  1. Stay classy, GB. At least you are consistent. Just remember, you reap what you sow. Of course....you know that. Don't you????
  2. My thoughts on how someone behaves on here are actually irrelevant. Especially if they stay within the rules set by SDC. I will just continue my normal way of business. I'm a Mav fan, but I'm also a football fan. I dont get my jollies in running down other programs. There are things I detest about the Lobo program, but I can also say I've seen them play more than anyone other than Marshall because I always enjoy seeing them (Vs. Lufkin, Vs. Evangel, West Monroe, and more playoff games than I can count). Pshhh...I've seen Kilgore, Nacogdoches, Texas High, and Hallsville playoff games too. And they are all rivials of ours. Just not sure what else I can do or say. I picked Marshall to lose to Longview, JT, and WH this season. Almost picked us to lose to Neville. That's me picking against my own team in almost half their games this season. So I have no idea where the idea that I think Marshall reinvented football came from. Our history speaks for itself. But you dont see Mav fans on here beating their chest screaming BUT WE'RE MARSHAL!!!! Actually no, I've seen a lot of frustration. And this is a team still headed to the playoffs. Bandwagon? Hardly. This is the long-haul. Win or lose. I may pick us to beat Pine Tree.....but you wont see me badmouth them or sucker punch them. Not my style. And if they beat us....I'll congratulate them and move on. I wont dance on their grave and wish them to get drove next time they take the field. I'm ready for some playoff talk.
  3. Where do you see me claim that Marshall is one of the best?? I've been harder on Marshall than any program. I've been much more critical than beating my chest. I've congratulated every team that has beat us this season. Three of them were clearly better than us. One of them was evenly matched IMHO. Not sure what else I can do short of having a parade for them. I haven't dogged WH in any thread. Not one. But can we say the same about you concerning jax or Kilgore or Marshall? No. And it wasn't just you saying ss will roll jax.... It's a season long culmination of you being all the things I stated in the other post. You haven't seen me dog WH. I picked them to win! I picked JT to win not sure how I've jumped on any bandwagons. Not when I've picked against my team. And been very critical of them when deserved. I guess it is what it is. Best of luck.
  4. PINE TREE PIRATES Vs MARSHALL MAVERICKS This is a difficult game to gauge for the Mavs. It's "meaningless" in the sense that that the outcome doesn't change much no matter the outcome. PT is out and Marshall will play Sherman in the first round no matter what happens. PT will be playing for pride. Will Marshall come out on fire looking to right things after the losses to JT and WH? Will the Mavs be tempted to rest some beat up players? Will the Mavs be flat because the game as no meaning? Bryce French should be back at QB.......but should he play? All the game? Half the game? None of it? Interesting questions. Good luck to the Mavs. And congrats on another playoff season! Now let's go make some noise!
  5. I remember when you had some of the most enjoyable, insightful, funny, and well-thought posts on SDC. You were definitely someone I highly respected as a fan.....win or lose. Your faith and beliefs were easy to point out in almost any post. A joy to read. Something about you has changed. Kinda sad. Bitter. Mean spirited these days. Which is puzzling to me because your team is finally making a mark for itself. But you just seem to troll all the 14-4A threads popping off mostly about Jax, but also about Kilgore and Marshall as well. Kind of sad IMHO. I hope things get better for you. Because you aren't the same GB you use to be.
  6. OK...the point differential makes more sense now that you show it. And you are right....had Nac won and then beat Hallsville and Marshall lose to PT....the Mavs would be out. Hard to imagine us losing to PT, but stranger things have happened in HS football. Jacksonville is a team that never quits. Hats off to them. They are playing for a share of the district title this week. But they could also be 3-4 plays away from being 2-4 in district play. That's a sign of good coaching, players that never stop, and a little luck. Congrats to Jax!
  7. I'm going to be shocked to see anyone (outside of Marshall) pick the Mavs over Sherman. Do I think we CAN? Yes. DO I think anyone will THINK we can.....not really. ------- On paper....the best matched game of the bunch is SS/Jax IMHO. JT, WH, and Sherman will most likely all be heavy favorites in their games
  8. Yes....because Marshall can't take the top seed from JT....we trail by 3 games with 1 to go.
  9. On a side note....... Congrats to WH on the stadium upgrades. You guys have really stepped up to the plate and given your program a fantastic facility. Visitor's side is still smallish....but it wasn't an issue last night. Not with how down the Mav faithful are right now. I was actually surprised to see as many people from Marshall WERE there given the fact we had so many strikes against us going into the game. But again.... the field, scoreboard, and lighting are all fantastic.
  10. I listened to the game in my car driving home from our game. I lost the signal after the 10th OT. I was late joining (2nd OT) so I missed the scenarios.....but something that was said by the announcers confused me and they never went back and explained it again. BUT.....one of them basically said, "and you Marshall fans out there can relax. No matter what happens in this game you are safe". I'm confused on that. Seems like to me....if Nac had beat Jax by 7 (or 8).... then the Mavs could have been the odd man out. Am I wrong? Trying to see how we could have been safe. Even if we beat PT next week, seems to me we COULD have been squeezed out. Someone explain?
  11. I don't think he's aware of anything. We just get to be the recipients of that choice.
  12. I can't imagine where that comes from. They get it spoon-fed to them all winter long, all summer long, and most of the season. Especially after back-to-back state title games. Trust me.......I work in Longview. I'm surrounded by it all the time. Right or wrong..... there is an arrogance put off by the Lobo Nation. But hey.... ya'll got the 700 program wins to back it up. And the 30+ district titles to back it up. You had all those amazing long streaks of district wins and wins at home going on...... the Lobos have been good for a LONG time. And they've been told they have been good a LONG time. It's not hard to imagine why there is an arrogance in place. I'm a little shocked at how quickly it's disappearing with ONE off season. Especially to the point that the radio guys for the Lobos are commenting on how disappointed they are in the small crowd that made the drive to Mesquite last week and how disappointed they have been in the home game crowds since the team's struggles started. I'm pulling for the Lobos....and I hope to make it to some of their playoff games. Outside of Maverick Football, there is no team I've seen more than Longview. Have driven all over the state to support the Lobos when Marshall isn't playing. I don't know that arrogance is the problem. I've only see you guys once this season. It may just be a down year for talent. Or maybe it's youth. But IF it is arrogance..... it shouldn't be shocking as to where it came from. If those players spent any time on Smoaky, or on 5A Texas football, read the LNJ, or listened to SOME of their fans all year and INTERNALIZED it.... then NO...it's not shocking where it came from. It surrounds them in the community. They hear it all day every day, they read about it, they see it. It's all over the place. Probably going to get killed for all that, but it's just my opinion based on what I see being in Longview all the time and working with "Lobo fans". Some of which have been to 2 games this season :P
  13. sounds good to me. But no idea if that's how it's done.
  14. That's why I was sure to point out their success BEFORE bringing up the record of their opponents. It's no different than the argument we hear about Boise State in NCAA ball. Would Boise have the record they have if they were in the Big 12, Big 10, or SEC? Would Sherman be 9-1 if they were playing JT, WH, Jax and had preseason games against teams like Longview, Lufkin, Carthage, Gilmer, and others like the teams from 14-4A have? I have no doubt Sherman is good. And like I said.....at 6-4, Marshall has absolutely no room to overlook anyone. Including PT this week.
  15. Since Marshall will be facing Sherman no matter what..... I looked them up. Sherman will most likely end the regular season 9-1. Impressive. They are putting up some IMPRESSIVE numbers. Beat The Colony 50-27 Beat Little Elm 30-7 Lost to Highland Park 43-42 Beat Lake Dallas 36-10 Beat Mt. Pleasant 35-7 Beat Sulphur Springs 60-34 Beat Texas High 39-36 Beat Royce City 48-28 Beat Denison 39-0 plays Greenville this week They are scoring a TON of points. The fact that they lost to a HP team that is (9-0) by only ONE POINT is eye opening. Seeing they they beat a very good SS team by 26 is also attention grabbing. Plus...they won at Grim....not an easy task. They look very impressive. One thing that isn't as impressive.....is a majority of their schedule. The Colony (3-6) Little Elm (5-4) Lake Dallas (5-5) MP (1-8) Royce City (3-6) Denison (1-8) Greenville (0-9) 5 of their 9 wins will be against teams with losing records. Another is against a (5-5) and Little Elm could end at 5-5 if they lose to Denton next week. Only two wins against teams with winning records: Texas High and Sulphur Springs. Either way.....Marshall can't overlook them no matter who they have....or haven't played. At (6-4)..... the Mavs don't have the luxury of overlooking anyone. Do I think Sherman has played the likes of John Tyler, Whitehouse, Jacksonville, Longview? NO. But it really doesn't matter. Interesting to see how the districts will stack up in the playoffs. There appears to be a serious gap in the level of competition within each district. But.....after the playoffs start....none of that will matter. Fun to think about. But we've got Pine Tree to worry about this week.
  16. So......unless Jacksonville pulls off a monumental upset this coming Friday......it looks like things are set. 13-4A Sherman 8-1, 5-0 Sulphur Springs 7-2, 4-1 Texas High 6-4, 4-2 Royce City 3-6, 3-2 14-4A John Tyler 8-1, 6-0 Whitehouse 7-2, 5-1 Jacksonville 7-2, 5-1 Marshall 5-4, 4-3 This is if JT beats Jax, Marshall beats PT, and WH beats Kilgore. Also....SS would have to beat RC DIV I PLAYOFF John Tyler (9-1) Vs. Texas High (6-4) Sherman (9-1) Vs. Marshall (6-4) DIV II PLAYOFF Whitehouse (8-2) Vs. Royce City (3-7) Jacksonville (7-3) Vs. Sulphur Springs (8-2) If Jax beats JT.....there would be a three way tie for the district title. Not sure how they would determine the seeds at that point. It wouldn't change the Div I seeds, but it could reverse the Div II matchups so that Jax would get RC and WH would get SS. SOOOOO......where do you see these games being played? Who would you pick in each? John Tyler (9-1) Vs. Texas High (6-4) - LOBO STADIUM or MOUNT PLEASANT? (thinking they may have won Grim already) Sherman (9-1) Vs. Marshall (6-4) - MOUNT PLEASANT ????? Whitehouse (8-2) Vs. Royce City (3-7) MOUNT PLEASANT? Jacksonville (7-3) Vs. Sulphur Springs (8-2) ROSE?? TERRELL??
  17. and about the other conversation......my prediction for the off season...... and I could be wrong. But I wouldn't be shocked to see a change. And it may not be forced.
  18. First off...... congrats to Whitehouse. You guys have a great team. Secondly....... I want to say congrats to the Mavs. These guys went out without their leader....and played a much better game than I think most of us expected. It was 27-21 at half. I'll be honest in saying that I didn't expect the game to be close by the half without Bryce French. Ultimately.....our defense tired out from being on the field a good chunk of the game. WH was able to exploit that and pull away in the second half. I thought the Mav defense.......once again..... played a fantastic night. Some of those 43 points by WH were more because the Mav offense tossed the defense under the bus than poor defense. By the fourth quarter.....the guys were just completely gassed. In spite of the loss.....I saw some encouraging things. I'll be the first to admit I've been frustrated by some of the coaching decisions this year. Particularly on the offensive side of the ball. But something was different tonight.....albeit forced. Tonight..... we were NOT a ONE HORSE offense. Our #1 horse wasn't on the field. That forced some new faces to get into the action. And they did. That was encouraging. If somehow we could find a way to do the same when Bryce French is on the field, the possibilities are endless. See.....tonight we saw multiple guys getting the hand off. The QB kept it some. We threw the ball too multiple receivers. If Bryce had been out there (yes...I think the game may have been a little closer) the offense would have been much more one dimensional. When he is out there...... even though he is THE PLAYMAKER.... we wouldn't have seen all the different hand-offs. We wouldn't have seen all the different WR's getting tosses in their direction. If somehow.....we could find a way to have French do what he does best..... AND get all those other guys involved like we did tonight..... they sky is the limit with this offense. But when the opposition can predict what we are going to do 90% of the time..... we're much easier to defend. I'm guessing French will be back next week for PT. We need to enter the playoffs on a high note. I think we have a team that can make a good run thanks to our defense and IFFFFF our offense can take care of business. Again...... congrats to WH. You guys are very good. But also again.....thanks to the Mavs for putting up a strong fight for as long as you could without a couple of important missing peices. Now....let's get healthy and make a good playoff run. We're better than our record shows IMHO.
  19. Best in East Texas I've actually seen a game at (or many games): Carthage http://www.texasbob.com/stadium/stadium.php?id=1247 Longview (nothing more to be said, really) http://www.texasbob.com/stadium/stadium.php?id=537 Palestine (it's a mini lobo stadium) http://www.texasbob.com/stadium/stadium.php?id=507) Marshall (homer call. Not the prettiest stadium, but GREAT atmoshere) http://www.texasbob.com/stadium/stadium.php?id=354 Hallsville http://www.texasbob.com/stadium/stadium.php?id=429 Mout Pleasant http://www.texasbob.com/stadium/stadium.php?id=556 Texas High http://www.texasbob.com/stadium/stadium.php?id=460 Not East Texas, but still awesome: Berry Center in Cypress ISD.....THE BEST IN TEXAS. Period. http://www.texasbob.com/stadium/stadium.php?id=1050 Burleson Desoto (The double decker is just cool) Pennington Field (this use to be a playoff hotspot back in the day) Frisco (saw a Soccer game there. Dunno how it is for HS football, but it's a great facility) Homer B. Johnson- Garland (It's OLD. But the place can ROCK when it's full. Amazing atmosphere) Gopher Bowl- Grand Prarie (See the same as Homer B) Grande Communications- Midland (a little unreal a HS team plays there) Waco
  20. The Mav site is up to date (mostly). Sorry about the delay. http://www.etsupersite.com/

  22. Speed is still there. Lots of athletes on the field. I think the defense is better this season than it was last season. Hard to imagine that after last week, but JT's 45 points was more thanks to our offense's inability to get a first down than it was our defense's ability to stop them. They were on the field the entire second half. The Mav offense threw them under the bus with four second half turnovers. The defense is good, but they aren't miracle workers. Offense has been our Achilles heel this season. The O-line has struggled to make blocks. We have been too one dimensional at times. And that makes us easier to defend. When our QB is out there.....we are a good offensive team. Not great, but good. When he is not in the game (second half of the Longview game, the entire Hallsville game, and the second half of the JT game) the offense sputters. And that's putting it mildly. Overall....it's a 50/50 draw compared to last season. The defense is better than it was in 2009. But the offense is not as diverse and controlling as it was in 2009. I call it a draw.
  23. I disagree with this being a different story. To me....it's another verse of the same song we've been hearing for a couple of years. TONS of talent not being utilized and the team being one dimensional. Even when there are skill player all over the field and on the sidelines (which really galls a lot of people. As I'm seeing on the Mav site.) I agree with you that it's impossible to to develop a player into a passing QB in 6 months. If the coaches KNOW they are going to run a QB-centric offense.... then why aren't they developing the passing talent in the 9th grade and JV levels? By the time he got to varsity....his skills would be set after 2 years in subvaristy. Better than a spring and a summer on 7 on 7 to make someone a prolific passer. Just takes some foresight and planning to jump on the right kid in Jr. High. I also think the offense would be better if Tutt was at QB and French was used as a scat back or put at WR. No....Tutt isn't nearly as moblie as French.....but if the defense is strung out on 4 or 5 possible ball handlers..... we dont need a mobile QB. Honestly...when French gets back to the field I think we have the talent to go three round deep. Our defense is good enough. And I realize that there are probably 1,000 schools that would LOVE to have playoff runs as good as ours are annually. I d\understand that. I DO. But it's disheartening to see how good we are.... and how good we COULD BE with some smarter decision making. I haven't been told 100% that French is out Friday....but I'd be shocked to see him play. And beating WH without him is going to be very difficult at best. Maybe we can hope for an over confident WH team that thinks we're dead in the water. Or maybe we can have an inspired Maverick team ready to show they can win without their star player. We will know come Friday.
  24. If it's not you....then I apologize in advance, but I'm almost positive it is...... But aren't you the SAME person that was jumping on ANY MAV FAN'S CASE (with a different name) that dared to question this Maverick coaching staff in ANY way for the last season or so????? Anyway..... I think our defense is good enough to keep us in it for a while. But unless the offense can do anything but three and out without French.....we are in for a long night. We have struggled without him (2nd half Longview, Hallsville, 2nd half JT). We have not proven we can beat good teams without him. Don't even want to get started into whose fault that is. UGH. Go MAVS GO!
