  1. So, Bearcats go 9-1 or 8-2 and the Rams finish 4-6 or 5-5. Just a non-expert prediction.
  2. Please bear with an old fogey rant: Why on earth do the water boys, student trainers, cheerleaders, twirlers, and other non-players go through the handshake line at midfield? It seems to be just asking for trouble in my opinion. I'll go eat some pudding and go to sleep now.
  3. Any interesting results in the first scrimmages tonight?
  4. I hope the best for all of the players, coaches, and trainers starting practice in this heat. I can't imagine the increased level of difficulty that this weather will bring to bear on practices. Please stay hydrated and don't push too hard early on....even those players/coaches in top shape can have issues in this kind of environment.
  5. By the time the 92 Grapeland team got to the end of the year they had lost all three starting running backs (who also started on defense) and just were not the same without their contributions.
  6. 1991 AND 1992 Grapeland Sandies. Schulenburg beat them by 2 in the semifinals in 91 then injuries piled up the next year and they lost in the third round.
  7. I think there are only two or three head coaches who have won even 1 playoff game at S&S, so 9-22 might not be all that bad.
  8. Where will the new stadium be built?
  9. Congratulations to Coach Mata and West Rusk.
  10. The DEC usually goes with the PAPF unless they have information that the previous school didn't have. I've sat in meetings with a pristine PAPF and been told to get clarification on something one of the schools "heard" about the move.
  11. That is the difference in a transfer and a move in student. Transfers (students not living in the new schools attendance zone) typically come with a one year non-varsity period, unless the student has some extenuating circumstance...bullying at old school, mental health issues, etc. Students establishing residence in a district will have a brief period of varsity ineligibility and once the PAPF form is approved by the district executive committee they become eligible. I don't know how you can establish residence in one district and a few weeks later establish residence in another without drawing at least a look from the DEC.
  12. If I was on the DEC of the district to which an athlete was returning I'd ask two questions: Why did you leave in the first place? and Why are you returning? I think there is room in the UIL rules for an athlete to be ineligible for other reasons than residency.
  13. I've never understood how a player who moves for athletic purposes is denied eligibility then moves back to their previous school and is eligible. Surely if the first move was for athletic reasons the return was also.
  14. Tenaha won its second round game vs. Overton.
  15. Did he transfer or move into the district? Big difference when it comes to eligibility.
  16. Not sure about the success of forced participation. I know there are ways to suggest/recommend participation to athletes, but I'm not sure it is ethical to force someone to play a sport they do not like...and what happens to off season if everyone is always in season. Just sounds odd to me.
  17. So, has anyone done the work to show which current districts are the strongest over the last 6 years according to TF? There are some teams missing from the list that I expected to be there based on the comments of their fanbase if nothing else.
  18. As Legacy looks to a new coach for the future, is there a problem with quality players transferring/moving to other schools? Are the private schools in the area draining good players from Legacy?
  19. Why would Coach Willis come to East Texas? He and his wife are both from small towns in East Texas and he got his start in small schools in the region. He has experienced a lot of success in his career both as a head coach and as an assistant. From the outside, it appears he took Legacy to the playoffs and even won a playoff game, I believe, so I don't know what the rush would be to get a new coach on board.
  20. I love that Denton Guyer and Highland Park are live on direct tv 676-1 and that NFHS network and TexanLive have quality games. I hope the UIL never goes back to no live games broadcast. I'll have the tv and two devices going tonight.
  21. I know it was windy, cold, and rainy on both teams tonight, but one relies on a ground and pound style and one throws the ball around a lot...it is obvious who was hurt the most. But, the fumbles were mostly self-inflicted and happened before contact several times so tonight the better team won. I'm surprised anyone completed a pass in these conditions. Congrats to both teams on excellent seasons.
  22. Pedergrass runs so smooth. I don't know why Commerce had no one on outside contain, but they basically sold out to stop the inside run during the time I watched...I missed the first 2.5 quarters.
