don't come on here and blow our cover now! If you need more details on the plan, just Dial into the secret Buckeye Fan Line... 903-DYNASTY if you need to get filled in... There's a recorded message on there so the Buckeyes Army has its marching orders for the week. Password for the message is "BACK2BACK!" Pass it on... Go Bux!
  13. And that my friends on this fine Sunday morning deserves an AMEN! We are all truly blessed to have what we have here in Gilmer and all of ET. It is what we make it! So find a kid, get involved and start making it better!
  14. Apologies if it's above a 3rd grade reading level... But you have Internet access. Google up a dictionary... You may have to put down the Nintendo for a few minutes but it's good for ya. ;-)
  15. Got me thinking about those 83 Tigers now. They would have beaten any HS Team in America, and literally could have punted on 2nd down every game they played and still gone undefeated and unscored on and won the title! Once in a lifetime to get to see a group like that. Still all these years later... And still WoW!!!!
  16. Duely noted and appreciated... But for the record, we have been trying to "Schedule Up" for years. They won't play us. We have played teams from out of state... And some "Big Names" but that only made the problem worse. But I would say we have not shyed away from anyone in our pre-district scheduling. But very honestly, we can say that D'Field has always stepped up, and ain't never been scared to mix it up with us! Trust me when I say, the fact that the fact that Daingerfield is what Daingerfield is has had a lot to do with why Gilmer has been able to build what we have. You were the model! And there will always be MUCH respect there! Greatest HS Defense in History will have generations of East Texans and Buckeyes alike bowing down... (I still get chills thinking about how that much talent can come outta one town!)
  17. The truth hurts 4to3! I still have orange and black bruises from the 80s when guys like Mims, Stutsman and Evans were hanging 60+ on us Buckeyes We were the Little Brother then... So what goes around comes around (eventually). Facts are facts, even when we don't like to be reminded of them!
  18. Ok, if we can drop the 3rd grade stuff for a second, H3IIr4Z0r shared some honest insights and made some great points. Much appreciated sir... And your insight about some "Kids on the site" are correct. Rest assured, most Buckeyes fans are very P.R.I.D.E. ful... Positive, Respectful, Intense, and Disciplined at Every opportunity. At least we try to be ;-) That said... Yes. I would say that Center has come a long way and I think the 2015 version is the best team you have fielded since I have been watching closely the last 15 years or so. But believe it or not, this is a "Rebuilding Year" for Gilmer. I do not say that braggingly (as if we fans had anything to do with it in the first place ;-) but this is not the 2014, 2009, 2006 or 2004 version of the Buckeyes who had the ability to literally play with any high school team in America on any given night. The 2015 Buckeyes are mostly young, with a few kids with "Stellar Talent" (yes, Gilmer stil has some very legit D1, could play on Sunday studs as usual). However unlike years past, that talent is not in a position to touch the ball every play and thus take over a game whenever they choose. As I have said repeatedly, this year's Gilmer team is a really good, very well coached high school team that is figuring itself out each and every week. And as a loyal fan, I have to say they are heading in the right direction and their timing is perfect! Center has some studs! #44 being only one of them. Can Gilmer "Match" him talent wise? Absolutely... DeMarco is a legit HS All American and there are a dozen Buckeyes or so who will play on Saturdays somewhere... but that will not determine the outcome next Friday night. Let's be honest here... Any time you take 15-17 year old kids out to perform in public, you never know what you will get (no matter how well coaches prepare them). They are kids. Talented, excitable, passionate kids... But still kids. So any prediction, no matter how logical, is still subject to that fact. We should all remember that when we get passionate and emotional on a website. That being said, let's apply some logic. Any good high school coach who has been 3+ rounds deep in the playoffs will tell you that kids who have "Been There" have an advantage over kids who have not. I honestly do not think Center has the man-for-man talent that Gilmer does this year... But it is "Close" and I agree there is a good matchup. I am about 90% sure Center does not have the depth Gilmer does with the quality of their 2-3s Gilmer has... But how could they? People do not realize that being a "Good Program" is a self-fulfilling prophecy. The fact that each and every year a HS Program makes deep playoff runs means that each and every year the entire team gets 2,3,4,5 weeks more of practice than other programs who are in the gym by then. Gilmer played 16 games last year! That is several more than Center... So Gilmer has several weeks more "Experience" in practice, game snaps on a "Big Stage", etc than Center. There is also the "Mental Fatigue" factor... Just as an example, in 2003 as Gilmer was coming onto the scene as a "State Power" (kind of reminds me of the 2015 Center Team now that I have seen them) we had a huge game against daunted and celebrated Celina in this very round of the playoffs. Celina had had all the State Titles, etc... Gilmer came out and played them like it was the Super Bowl, and won! Yes, Celina was in a "Rebuilding Year" that year too... But our kids got so hyped and played so well against them, that the natural and inevitable "Let Down" that came the next week against Atlanta got us ousted. We were mentally tired! And our kids were honestly "OK" with having gotten that far and beaten Celina the previous week. But the Jrs on that team? They learned that "Winning it all" is a long process. 16 games. Survive and advance. Their expectation the next year got us our first State Title, and the "Program" you see now in Gilmer was born. Did you ever notice that each year about this time, you look at the Playoff Bracket and see the same teams year in and year out? It's no accident folks...Gilmer, Celina, Sweetwater, Navasota, WOS, Silsby, Cuero... All great programs. And programs are built and maintained. Gilmer is and has been a great program for over a decade. Center is not there yet. And Beating Gilmer (as PG and Mexia discovered) is more than beating the 2015 Roster. You have to beat the experience, expectation and coaching "Know How" of the entire program. This (and a lot of talented kids) is why Gilmer is such a "Tough Out". Coach Bowman built that at Daingerfield. He knows what that takes. But he also had a heck of a history to build on when he got to there. No knock on him at all. He is a great coach trying to climb the mountain and build that at Center. But he also got his tail handed to him year in and year out by Gilmer... And there is no shame in that. Gilmer is a lot bigger than Daingerfield... So "Big Brother" took a talented "Little Brother" out back and reminded him who was who every year. But Bowman used that to get himself 3 straight rings... So the guy knows the "Formula" for beating Gilmer. Knowing the formula is one thing. Going and doing it in the field with kids who have never done it is another. And honestly speaking, this year is probably the best chance he has ever had to get one over in "Big Brother"... He matches up well physically, and Center has a good defense. Sure there are some ??? In his secondary, but he is not staring across the line at a future NFL Gilmer QB like 2006 or 2009. Zac is going to have to continue improving, make good decisions and take care of the football for Gilmer to advance. But this is the 3rd round... From here on in, no matter who you face you are going to have to play well to win! For the 2015 Buckeyes, it is time to step up and be the daunted "Gilmer Buckeyes"! If they don't play up to their potential and use the tools and advantages the Program has afforded them, they will go home. Simple as that... Welcome to Gilmer. We expect (and our KIDS expect) to continually raise the bar and win Championships. That is the hallmark and legacy of a great Coaching Staff building a Great Program. We are very fortunate and grateful to have that in Gilmer. And this 2015 bunch has that legacy working for them. Gilmer KNOWS HOW TO WIN, even when they play like normal high school kids. And that is the hallmark of a Championship Team! I could break down the entire game and "Logic" you through why I think Gilmer will beat Center in a fairly close game. And yes (as we saw last week) Gilmer will have to be Gilmer to win. No more "woops", turning the ball over, missed tackles, dropped passes or excuses. This is a time for CHAMPIONS to advance, and everyone else can head to the gym. It's that simple. And Friday Night, that is exactly what will happen... That is the contest. Is Center ready to come and take the ring off the finger of the Champs? And how hard are the Champs gonna make that task for anyone (staring with Center)? That's what I mean when I say to BE the Champ, you have to BEAT the Champ. Center is plenty capable I believe. Every good team (and Center is certainly that) can put 48 minutes together and approach "Perfection" to play their absolute best on any given night. Center will need that kind of night Friday to knock off Gilmer. But if Gilmer does what they did last week and plays up to their potential, good luck taking that ring! And that goes for every other team left standing... Not to be shocking, and I'm not trying to predict or brag that it will happen... But the 2015 Buckeye Team is capable of doing what no other Buckeye team has done... Win BACK2BACK titles. To do it, they are gonna have to put a magical run of 16 straight quarters together. They will have to be good all the way, great when it counts in critical downs, and lucky in between... Just like every team that wins a State Title. No offense to Center or anybody else, but if what I hope I saw last week was the "Championship Pedigree" coming out in these young Buckeyes, then the next 4 weeks are gonna be another great ride! And these 2015 Buckeyes will have raised the bar even higher for all those future Buckeyes. They have a chance to go down as the BEST TEAM in Gilmer History. That's a mouthful! But it is a decision the 2015 Gilmer Buckeyes will make for themselves. Center will have to beat that legacy on Friday... and that can be a tall order. If they do? Congrats and go get a ring. It will be the best $7 I ever spent watching it ;-) Good luck, good health and safe travels to all, and GO BUCKEYES!!!!!
  19. Uh... No, they didn't. PG scored 36 points, but check the stats before you started pinning that on the Black Flag.
  20. Not sure they have any Hungarians on their roster... But even if they did I'm not sure it would help?
  21. This game will be the same caliber of game as the 2014 Gilmer/Gladewater game........I think Center has the athletes and the scheme that is built to beat this Gilmer team. It will be a close one and a good one for Black Friday! I agree... But as good as Center's #44 is, he's no Daylon Mack ;-)
