  1. After the last hire, it will take him at least 2-3 years before they can become competitive again. I sure hope he is patient and does well. We all wish him the best. It is just going to be a long road ahead with a weak Jr. class and small numbers. Hoping for the best.
  2. You are so wrong. It does not take a minority coach to coach minority kids. It takes a coach who cares for the kids, is there every day for them, loves them, respects them, and disciplines them. They will work just as hard for him as they would a minority coach. Many coaches whether minority or not have grown up in the same areas as kids in Nac. The kids in Nac must make a commitment to get better and not listen to the town's outside rhetoric. Excuses are plenty. 50 years of losing causes this in the kids and the people on this board. There have been many excellent coaches come through Nac and gone on and did well or had done well elsewhere. Maybe its in the water. Doesn't seem to be in the water at Alto, Garrison, Lufkin, San Augustine, Henderson, Kilgore, Longview, etc. who have the same type of kids.
  3. Not true about the trajectory changing during the Reyes years. I remember them playing kids on one side of the ball, and also having a full J.V. and 2 ninth grade teams. All this changed with Allman. The new coach must be a good recruiter at the Jr. High. He and his coordinators must be there every day to sell their program to the Jr. High players. You can only build from the ground up. This will be a huge challenge.
  4. With less than 30 kids in the Varsity-JV off season program, Nac is already behind the 8 ball. The next 3 years will be bleak at Nacogdoches High in football. Someone is going to have to come in and start recruiting at the Jr. High and get the kids to play football and not go straight baseball, basketball, and soccer. Nac cannot survive if kids are not playing multiple sports. Individual sport recruiting has taken over the last 3-4 years. It is a shame but this is what is happening. When the cats away, the mice will play. You need an AD- Head Football coach that is involved and present at all times. Good luck to the new staff, they will need it. If they can get the kids out, they can compete, eventually.
  5. Losing football players to to become 1 sport athletes after 8th grade… baseball, basketball, and soccer. Nac now has jr. High baseball and soccer, and 9th grade soccer. This affects the total program. Heard there is less than 30 kids in varsity- JV football offseason.
  6. Heard that Coach Allman informed the kids he will not return next year. So, it appears Nac is open once again. Best of luck to the new staff.
  7. Watching this game on live stream. Lumberton kicking CH tail. It’s no contest. Looks like all those predictions are way off. Wow! CH looks a mess.
  8. You are right, but he had two more than most coaches that coached in Nac. If I remember right, he did beat Lufkin two years in a row and went to the playoffs 3 of 7 years. It seems Nac is always looking outward for Boy or Man Wonder, when they have had qualified people in the system. This has occurred for years. Even Bill Harper only made the playoffs in Nac 1 time, and he was an excellent coach. It is a very tough place to coach apparently.
  9. Looks like Nac should have hired O.C. Reyes. Look what he has done at Lumberton. Made playoffs first two years there and won District Championship in his 2nd year. 10-1 and still playing. I heard Nac didn't even consider him, gave him a complimentary interview. I would bet he would at least be at all the practices. Nac has too much talent to be winning only 1 game a year.
  10. Just saw where Nacogdoches had 16 first or second team All District players. They only won 1 game? How did this happen with all that talent?
  11. As I said weeks ago, this was the weakest I have seen this district. There was not a good team in it this year. Hoping for better next year.
  12. This is the worst I have seen this District since its inception. There is not a quality team in it. The tops 3 teams from 4A Division 1 would all win this district. I sure hope it improves next year, as this year has been hard to watch with the mediocrity.
  13. Watching this district this year, it is clear to me that this maybe the weakest it has been in many years. Really have not seen a good team in this district this year. The 4A division 1 district in east Texas is so much better. It’s a shame how weak it is this year.
  14. Nac appears to me to have the players. They look loaded, but play with no passion. They walk on and off the field. Watched them last night, and was embarrassed for them. They have 20 starters back from last year. They throw deep ball 3 of every 5 passes. Overthrows most of the time. Looks like Allman is calling the offense and defense. What a drop off from when he took over. Maybe its time to make a clean move after this disastrous season.
  15. Looks to me as Nac hired the wrong guy. Maybe they should have hired the OC that just put 52 on them, and it could have easily been 66, as Lumberton left 14 on the field in the first half. And they played twos in 4th quarter. same ole Nac, always looking outside for the Gipper. At least the OC would have not been invisible and hard to find.
  16. Maybe Nacogdoches hired the wrong guy the last time. Beat down by former OC, and it could have been worse. Reyes has Lumberton going the right way, and quickly! Nac going the wrong way.
  17. Hiring Allman as AD wont solve the problem. Him being around at practices, bus rides to game and back, and being around at school might help. He is an excellent football coach and AD, but he is never there. This is not a guess, this comes from people at the school.
  18. How bad is Whitehouse? 0 wins, and losing to Mt. Pleasant and Nacogdoches. Not even a shell of their past.
  19. 8 teams and 5 wins. My oh my what a weak group! J’ville vs Hallsville will be a barn burner! 4th place team will be at best 4-6 and get slaughtered in bi district. Sad to see this district so weak!
  20. Good effort by Nac. Lufkin is in trouble with that qb. That was the weakest offense I have seen Lufkin have in the last 20 years or so. Might be a long year for the Pack. Nac just gave out in the 4th quarter.
  21. Nac has had some excellent coaches in the past. It all can't be put on the coaches. Maybe it is the make up of the athletes attitude, work ethic, and support from the home and the town that has something to do with it also. Nacogdoches has been consistently bad since the late 60's. Look at the record in football. The win over Lufkin in 2013, was the first in 22 years. The win the next year was the first back to back wins since the 30's over Lufkin, per the website Texas High school football history. As per the Lufkin site, the coaches are the easiest to blame. Many coaches have come to NHS and had success in the past or when they leave NHS, but have not fared well once in Nacogdoches. There is something in the water.
  22. Rivalry week. Both teams lost last week. Who do you pick to win?
  23. Went and saw Nac practice this week. What's up with their numbers? Do they even have enough for a J.V. and separate 9th football schedule? Won't have many on the varsity as well. Very small numbers as I can see.
