  1. Rhoades was THE head coach, no doubt. But the thing that keeps that team in the list of winningest programs statewide is the staff of assistant coaches who are former players who come back to make sure the tradition is defended and upheld. Unlike outsiders, those young men are dedicated to assuring that their legacies are lived up to.
  2. Yeah, he did - 4 or 5A, as a matter of fact, if I recall correctly...
  3. I'm gonna go ahead and say this: A - Bringing in an outside coach doesn't necessarily mean they'd have to bring in their own staff. Anyone trying to speak intelligently on this topic is overlooking Rhoades' program itself. B - There are rumors all over this subject, and one of them, indeed, is that at least one prominent and locally-loved assistant is leaving with Rhoades. C - Honestly, if I was an "in-house" candidate, I would be very wary of my potential promotion being more based on me being more susceptible to agendas and "politics" than would an outside hire. Jus' sayin'...
  4. Hear they named Brashear interim.?
  5. Well, let's see what we hear this week...
  6. He just had a follow-up surgery to clear out the knee. He has a long, hard rehab ahead, but what I've heard is Blinn and UMHB are only schools right now with interest...
  7. Just to clarify - Please note that I put the word "down" in quotations, implying that it is only down in size of city and in classification. I am going to go ahead and say that this has the potential to be a tricky situation for a "homegrown" candidate...

  9. Yeah, it doesn't matter how big/nice the stadium is if there isn't spirited play on the field and a loud crowd filling the stands.Yoe Field, Cameron, TX
  10. To make this kind of non district schedule this coach knows something about his team already Well, we'll see about Navasota and Caldwell...
  11. DCTF named 3A Div 1 District 10 toughest in the state. http://m.rockdalereporter.com/news/2016-02-04/Sports/Franklin_Jarrell_McGregor_join_103A.html#.VuSPnXrnbfo
  12. It can be, especially when it comes to community support of interscholastic competition...
  13. But he didn't just "screw" the Navasota schoolboard with this move. Navasota FANS are the ones who came out and raised hell immediately to force the board to re-vote. That's why I don't think this was just "Fedora giving NISD the bird" or "Anywhere but here" because they did him wrong. He coulda told the fans, "Thanks for your support, but if I can't get more respect than that, I'm just gonna take my show elsewhere", and not even went through the trouble of a second vote and going through with signing the extension.

  15. And a lot of Yoe fans are wide awake on the internet this Wednesday morning...
  16. I gotta say, I'd be surprised to learn Fedora walked out on a days-old contract extension at his own proven program for a move that is technically "down." But, stranger things have happened. Here's the thing to remember about Yoe: I got good money says a quarter of Yoe Nation - especially those with country club memberships - has been blowing up the phones of their schoolboard member-of-choice in support of one of the "home"boys already "in the system". Brashear, Magre, or even Bay City coach Flores. IF CISD decides to go with an outside candidate, that same Yoe Nation is gonna essentially "demand" that he keep those "home"boys on staff, and that might be a sticking point.
  17. Either one would be welcome. Lord knows we have a hell of a community support system here to attract coaches...
  18. I'd be surprised to learn Fedora is actually going after the Yoe job. Seems he'd only walk out on a days-old contract renewal at his proven program to move "up." But, stranger things have happened...
  19. So what happened/is happening with the Coach Goforth situation?
  20. G-P was picked by DCTF to finish fourth in a district not known for its postseason achievements. Not sure how that actually played out, but I do know G-P lost in the first round to a team that bowed out the next week. Good luck, Coach. Gonna be interesting to see how this coach search goes. Already a lil' social media push for a couple homegrown inside candidates, and for a former Yoe assistant/now head coach whose team is on Yoe's schedule this season...
  21. Ehhh... Still, anybody who says Daingerfield "whipped" Yoe's tails can tell it to the mirror, but the rest of us know the truth - That game coulda gone either way. Gotta give those "lil' ol' Yoemen" credit - Gave all those big, fast Div 1 players one hell of a night. And to try to say Daingerfield was better than Yoe just cause they left with the trophy is like sayin Montana was better than Marino because of a few rings. By the way - I kept hearin/readin different sports reporters here & there mention this theory that Daingerfield's '83 team could be the best in Tejas HS football history. But in 1921 Waco High scored 567 points in nine games, while giving up ZERO. Do the math - That's an average win of 63-0. Yeah, it was in '21, but you play who you got to play against. And in the early '20s, Waco scored 100 points more than twice. Just sayin'...
  22. It's all subjective. The only "fact" about that game is this: ANYbody who says Daingerfield "whooped" Yoe's tails, or that they "proved" they're the "better" team, is lyin' through their teeth. In the end, that game coulda gone either way. Period. Sayin' one of those teams is so much better than the other because of a trophy is like sayin' Montana was better than Marino because of the rings. I do have ONE point about this "Daingerfield's '83 team may have been the best in the history of Texas HS football" discussion: How can ANYBODY claim there was ever a better Texas high school football team than the 1921 Waco High Lions, who scored 567 points while allowing ZERO - in only NINE games? (That's right - an average score of 63-0). Yeah, that was 1921. But in this type of discussion, you have to factor in that kind of variable - Teams and athletes of any era have to achieve what they accomplish against their peers.
