Not sure about who the best football in East Texas is at the present time,but, you can find one of the WORST at Nacogdoches.

If a kid commits to football or any other sport, he should stick it our for the season. Parents should not allow their kids to quit because they need to be taught to honor their commitments. If you quit a sport, it becomes easier to quit something else. Quitters are losers........period. As for the guy who said he quit to spend the weekend with his girlfriend..........if she wanted you to quit instead of coming to support you, you needed a new girlfriend and your teammates were better off without you because you would have quit on them when the going got tough. Show me a guy who quits sports and I'll show you someone who will bounce from job to job.

Nacogdoches ISD is a joke from the supt. all the way down. They finally hited the interim as permanent supt after naming her as the lone finalist TWICE.....the first time they didn't act on it. I guess she is desperate so she stayed. Now, they are doing something else that is unheard of .......hiring a new supt. and giving them a 14 month contract. LOL They are having a hotly contested school board election...........as far as the basketball coach, they should not have lied to him when they hired him about only coaching basketball. They need to shut up and give the man his job back. The AD who is running for the board is a long-time soccer coach and will probably win the election......he's very popular there. The former supt. msitreated him and lost his job for doing so.

Somebody said if parents pay taxes in a district, the kid should be allowed to play. NO, if the school isn't good enough to educate the kid, the kid should not be allowed to play on any sports team connected with the school........Personally, I don't think the majority of parents are qualified to home school their children. I coached and taught in Texas schools for 30 years and I don't think parents can adequately prepare kids for either college or the work force unless the kid's goal is flipping burgers at McDonalds.

I hate to bring this up,but, when you start rating great coaches, I don't like putting guys who broke rules and/or got their schools put on UIL probation.......How many times was Fort Wroth Dunbar slapped with a probation while Robert Hughes coached there? Aldridge was a guy of very questionable morals to say the least. When you list great coaches, wins are important but integrity and character need to count for something

Worst basketball officials anywhere come out of the Nacogdoches Chapter.................Baseball umpires have mostly been pretty good.

If you are born MALE, you remain a male........if you are born a FEMALE, you remain a female. You can have organs removed, take estrogen or testosterone, etc. but you are still the same gender you were when you are born. Males should be forced to compete against males and females compete against females. The UIL has always "selected" which rules and policies to enforce and their decisions are usually based on the school that is involved rather than enforcing rules to the letter. For them to allow that male to win the state wrestling championship as a female is a joke and a disgrace. It should be taken to the courts and hopefully a Texas Appellate Court will stop this nonsense. On another note, keep males out of girls restrooms and locker rooms....we have allowed liberals and perverts to run things for too long.

There are LOTS of problems in Hearne and many of them have nothing to do with the school district. Police officers shooting 94 year old women because they think they are a threat. Same cop had already shot and killed another person in the past in Hearne. This time they fired the guy. The former coach went back to Burton apparently because of philosophical differences with the new supt. Hearne changes administrators nearly as often as people change underwear. They are known for having a corrupt city council. LOTS of parents of white kids transfer kids to nearby districts such as Mumford and Franklin. Discipline in the school district is said to be non-existent. I used to coach in a nearby school and we played Hearne in basketball......no problems when we went there but we were very careful. Good athletes.......lots of problems........I wouldn't touch this job with a ten foot pole.

Crockett has never had much discipline in their schools. Some parents send their kids to Latexo, Lovelady, etc. due to that. They want their kid educated instead of sitting in classrooms with gang members. They usually have the athletes but fail to win because the kids are not disciplined and are allowed to do as they please. Any aspiring coach should run fast in the opposite direction.

A coach has to be himself or his players will see right through him. If his personality is that he is loud and aggressive, his players expect that and adjust to it. They also respect him for being himself. I have never known a player who had any respect for a coach he thought was being a phoney. I coached for many years and I got into trouble at times for being myself but my players knew I was genuine and respected me for being myself. They also played hard for me and I think I lost one player in 27 years because he was too sensitive to adjust to my coaching style. I respect anyone for being who they are and have no use for anyone who tries to be something they are not.

I suppose some of you had rather have a coach who would sit and twiddle his thumbs while his team gets a raw deal from an official or is not playing up to their usual standards. I'll take a coach with some fire in his belly over a laid back clown any day of the week.

At this time in the playoffs, you can throw rankings out the window. Who the teams played to get them prepared is more important than a gaudy won-loss record and a high ranking. An unranked girls team won Class A, Region 4 due to playing a tough schedule. They beat the #3 team and two other highly-ranked teams.

Grapeland or Tenaha wins the region. As for Austin, Triple A will win the state title due to the fact that the UIL is allowing them to compete in spite of the fact that they recruit along the same lines of a college football coach.

If JB Haggerty is a good man he has changed from how he was back in the late 70's when he was at Karnack. He officiated all of Karnak's home Jr. high games to be sure Karnack won. He had no class or integrity then. Maybe getting out of Karnack was good for him.

A "charter school" is like a private school in that it can RECRUIT its own players. No charter school should be allowed to compete in UIL sports or any other activities. Let the charter schools form their own organization and have their own championships. Allowing AAA or any other charter school an advantage like they obviously have defeats the purpose of the UIL. If the directors of the UIL can't or won't stop this, then, the superintendents need to vote these charter schools OUT.

If JB Haggerty is still there, you have no class. The coach I had in mind about looking the other way was Crawford.

Since when were Tatum fans considered to be such high-class people!!! You have had football coaches who looked the other way while their players did and sold drugs because they thought they could not win without them. I could go on on but I think you get the idea.
