  1. Crosby got beat by a 4a DII team that didn’t make it past the 3rd round. I would expect them to want to keep that quiet. I don’t think there is a wound except for these seniors and the rest of the coaches and players. Fans? Yea of course we want to win every game from know until kingdom come, but that’s just not realistic. I’m thankful for a great season and some new records in the books. The bar is set so high at Carthage that this is a disappointment, but I won’t look at it as that. Just another great season that came up a little shorter than some of the rest.
  2. Officiating?? Well I won’t even go there. Carthage fans, believe it or not, and contrary to popular belief, usually tip our hat to teams that beat our Dawgs, so I will just leave it alone. Maybe another day.
  3. Nice win. Act like you been their before, ohh wait you haven’t. Again nice win CS. Hope this isn’t one of your fans. Probably just a troll.
  4. No one that has followed Carthage this year should be shocked by this score.
  5. Carthage program has nothing to hang their head about. This group of seniors won a lot of ball games. Thanks for a great season. I know it stings right now for the players, coaches, and fans but tomorrow is a new day. Thanks to all the seniors for all you have done for this program and all the hard work. Y’all all got a ring and helped the program win a program record 41 games in a row. That was a hell of a ride. Time to start a new streak!
  6. Now go win it all. Y’all got the team to do it. Execution was unbelievable. Were not the least bit intimidated. Brought the hat all night. That looked like a state title finalist to me, and my pick as the state champ.
  7. CS execution was excellent. Very disciplined team.
  8. Congrats to CS. Great team. Y’all go win state. Now is only the time to congratulate them on their win, there will be time for lots of discussion in the coming days. Thought CS played about as good of a game as they could, and came away with a huge win. Great season Dawgs. Keep your heads up.
  9. Felt like 100 to nothing. Domination. Nobody that was there will ever forget that. Looked like Carthage was running in sand compared to LV. That was a great LV team, and one that is probably not talked about enough historically. Probably because they should’ve dominated Argyle, but didn’t play well in the championship and almost got beat. Carthage made a good run that year and it was a lot of fun watching them play, they were all heart. They were down to their last bit of gas when they met LV in the semi-final. Ran out of gas after the first drive.
  10. I don’t know. Maybe. I’m saying I think this is the toughest game the Carthage program has played since 2019. Carthage had some close playoff games that year. Played some really good teams. Carthage has not played a close game in the playoffs the last 2 years. Last year was ridiculous. Outscored opponents 244-42, and that includes a forfeit by Gatesville who Carthage would’ve beaten by 50. So it really should’ve been close to outscoring opponents 300-42. This year no close games in the playoffs. The Crosby and Gilmer games were pretty close this year (Crosby very close), but they were just regular season pre-district games. Not much riding on winning or losing. Like I said I think this is Carthage’s toughest game in a couple years given it’s in the 3rd round of the playoffs.
  11. This is gonna be a hell of a game. Toughest game for Carthage since the beginning of 2020.
  12. I didn’t think about that comparison, but you are right! I think #3 might even have a little more speed than Colbert. If he is 75% of what Colbert was in the playoffs in 2017, than he is going to be a weapon!
  13. Run game was on point last night. Williams and Cabada continue to improve. Really impressed with #21’s long speed last night. He looked like the fastest kid on the field and was making 1 cut and getting north and south in a hurry. As usual cotton84’s input was spot on. Using #3 out of the backfield some last night was something that looks like it’s going to be a big part going forward. He looked good coming out of the backfield. I liked those swing passes to him and it also looks like he is the best option on those jet sweeps. This offense will continue improving as they get more experienced, but all the fans should be excited about what they saw last night. I know I was.
  14. I thought Surratt said last week that if Gatesville beat Robinson (and Carthage was #1 seed) then it would be Gatesville in round 1? I might have misunderstood. Thanks for the update.
  15. Not even close. The numbers don’t drop. Carthage will never see 4a DI again.
  16. Hopefully Jax at 1278 will move down to 4a where they can be a little more competitive. They have been down a long time. That could help them start to have at least some success.
  17. The 5a DI cutoff last time was 1921. Aledo turned in 2090 this time. Looks like they will be in DI. Will be a much tougher road for them in DI. The days of them winning a state title every year might slow down a little.
  18. Yea, they will definitely be 5a. Don’t see how the cutoff numbers would move up by 110+ kids. That would probably be the biggest jump ever. They will do fine in 5a DII.
  19. So is it for sure thing that whoever wins this game is in the playoffs?
  20. One thing to remember is it makes it a lot easier on the QB when you have an elite run game to open up the pass. The last 2 QB have had the luxury to have Keaontay Ingram and Mason Courtney in the backfield to lean on and an experienced OL, especially when the last 2 QB were junior 1st year starters. Remember in 2014 and 2015 the Dawgs struggled a little bit too. Once Keaontay was given more carries and kind of took over as the lead back in the playoffs all the sudden the offense and QB were as good as there was in the state. In Surratt’s offense being able to be balanced is critical. As the RB and the OL continue to develop you have to expect the passing game will improve along with the overall offense. This is still a very young group. The physical tools are there at QB and RB. Williams and Cabada have already improved a lot this season. I think Williams will be the man when he gets healthy. With all that said 7 turnovers ain’t gonna get it. That’s not some controversial thing to say. Don’t think anybody has ran any of the kids down individually because there isn’t one person to point the finger at. There is no one person to blame. You want to see a fan base do that go to a Longview thread.
  21. Against Carthage achievements? You gotta be joking. Dude, it’s obvious Carthage will win state this year. That’s not the point. Carthage is on a level of their own. They are competing to be the top pound for pound program in the state. Of course I am not against their achievements. Like Coach Surratt says every win should be celebrated. I’m just not gonna blindly say how great they did when they didn’t play to the standard they have set. I couldn’t be more for this program and what it’s done for this community.
  22. Carthage increases its win streak to 37 with this win against Rusk. The current 4a record is 40 held by Carthage and WO-S. Carthage should eclipse that this season. 40 games in a row is also tied for 9th all time any class. Looking ahead the 8th spot all time is 41 held by Hull-Daisetta and the 7th spot is held by Cuero at 44. The all time win streak is 68 held by Celina. Another cool stat is Carthage and SLC are the only 2 programs in the state with 3 x 30+ game win streaks. If Carthage’s current win streak gets to 40 again they will be the only program in the history to TXHSFB with 2 or more 40 game win streaks. Carthage is also on a 49 game regular season win streak. With Allen, Argyle and Denton Ryan all having a regular season loss this year Carthage currently has the longest active regular season win streak in the state. Looks like they will finish the regular season winning 51 in a row. That will be tied for 9th all time with SLC from 2002-07. The current 4a record is 71 held by SLC from 1986-93. Allen holds the all time record at 84 which ended this year. That steak started in 2012. Just a note because we all know where Carthage stands on championships. 8 is tied for 3rd place with SLC, Celina and Mart. Ahead of that it’s Katy with 9 and Aledo with 10. Will be a battle to pull ahead of Katy and Aledo. Like Carthage they keep winning. Scott Surratt is individually tied for 2nd place with G.A. Moore with 8 state titles. Ahead of them is Gordon Wood with 9. Fully expect SS to leave Carthage with that individual record. Pretty impressive stuff. Probably the most impressive part of all of this is that it’s all happened since 2008.
