    Wow!

To be fair, it was supposed to open years earlier than it did so it would have "lasted longer" as it would have had more space to fill but by the time it opened it was ahead of enrollment projections.

i take back the freshman center I thought that was on there  but it was part of the recommendations for a 10-year long rage facilities plan but didn't make it as part of the bond package. But they are adding on to the High School, which is supposed to be finished for the start of the 2025-26 school year

I can’t believe Denison hasn’t had an increase recently, all those homes in Gateway Village, then you look at all the homes being built in their district but outside the city limits.   I’m not disputing you, it’s just crazy to think their numbers haven’t gone up since every other district in the county seems to be having numbers increase.

If there is growth, it's at the lower levels which takes time to show up 9-12.

Denison went from 1,312 in 2017 to 1,348 in 2019 to 1,327 in 2021 for this last realignment.

Did they build it big enough to house a large 5A enrollment?

Also did Sherman build their new one to house 6A enrollment?

Sherman did not build their new one big enough, they are already going to add on as well as add a freshman center

Denison built that humongous high school and can’t even stay in their same classification??? Terrible.

Denison had to get out of the old building -- it was time. They are dropping in classification because they have had a consistent enrollment since it opened and the cutoff number keeps going up because of growth in other pockets around the state, ie when it opened there were 7 Friscos, now there's 12. Melissa had 1,000 fewer kids, Argyle was half the size it was now.

Wow!!! So basically it boils down to:

    1. PP not offering him a multi-year deal until he threatened to quit (if you believe the admin)

    2. Admin. refusing to hire who the AD wanted to hire.

    3. AD wanting to have control over all the athletic departments and admin. refusing to go along with it.

    4. Admin. telling the AD who to hire for the head girls track coach because she was popular with the parents (and I am betting that's who admin. wanted to make the girls AD in the first place)...but that's just me reading between the lines and knowing how admins think!!!

I would say that there are probably more problems that aren't specifically mentioned in this official letter!!! And I would bet most of the flack is coming from the girls side parents who want their choice to be the girls AD...and again...that's just reading between the lines and many years of experience speaking!!

Track coach is male, not female

Which side of Sherman is growing the most??

Is Denison having the same growth spurt by chance?

No on Denison, they will be dropping to 4A if the cutoff moves up like it did this last time

Where will the new stadium be built?

It will be on the campus of the new high school.

They have a turf field and track next to their field house already, they will just build it up around that.

Sherman is growing like crazy.  Possibility of even going 6A next realignment.  That would not end well. They wouldn’t even win district in most area AAA or AAAA in many sports.

They will be going 6A unless there's a crazy jump in the cutoff -- as of last week they were projected to have 2,322 entering the school year

Any idea who is in on it? Or what area these guys may be from??

I do know most of the initial interviews, not going to reveal. Will say the profile for the opening leans towards prior head coaching experience and the younger side. If you drew a line across the state, it's going to come from the top half.

Being told now the hire won't be Monday that they have decided to conduct a 2nd round of interviews this week with 2-3 finalists

I was waiting to hold this until tomorrow because of TV but yes, nothing at the Monday board meeting. There is a chance they'll make an announcement later in the week but we could be going day by day at this point

“Give them bread and circuses and they will never revolt.”

They gave themselves the bread and circus.....Melissa didn't just say we're building this stadium whether you like it or not. If you don't like it, vote against it. And if the majority don't want it, it won't be built. And if you don't vote, which it seems like A LOT of people in a lot of places don't exercise that right, then you don't get to complain about it.

Its almost like money grows on trees.  😳

It's almost like the tax base continues to grow -- they had 346 kids just at the high school alone in a two-year span and when Snapshot Day comes in the fall, I bet the increase is bigger than that. You add 700 high school kids alone in a four-span there is significant growth in that area.

I think Whitewright is struggling from the same issues that a lot of smaller towns in ETX are struggling from. Migration to bigger cities from the younger population. My father coached at WW in the early 2000s when they were making deep runs under Coach Stringer. Over the last few years I’ve seen the slow decline in the talent pool at WW. No longer are the same families that once lived there for generations living there anymore. Lots of kids have migrated to Denison/Sherman etc. For example, one of the top DEs in Oklahoma at Durant HS. His mother is a WW grad and she moved him to Sherman before ultimately landing in Durant. Many more cases of kids like that.

He was actually at Denison for two years, then went to Sherman and when he couldn't get eligible, went up to Durant

Passing a bond under this presidency with these interest rates would be the dumbest thing with the worst timing a school district could possibly do.  You could go with "things aren't getting cheaper" but the reality is sitting on the horizon.  School vouchers are being heavily pushed by conservative political groups nationwide.  If it happens in Texas, with these type of bills to pay, these schools will go bankrupt or they will be begging the state for massive bailouts.

I want nice things at my school, but I also want it to be reasonable and responsible.  I will be voting NO on Aledo's 2nd or 3rd bond in 4 years.  Why would I do that when I have 5 kids in the district?  Well, because I don't feel like the money will be spent towards better serving the educational needs of the students.  I believe the city needs to be taught a lesson.  Growth is good, but when you can't meet the needs of the growth you are allowing, then you are failing everyone by trying to force bonds through to play catch up.  It is reckless spending.  We see enough of it in DC.  I don't want it where I live.

If you choose to wait to hold a bond, the price is going to go up regardless.

A bond voted on in May 2023 that is $20 million dollars, if you had the exact same projects in a bond in Mat 2028, the cost will be $28 million or whatever. It never goes the other way.

No one has a bond that is $25 million and if they wait five years goes down to $18 million.

I'm told some of the candidates

    HC from Oklahoma

    3 DFW Assistants

    Former HC in Permian Basin

    East Texas OC

    Central TX DC

    Former HC in Victoria area

    Internal candidate

Love the internal candidate candidate in situations like these. We want to go "in another direction" from the current guy in charge, you know, the one who hired this guy for his staff and been a part of what has transpired recently, so we'll totally considering hiring that guy to replace him.

Jason, can a guy win there like lipsey or is the talent way way off. If so why didn’t they keep Wiggins

School board wants to go with someone else over superintendent's recommendation. They've been making the playoffs -- three of four years, didn't make it 2020 because of COVID, they had to forfeit their last game that if they won would have made it 4 of 4. The biggest thing has been lack of continuity. Since Lipsey left, the head coach totals have gone:

    1 year

    2 years

    2 years

    2 years

    2 years

    2 years

    4 years (Wiggins)

And in their history, Lipsey is the only guy to get to a fifth season since Charlie Seesom's first stint from 1970-76.

The new coach will be the 20th stint -- two guys came back -- in 46 seasons

Correct me if I am wrong but isn’t WW known as a baseball school? If so then, nuff said.

I wouldn't say they are specifically known for a single sport. They have pockets of success for a couple years in certain sports but there isn't one that is their main sport.

@JasonDellaRosa Looking forward to the matchup. Any insight you can provide? Read your article from last nights game.

Gunter is a young bunch -- just one senior and they only roll with eight, so foul trouble on the right/wrong people can be an issue. They've got two girls that are pretty good on threes and they have good length. Maybe a year ahead of schedule based on the freshmen and sophs.

They are just really solid, which you expect at this point. There's not one glaring weakness in the games I've done. Obviously they'll be underdogs going against defending region champs.

Seeing no Carthage front 7 players and not seeing Rohan Fluellan of Gilmer on there at all tells this all state team is a joke.  Must have been some guys on break at the Bluebell factory who came up with it.

Deiontae Merry is on the second team for Carthage and Fluellan is third-team all-state at the all-purpose spot

How does that explain why they failed to nominate any players from two of the state championship teams in 5A and 6A?

I’ve come to the conclusion that all these all state teams are nothing but propaganda for certain programs who play the politics correctly.  The Padilla poll and this superelite team just prove it.  Hopefully the Texas sportswriters doesn’t show the same favoritism.

If their coaches aren't members, then they aren't eligible. And if the coaches are members, then they didn't nominate them to the THSCA.

It's the same thing for girls sports with the Texas Girls Coaches Association all-state teams or basketball with the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Some coaches aren't members and therefore their teams aren't eligbile.

  21. 5 hours ago, CrankyOldMan said:

Not a single South Oak Cliff player on the 5A team and not a single Duncanville player on the 6A team.  What a absolute sham!  They must have gotten consulting from Padilla or they hate Dallas County teams.  Also “SuperElite” what a stupid name.   Why not one or the other?

This is why: The THSCA Super Elite Teams consists of high school players nominated by current professional members of the Texas High School Coaches Association.
