  1. Well, Bobby McGallon has one big time win against the Bulldogs, when they were supposed to be so great. About 1994 when he was at Navasota. Knocked the # 4 Bulldogs out of the playoffs that year in the first round. Maybe time for a repeat.
  2. Alvarado was way down this year. Lost a bunch of great players last year. They replaced them with just good players this year. Not the Alvarado we have seen in the past couple of years. Cycle up, cycle down even in the large 3A schools.
  3. I rememebr several years back when the Carthage people thought the same thing. About 1994 or 95. They went over to SFA Stadium ranked number 4 in the state and played a lowly Navasota team that had never been in the 4A playoffs. The Bulldog dream season ended that night at SFA as that lowly Navosta Team beat their tails. Just saying, maybe you better hatch those chickens before you start counting them. Carthage is good, but it takes talent and a little luck to win it all. One kid, one injury and a whole dream can be over.
  4. I remember that game against LaVega to. I believe that they had to come from behind with just a few minutes left in the game to beat Athens. No, I know that is what happened. Don't count these guys out to quick.
  5. This doesn't sound right. If the kid has been in the district since he was four years old, isn't that continuous enrollment. That makes him legal even if he is living with Aunt Sussie. Something else must be in the mix here.
  6. I have personally been in a stadium with these same fans who were hollering throw the ball dammit as it was flying through the air.
  7. You had a young hungry coach that ya'll ran off right before Essary and Company as we are now referring to the came to town.
  8. Thats my point Athenian. Going to the playoffs the first year Essary and company were there, not good enough. Going to the Regional Finals the 2nd year, not good enough. Being in the hunt this year, even though you have struggled with young players, not good enough. Haven't fired or rrun off a head coach and ad in the last few years. Not good enough. Only happy it the paper gets to report about the new guy i guess. Keep that door revolving going and continue to get the same results. hould Athens be dominating that District. I think so, but is it the coaches fault, lets let time tell. If he has the same kind of season year after year from here on out, it is his fault. I don't think Essary's past indicates that will happen. Anyone remember playing in December just a couple of years ago. When was the last time the people of Athens got to see that.
  9. Would someone please tell me the last time that Athens has had the kind of success that they have had under Essary. Yes, they are a little down this year. That happens. Maybe it is the jummy's and the joes and not necessarily the x's and the o's. Young kids often result in loses you should have won. They also result in wins next year and the years after. Athens history proves it is not a South Lake Carrol. They don't just reload every year. They will struggle at times and can be good at times. Get off the coaching staff's butt and get behind your team. And as far as going behind the backs of the coaches and asking the kids questions, when are you going to go to Coach Esary and ask him those questions face to face. After you have had that discussion, get back to us with you gripping and complaining. Or just fire Essary and those sorry coaches and go back to what you had before. That will be impressive. Towns that have some success, often forget where they have been.
  10. Well if Essary and company are not there next year, It will be just another wrinkle in good ole Athens Athletics. He has done more for that town and their football team than any other recent history coach. That is the problem with many high school programs. Hit a year or two with a little down turn in ability or maybe have to play some younger kids and everyone is ready to axe the head coach. So what happens to the program. They get to start all over. The most successful programs are the ones were they tough through the hard times, keep the same coaches and eventually a program is developed. Changing coaches every few years, Athens will never be a program. They may win some, but never on a constant basis
  11. They played in 2009, Essary's first year there. Mababnk won pretty handlely. Athens quite trying to throw the ball every play after that week and were able to beat some good teams, Palestine and then played Brownsboro for the District Championship the final District game of the year I beleive. Got beat the next week by LaVega in a very close, come from behind win in the playoffs.
  12. They did have another Offensive guy before Hayes. He ran the spread, but he ran more than he threw the ball. He spread the ball around and let lots of different players touch it. He in no way depended on the stud from U T. I just can't for the life of me remember his name. He was here, it took a while to get started, but they were pretty descent about week four or five. Then all of a sudden he left. I think he went back to Houston.
  13. Athens needs to get into an offensive scheme that suits the kind of players they have available. We had that a few years back. Then we got a new offesne and then another new offense and now another new /old offense. I am not sure where the guy went, can't even remember his name, but the first year Essary was here we had a pretty diverse offense. The wing t is ok I guess, but we have athletes. We need to spread the feild, get lots of kids involved in what is going on and let our talent take care of things. Since we bring coaches in and out and back in again through a revolving door, lets find the guy we had essarys first year and get him back
  14. Athens is probably much more talented, but I bet Ivy will have Canton playing hard,
