  1. If a receiver is pushed out of bounds, and immediately returns in bounds he is a legal receiver. If he went voluntarily he is an illegal receiver. A dead ball personal foul after a TD can be enforced on the try or the kickoff, if the foul was after the TD but before the ready for play on the try. Coaches decision.

  3. Received this today. Another first down! This morning we were back in court as the judge ruled on motions presented by the uil. The first motion was to quash next week’s scheduled dispositions of Charles Breithaupt and Tony Timmons. The second was to dismiss due to lack of jurisdiction. The court room was crowded with attorneys from the uil, UT Austin and the AG office. Our attorney states it was a heavily contested hearing. We have now learned that the judge has RULED AGAINST THE uil’s motions!! Both of their motions were denied. What does this mean? Depositions will go forward next week as scheduled and the TRO will remain in effect until the Feb 1st hearing. Probably more important is that their technical arguments that TASO lacks standing to bring these claims can no longer be used as an argument. The uil had also objected to responding to our written discovery requests which were due today. That was denied also. Since their response was due today and not received it’s possible that sanctions may be levied against the uil. Like I said earlier, we have not scored a touchdown but TASO did make another first down. Now, as you all know drives can stall but for today we have a 1st and ten. Ray Parker TASO Football President
  4. You’re missing the point about not calling sub-varsity for a coach. It has nothing to do with money, but has to do with commitment. The chapter is committing to a school to do sub-varsity and the coach, in return, should be committed to using that chapter for most his varsity games. Also, a chapter should refuse to work sub-varsity, during the next season, for a coaches that use neutral chapters for playoff games, when both schools use the same chapter all season for their sub-varsity games. You’ll have a hard time convincing me that these coaches can’t agree on a crew.
  5. There are issues on both sides, but I would like to see football separate from other sports. We use NCAA rules, and other sports use Fed rules. The one thing that TASO needs to do, is get away from the "business as usual" attitude. TASO has many problems and needs to be fixed. I've seen no plan from either side that has swung my vote either way. But, I don't want the Friday night lights to dim because of me. I've talked to different chapter members from across the state, and 70-80 percent really don't care either way. They just want to call the games.

  7. SFA will play at home, if they beat Eastern Washington and South Dakota beats Montana. If Montana wins, they will play there. Montana & South Dakota kickoff at 1:05 our time, so they will know early.
  8. Wonder where they came up with our e-mail address? On-line COPE training is my thought.
  9. Mr Timmons stated in one of his meetings, that he would NOT assign officials for all payoff games, only state championships/tournaments. I guess we'll see.
  10. Looks like a done deal. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/hso/6686733.html UIL passes measure requiring officials to register with agency By SAM KHAN JR. Copyright 2009 Houston Chronicle Oct. 26, 2009, 1:10PM AUSTIN — The University Interscholastic League will soon govern the officials that call its varsity games. The UIL legislative council approved an amendment to require all officials that work its varsity team sports contests to register with the league, one of several items ruled on at its biannual legislative council meetings on Monday at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center. The UIL's standing committee on athletics unanimously approved the motion Sunday before the legislative council passed it Monday. All items approved by the legislative council must go before the state education commissioner for final approval. Previously, section 1204 of the UIL's Constitution and Contest Rules stated that, unless otherwise mutually agreed, schools were to use officials registered with the Texas Association of Sports Officials, known as TASO, for varsity team sports contests. TASO has been a part of the UIL constitution for 33 years. The UIL also approved a fee increase for officials in all sports. Both measures will go into effect in the summer of 2010. The council also approved several other measures, including extending pre-determined sites for state football championship games to all classifications. Currently, only Class 5A has its Division I and Division II championship games played at a predetermined site (this season it is at San Antonio's Alamodome), but starting in the 2010 football season, the UIL will select the sites for each championship football game from Class 4A all the way down to Class 1A and six-man. In track and field, the UIL increased the number of competitors in each state championship event to nine. Previously, there were eight participants in each event at the state track and field meet in each classification: the top two finishers from each of the four regional meets. The ninth competitor will be selected by the best time or mark that wasn't in the top two in one of the four regions. In football, the council approved a proposal to allow incoming seventh and eighth grade football players to be a part of its high school's summer strength and conditioning program. Currently, those programs are limited to students in grades 9-12. Football coaches will also now be afforded some flexibility on when to hold their summer strength and conditioning programs. Currently, those must end in mid-July. Effective immediately, coaches will be able to designate a start and end date of their own, not to exceed six weeks, for their strength and conditioning program. On Sunday, the results of a referendum ballot on split-conference alignment for Class 2A schools was also unveiled. The 2A schools voted 121-75 in favor of a split-conference alignment for football, which would separate 2A into Division I and Division II based on enrollment prior to the season, rather than after the regular season. That setup is used in Class 1A six-man and 11-man football. Class 2A will begin its split-conference alignment, which places 16 districts in Division I and 16 districts in Division II prior to the regular season, in time for the 2010 football season.
