  1. Dekalb was selected for the PP homecoming for a reason...same reason they will be the HS homecoming. It's ain't going happen Bears. I think you will get your chance to prove yourself next week but I don't look for that to turn out in your favor. I think HS and Hooks are tops in the district with HS the CLEAR favorite. Pewitt will have to battle but will get the 3rd spot. Fourth Place?? It won't matter. They will be one in done in the playoffs anyway...but at least they will get to brag about making the playoffs!
  2. Hey Romo, since you bring up the past, would you mind sharing with us how well Pewitt has done in the playoff the past couple of years? And they didn't win the district!
  3. Pewitt will NOT stop the HS offense. Period!!
  4. I'm taking Pewitt in this one. The new attitude they are playing with will go a long way in this weak district.
  5. What a way to kick off your appearance on Smoaky Romo. Have you even seen HS play? Pewitt has a decent team and will play hard, but is not the team to beat. 2nd or 3rd in district!
  6. The field and track look very nice. The surrounding facilities (bathrooms, concession stands, parking lot) need lots of help. I figure in five years when they finish paying off the debt on the new field and track they can start on the rest of the facilities. Of course, by then, they won't be to far from having to replace the field again. hhhmmm...
  7. Nope, never heard that number either. Maybe it was talked about at the board meetings and the paper just didn't pick up on it.
  8. I'm not sure what the board ever decided to do in order to pay for the upgrades. When it first came out in the paper it was stated they did not know how they were going to pay for it. I assume they borrowed money. Their fund balance isn't that big and I sure wouldn't want to use over a fourth of it to upgrade a football field.
  9. Bostonlion, I believe Daingerfield has some great teachers, and along with that, Hughes Springs probably has some poor teachers. It's the same in every school district. There are good teachers and bad teachers in every district. This is in no way a knock on the teachers or staff. They do the best they can. Unfortunately, bad schools, or school with bad reputations, most of the time only get worse. Like you said, parents "WHO CAN" are more likely to send their kids to schools with better facilities and academics. What or who does that leave behind? Very few transfer because of PAST athletic successes.
  10. There again, when people start jumping ship, you might want to see what the problem is!!
  11. I guess if all you care about is football, then Daingerfield certainly has the past to brag about. Kudos to you and your PAST successes. We all know you have the hardware to prove it. But, the reality of it is, the Tigers have been on the decline for the past three years and this year they hit rock bottom. For those of us who are sick and tried or hearing about your PAST, yes, we do love to hear about your demise. Welcome back to mediocre! Just sit back and watch. The Mustangs may not win state this year but they are going to make a lot of noise in the coming years. They are going to play hard and fight for everything they get, not within! With that being said, there's more to it than football. I've seen a lot of the Hughes Springs facilities and I hear their new indoor facility is going to be real nice. They have a lot to be proud of in terms of facilities. They have put a lot of work and money into making their facilities top notch. Daingerfield, putting turf on your football field will look real nice while the surrounding facilities (stands, bathrooms, concession stands, parking lots, etc.) are falling apart. NOT a good use of tax payer dollars. While Hughes Springs is building facilities, including classrooms, because their enrollment is increasing, Daingerfield is closing schools, and has declining enrollment (a lot of them going to Hughes Springs). Hughes Springs continues to do well academically every year and by passes Daingerfield at almost every turn. But, hey, if your PAST success in football is all you care about, than Congratulations!!
  12. Did you not read the above article. It pretty much laid it out there for ya! It didn't mention the defense per say, but that has been a strong point...average 10 points allowed per game. Not bad!
  13. Here is what I know/think... Garrison beat Pewitt...I was not impressed at all with the Bulldogs. They ran some funky stuff, but I was not overly impressive with them against a poor Pewitt team. Centerville beat Garrison...I expected a 10-0 team to beat the tar out of Garrison, but it really didn't happen. Maybe they played down to their competition. I personally think Hughes Springs would have beat Garrison by a lot more. Hughes Springs has not played down to their competition, hence 70 points on a poor Hearne team. And, yes, HS does come from a weak district. Hughes Springs has lots of momentum going their way and seem to be on cruise control. They have dominated week in and week out and have been virtually unstoppable. Not saying they can't or won't be beat, because anything can happen on any given night, but things seem to be looking good for the Mustangs. This will be a challenge...something HS has not seen since week one against Clarksville. What do I expect to see? I have no idea. I haven't seen Centerville play. All I know is what I posted above, and that would lean in favor of the Mustangs. As a wise old man once said...boys, we may get beat next week, but dang were GOOD!!
