  1. EVERY town has their idiots, please don't assume all of us that are SS followers are like this. To the game-I would have said this was a W for us all season, but the absolute blowout of MP by Marshall concerns me a little. Has MP quit or did Marshall just flat dominate that game? Hate to read to much into a game with MP, but following the score on Friday night and it got out of hand in a hurry. I will stick with my Wildcats and hope Pryor and Company can come out on top.
  2. I would have to agree, how could the future not be brighter. They are that bad this year. Not so certain I buy into it being much above average in the future, so it depends on what you are looking for. They barely beat our JV and we are not real strong. Our Fresh won big over the MP Fresh?
  3. Not sure what to take from the game Friday night. Did we come out and think MP would just give us the W??? We try an unsuccessful onside kick to open the game, MP takes it 50 yards on their first drive and leads 7-0. MP pooch kicks and no one from SS seemed to want to get on the ball and MP recovers and takes it in to lead 14-0 and our offense has yet to see the field. Our first possession is a good drive and we take it inside the 5,but fumble and MP has it again leading 14-0. MP punts, and we can't pick up a first down and MP is forced to punt again. Can't remember if this is when we finally score or if we fumble once again and then hold MP and then go finally score. All of that to say, we basically gave the game to MP and they did not seem to want it. Several shots to drive a nail leading 14-0 and just couldn't get it done. I thought after the 1st Quarter we played pretty well, but MP is not very good. If their QB could hit an open receiver, this game could have been a blowout for MP. I did not count, but he had an off night and they did have open receivers ALL night. #25 for MP can play and should have had a career night because he was behind us all night. The Soph RB for MP is solid as well. Our running game was good from the 2nd quarter on and we were successful when we needed to be throwing the ball on short routes. I had hoped that we could slip into the playoffs with 4 teams going, but I am a little confused at this point. We will see!
  4. Going to get very interesting tomorrow night. Huge games between Marshall-Hallsville and my boys from SS against Texas High. This will be a fun race to watch for the playoff spots behind Longview. No big deal and I know that the Longview paper is reporting it this way, but the MP QB has more than 5 incompletions. When I saw that in the paper last Friday I called a buddy of mine in MP and he said he did not know his exact numbers, but that one game he was 12-29. Like I said, no big deal, but I have seen it reposted three times this week. Not sure where bad numbers like this come from??? Going with SS, Greenville, Hallsville and Longview. Good luck and safe travels!
  5. MP is bad and I mean bad. They have been spanked by two 4A teams that are not great 4A teams in my opinion. Jacksonville is 2-0 and put up a ton of points on PT and Palestine. Heard a few folks that I have talked to say they thought this was one of three games left on MP schedule that they could win and I just don't see it. Offense is horrible, only scored one TD in each of first two games and they both came late in the 4th against backups. Wish my I-30 friends Good Luck!
  6. Homer pick has me staying with SS, but I love this matchup every time these two get together. If you are over the age of 60, might want to stay away because there will be no defense. Not sure how much stock I put into the Whitehouse W over Texas High. When it happened, I was impressed and then Texas High loses to Arkansas High for the first time in 13 years. Maybe Arkansas High is loaded this year. SS loss to Rockwall Heath did not bother me to bad. Rockwall Heath can play and we were in that contest the entire night. Sherman is very bad, so who knows. SS 54 Whitehouse 49
  7. My take on Sulphur Springs. Have to agree we will fall in the 2-3 slot and my bet would be the 3 slot behind no-brainer Longview at 1 and Texas High at 2. Been hearing lots of good things out of Marshall and they could make it interesting, but I will put them at 4 for now. Offense-It will be hard to replace Willie, we have a Sophomore in Jaylon Hawkins that I believe will be special, but he is just a Sophomore. Pryor is back and everyone knows what to expect here. How much defense is able to play may go a long way on how successful the defense will be. Pryor will line up behind one of the best offensive line in the District anchored by Jess Jenkins and Landon Watkins and that may also allow the Sophomore some running room as he gets accustomed the spotlight. Defense-can't be any worse. Return 8 starters, so hoping to see improvement but how can we not improve. Interesting the our Head Coach Owens, who I love and would not trade for anyone, was a linebacker in college and fields a defense that is not very good. Good luck to everyone, cannot get here soon enough.
  8. Larry Pryor, SS and Justin Dunning from Whitehouse should be on the list. I would list them both at safety.
  9. I was also at the SS-Whitehouse Series and at the game yesterday and the ump was the same ump. Not sure why he was allowed to call another Whitehouse game because my understanding was he could not EVER call another Whitehouse baseball game. As far as the kids go, I would have to agree with Cletus. The antics of the Whitehouse players is unacceptable. They rode the third baseman for 7 innings. Did he have a rough one, yes and you will too if you play the game. Those type antics are for hecklers in the stands at the next level, but never in my opinion should high school kids be allowed to act in that manner and I also agree that this has to be promoted by the coach. No dog in this fight, but I did have a dog in the fight when SS played Whitehouse and I just think the game should be decided by the kids. Does MP win the game, who knows, both teams were fixing to go to their bullpens and who knows what would have happened. GREAT GAME and Mahomes and Kopech are both pretty special!
  10. Late posting on this topic, but have to give some credit to the staff at SS. Our staff showed a lot of class in this one. In a game that we could have put up a staggering point total and allowed Willie to break all kinds of records, they pulled the dogs off early. Feel bad to see the Tigers struggle this bad with such high hopes when the season began. There D is just not very good and the O does not have time to be successful. QB was hit in a hurry on just about every pass play.
  11. What a game this should be. Gotta go with my Cats in a close one. No clue what to predict for a final score. SS offense is good, but I am not sure we have faced a D as solid as T-High, so something has to give. Our D has not been great, but is not terrible, so how we match up against the T-High O will also be interesting. Corsicana had a ton of success on the ground and we have to slow the Walker kid down to pull this off. Can't wait until Friday night!
  12. IMO District Championship will be decided Friday night at Grimm. Great matchup of O vs D and I am glad I am not a gambling man because this one would be tough to call. Hallsville looks to be #3 and could challenge the top 2 and the last spot will be between Marshall, MP, and PT. My pick at this point in the season is Marshall for the final spot. From what I saw Friday night, MP cannot stop the run and from what I hear, Marshall runs it fairly well.
  13. Being the week before the playoffs, it will never happen, but I wish they would play this game on Saturday. Lots of folks in the area that would love to see this matchup!
  14. I would have to agree with wide open at the point. My feelings at this point: SS-maybe a little bit of a homer opinion, but until someone takes them down, gotta go with them. Injuries have hurt some-have to wait and see. T-Hi-have to say they are the surprise so far. Hate to say surprise when you say T-Hi, but they are better than I expected. Felt the D would be solid, but O may be coming arouond. The rest is up for grabs: MP-preseason pick to challenge SS for the top spot, but from what I am hearing, the injury bug has struck in a huge way and this team may not be able to recover. Hallsville-possibly not as good as I expected them to be, but will be in the mix. Marshall-improved, but not a good showing against Whitehouse. Thought after the Longview game they were much improved and then the Whitehouse game. Not sure what to expect from the Mavs, but they are better. PT-another mystery, looked promising and then got blown away by Kilgore. Expected Kilgore to win that game, but not in that fashion. Should be a fun race to follow.
  15. I think we all know that Terrell is not a great football team, but they have won a game this year, so maybe they are better than last year, but 9 TD's against a bad 4A fooball team is still impressive and from what I hear the kid only played two drives in the 2nd half. I assume they must have attempted to not double the Cannon kid for him to put up those numbers. I will say the balance that MP has developed based on statistics makes them a better team and might even allow the defense a little rest. I think everyone knows that Kilgore is old school in the fact that they want 8 minute drives and they still play defense, can't be said much anymore. Look for this to be a great matchup. Has the D from MP improved enough to get some stops against the Kilgore ground and pound and can MP have some success on offense against what looks like a great defense. Wish I could see this one.
  16. Hated to hear about Dunning, that kid can flat play.
  17. I understand that injuries are part of the game, but one would be hard pressed to find a team with more injuires than SS is dealing with. Take nothing away from Whitehouse, great football team, but SS is playing short handed right now and may be for a while.
  18. Got the football fever so I decided to slip in on this one. #1-Hoping PP can return to be a contender and #2-see if Redwater could put another quality team on the field. Redwater had not reached the D'field/NB level, but have been much better recently. Could not agree more, Redwater looked pretty bad. PP totally dominated the scrimmage IMO. I understand it is just a scrimmage, but Redwater may be in trouble and even though PP may not be great this year, they are much improved.
  19. My thoughts: 1. SS-have to agree with several other posters, until somene removes them from the top, I have to go with them. This could be the year for someone to take the top spot away, but we will have to wait and see. 2. MP-lots of kids back and most of them have been starters since they were Sophomores. Saw the QB a couple of times this summer at 7 on 7 tourneys and he can flat chunk it. Not sure they can protect him in order for him to be able to chunk it. 3. T-High-they will be better and the big question is the QB slot. Lots of speed and always great athletes. MP or T-High could take the top spot from SS IMO. 4. Hallsville-this one is tough for me. I can see Marshall slide into this slot based on what I am hearing, but it is to early to put them there. 5. Marshall-much improved and no where to go but up. May take them more than a year to turn it around, but they will make a little noise. 6. PT-again, I think they will be better, but don't see them finsihing any higher than this. I am not as sold on the QB as everyone else seems to be. Good looking kid, just not a great QB IMO. Should be an entertaining season and lots of good football to see. The seperation from top to bottom is not what it was last year and I can see some upsets that could change the order in a hurry. Hopefully the District can have a little more success in the playoffs. It is early and we all know that, but it is fun to throw out predictions.
  20. LE was impressive and I wasn't expecting the Cats to have that much trouble with them. Scrimmages are diffucult to read, but it did not look like the Cats were holding anything back.
  21. Just saying things have changed over the years. If I am reading it correctly we now have 8 Superlatives, 5 first team pitchers, 1 catcher (the way it should be), 5 first team infielders, 4 first team outfielders, 1 DH and 1 utility. Looks like it is becoming more like dance and cheer competitions where everyone is a winner. Never said the kids can't play, only saying there are 9 positions on the field and 24 players getting superlatives and first team. Times have changed!
  22. Doesn't leave many openings on first team for the rest of the District. Maybe it is now where everyone makes first team. Anyone have entire list?
  23. WOW!!! Does it really take nine to play? All I was saying is if you have a PITCHER who throws 90's and another PITCHER who throws mid 80's at the 2A level, you will be tough to beat. Nothing against 2A ball, but unless you are facing WO, HS etc., then you don't need much defense. Now if a kid can throw in the 90's and is not a pitcher, then we have a different story and maybe this is the case in Jefferson, but the claim in a much earlier post was they had two studs. Yes it would help if you can push across a few runs. Comparing the Yankees and their payroll to high school baseball is very much the same thing.
  24. How does a team (Jefferson) with a kid throwing 90+ and another kid in the mid 80's start the District 1-2 in 2A Baseball?
