  1. They finally got out of executive session. As above it is Steve Fex, recently DC at McKinney Boyd, at Colleyville Heritage, Southlake Carroll, Coppell and Dripping Springs before that among others. His college stints include as a student assistant at Western Oregon, a GA at Washington and an assistant at Southern Utah. This is his first time as a head coach in Texas, was a head coach in Oregon in the late 80s.
  2. That was one of the two. It was 17-3 but it got to 17-10 at half and was 17-13 after the opening drive of the second half. The other was 2018 vs Canadian, only because it was such a low-scoring game between two great defenses that it was close enough that one drive here or there made the difference.
  3. I will say this about Gunter at this deep point in the playoffs -- you can almost always tell before the end of the first quarter how the game is going to go. They have played nine semifinal or title games and in seven of them it was pretty obvious what the outcome would be -- win or lose. If you have a question of how their defense or offense will do against a certain opponent, it doesn't take more than three or four drives to see how things play out. History doesn't mean anything of course -- but it is an interesting trend -- and I do think these are the two best teams left standing.
  4. Is like 95 percent certain to be 5A Only reason there is a slight chance that they might stay 4A is the number went up from 1150 to 1230 last time -- if it jumps the same number this time Melissa misses by seven kids and goes five but if it goes up by 90 kids, 10 more than last time, Melissa stays down 4A by three.
  5. Only question is how limited Kutter Wilson is -- he didn't look to be hurt that bad after the tackle but didn't play the final three quarters. At a certain point it could have been precaution to keep him out because of the score but that could lead to depth issues / guys having to do more than they normally do going forward
  6. I mean, where did you think a game would be against a Lubbock opponent? There were literally three options, maybe five if you were generous, and they had a flip between the two of three.
  7. It's unpopular because it's antiquated. A third of the teams in the state quarterfinals (27 of the 80 remaining) did not win district
  8. They had two drives in the first half that took more than 13 minutes with both getting inside the Gunter 10-yard line and came away with no points. Gunter had four possessions in the first half because of the kickoff return TD and one of them was right before the half when they forced the turnover on downs inside their 10. So they only had three real drives and scored on two.
  9. The Sherman ISD confirmed that number of 2,185, so they stay in 5A Division I for at least another cycle. They added 233 kids from last time and continued growth is expected, so 2024 should see them in 6A.

  11. Gunter turned in 354, so as long as the 3A divisional cutoff goes up by five or more, they stay down for two more years

  13. That would be a gain of 96 kids for Brock.
  14. Collinsville is definitely going to D-II, they'd have to lower the cutoff by 10 to stay in D-!. Whitewright would slide right into that district should the cutoff go up to 240 The number between 2A-3A has only gone up by 4 and 5 the last two cycles, so 235 would be the historical cutoff point. The question based on other schools could/would move Trenton to an eastern district if WW was down, and then someone would still need to fill a void in 5-2A (I)
  15. And another day this week it was apparently 355. As with Sherman, it sounds like the official number they submit will be available Monday, so we'll see exactly where it ends up landing
  16. I haven't been able to get an official number through the ISD. I am hoping to hear back on Monday.
  17. I'm trying to get Sherman's might not be until Monday -- the talk is it will be 22XX. Waiting to see those last two numbers
  18. Longview has clinched a playoff spot -- the worst it can do is 3-3, and if that happens, regardless of Tyler-Sherman outcome, that means Tyler gets a fourth win, which means Lobos have head-to-head tie-breaker against Sherman even if Sherman won out
  19. Unfortunately, most people like to say they clinched playoffs because there are outcomes that are extremely unlikely to happen, and in the end it is only a matter of the game taking place before it will in fact happen but it is a fact that if North beats Longview and Sherman beats Tyler this week, and then Longview beats Tyler and Sherman beats West Mesquite, Sherman would go as the fourth seed with head-to-head against Tyler. That one scenario alone means Tyler has not clinched. It may be possible that if they all zero out it is already known via the next step in the tiebreaker who would advance -- although I can't believe that would be the case without all the results not known -- so he is assuming, again assuming, that North loses to Longview and then no matter what Tyler gets in on the three-way tie should it happen.
  20. Sherman's landing spot is going to come down to the cutoff number. I think they could end up on either side of the line, depending on where it gets drawn.
  21. So they've had a net add of five kids since school started. If the number goes up like it has every time, they will stay under by about 10 or so. It will be a sweat in the sense that it is close enough it is possible the number didn't change or only went up a handful. The belief it will go to 365ish because: 2020 it was 350 2018 it was 335 2016 it was 319 The move from 2014 to 2016 was only four kids (315-319)
  22. Gunter is expecting its number to be 350. As long as the cutoff goes up they will stay down for another cycle. They will be going Division I the next time unless the cutoff makes a huge jump by 2024
  23. Pottsboro and Mount Vernon clinch playoff spots with wins Howe is all but eliminated with a loss -- it would take about a dozen combinations to keep them in the hunt. The Rains-Commerce loser will be on life support The odds are pretty good going into the last week the four playoff spots are clinched and seeding is wrapped up.
  24. It will be longer than that -- Celina's growth has slowed more than I thought it would. Prosper has really siphoned off a lot of growth that I think was expected to head this way. Gunter just crossed 2,000 population and the latest census had them averaging 50 people per year. There would have to be a major leap to get there by 2030. It's possible because Celina added 10,000 and Prosper added 20,500 but I'd be stunned if there was a big push coming just based on the numbers. If I'd guess, I would put it around 2035, only because I'd want to see to the next census growth in the area. to see how much it continues to trend.
  25. As long as the number goes up like it has Gunter is going to stay D2. If it stays close to the same or or whatever reason goes down, Gunter will be D1
