  1. That seemed to happen a good deal in this game...RB would either go move forward or at an angle a bit prior to the snap.
  2. I think you're correct about the shortage of officials and thereby the number of experienced ones. I recall a game this year when a young man who was either the FJ or SJ ( a 7 man crew that game) looked totally nervous during the game. I had a feeling this might be his first year as an official and was hoping nothing would happen in his area of responsibility. I really felt kind of sorry for the young man, but give him kudos for being out there. I know the pay isn't as good as it could be like the low end is $115 a game. A volleyball official for a varsity game gets $90 and hardly has to move.
  3. Thanks...the first call was a really close one I agree. It did switch the momentum somewhat. Overton had just scored two TDs to take the lead in the 3rd quarter. Of course, no guarantee they would have scored if the call had gone their way, but Tenaha did score on the short field to retake the lead. I agree with your assessment of the second call, should have been a no call. Overton was behind 20 at this point of the 4th quarter with just less than four minutes or so to play (Tenaha had just scored after almost an hour delay with the player who was hurt). I reiterate I don't blame officials for any win or loss. It's a tough job. A team has to overcome any calls that don't go their way that are questionable to either team. And the pay could be better.
  4. Are you certain about that???? Once it travels beyond the 10 yards, the ball is free game -- up for members of either the kicking or receiving team to recover it. Doesn't state anything about having to hit the ground.
  5. Like any normal fan, I get miffed on some referee calls. I think we all do from time to time. I understand it can be a thankless job and they do volunteer for not so great pay. I also hold to the idea that a team doesn't win or lose because of the officiating. Teams have to overcome calls that do not go their way. Hopefully, many of you agree. But I do want to share this video clip of two calls and get some opinions. They were taken by a fan for making a highlight video. I had him pull these two plays and slow it down. The first one was an onside kick. The ref ruled it did not go ten yards before being touched by the Overton player. To me, it appears it crossed the 50 in the air when he caught it and then fell back behind the 50. Thoughts? The second was a pass interference call against the Overton receiver. I see his right hand go up and maybe he touched the defender's back. Thought? Again, I want to emphasize I'm not getting down on the refs, just want to see what my Smoaky people think. Thanks Tenaha plays Slow Motion.mp4
  6. The latest update I saw from his mother is that he is still having some severe pain and doesn't appear he'll to play on Thursday. They have an appointment with a sports injury specialist for a second opinion. Still can use your prayers his mother said to get relief from the pain he is experiencing. Thanks to all.
  7. Yes...of course you have to purchase online.
  8. The Mustangs will get it done this week and will get its first ten win season since 1995.
  9. Overton vs Evadale will be played Thursday, November 9th @ 7:00 pm in San Augustine.
  10. Just saw a Facebook post...Blaise is walking out of the hospital!!
  11. Overton senior Blaise Horne was injured late in the fourth quarter. He was airflighted to Tyler. I understand that a CT scan was performed nothing was found wrong and an MRI was the next test to be run. All prayers will be appreciated for him and his family. This graphic below was created by Overtonite Kristi Zalman of a photo taken by me.
  12. In football, the breaks have to go your way and they didn't for the Mustangs tonight. Overton goes nine games with no serious injuries, but tonight lost a two way starter early in the second quarter, starting ILB in the first half, and most seriously starting RB who had to be air flighted to the hospital. Overton got themselves in a hole going down 20-0 but did get a late TD in the second quarter to go in the dressing room down 20-7. Made a great turnaround and went up 21-20 in the 3rd. But bad breaks and untimely penalties killed drives in the 4th quarter. Tenaha ran well against Overton, kudos to them. Tenaha got a late TD after the very long delay getting the injured Overton player off the field and air flighted. Mustangs were obviously down after that. But I will say I don't believe Tenaha is 20 points better than Overton, they were just tonight.
  13. If I wasn't going to be at the Overton vs Tenaha game tonight I'd be at Timpson shooting that one...but I'm pretty sure a photographer for Dave Campbell's Texas Football is going to be there. These photos from 2020
  14. My wireless keyboard needed new batteries...it was missing keystrokes...it's corrected...
  15. About to enter the final year of my 60's decade...not sure how much longer I can't keep going here,
  16. I think Carlisle wins...but it would be nice to see Alto get rid of that Zero in the win column. Hate for any team to go thorugh an 0-10 season.
  17. I can agree with that...past successes are not an indicator of future successes. I believe they are just reviewing the past games in a nostalgic sense. I would assume Tenaha fans like to recall all those state appearances and title wins. This Friday is what counts in 2023. Overton isn't playing those Tenaha state title teams and Tenaha isn't playing those Overton teams from the 80's. But again, all fans like to reminisce.

Stats such as individual tackles and such are listed but to this observer, Tenaha seems to have misreported solo tackles. They report zero assisted tackles. Overton on the other hand appears to report them as defined by MaxPreps: The total number of solo tackles. If a ball carrier is stopped solely or primarily because of the efforts of one player, that player should be credited with a solo or unassisted tackle. No more than one solo tackle can be credited on any one play. Tackles for losses and pass sacks should result in a player getting credit for that action and a solo tackle. The total number of assisted tackles. If two defensive players contribute equally to the stopping of a ball carrier, credit both players with an assisted tackle, but give neither a solo tackle. NOTE: In a situation where there is not a solo tackle, there should not be more than two assists credited except in rare instances. In other words, on any given play one of the following may be credited: (1) one solo tackle, or (2) two assisted tackles. Only in the rarest of cases would more than two assisted tackles be credited. For comparison: Tenaha vs Mt Enterprise - Tenaha reported a total of 122 solo tackles (zero assists). Mt. Enterprise had a total of 67 rushes, 6 kickoff returns, and 1 interception return for a grand total of 74 tackle opportunities for Tenaha. Overton vs Mt. Enterprise - Overton reported 57 solo tackles and 42 assists. Mt Enterprise had a total of 53 rushes, 1 pass completion, 3 kickoff returns (some were fair caught or not returned), and no punt returns were reported. For a total of 58 tackle opportunities for Overton. It seems Overton accurately reports tackles as defined by MaxPreps, but not Tenaha.
