That game just snowballed on Gilmer.

One of a few times that the Buckeyes were not able to match up well or rise to the occassion and run with the Dawgs.  Hey, it happens.  Especially if you routinely play great teams.  Just bound to happen some years.  Glad to pass the crown on to another unfortunate team.  That Carthage-over-Gilmer score remains with us forever though.

  2. SE Texas + NE Texas = East Texas, unless my math is wrong.

However, when most(?) of us visualize East Texas, what we really "see", in our own little world, is NE Texas.

Go ask folks in PN-G or maybe even Lufkin and the geography would probably be flipped and they would claim to be the "real" East Texas and us pretenders are really from NE Texas.

Agree 100% on the pre playoff schedule. Gilmer defense looked like they were outmatched with some teams running all over them.

Yes, our young defensive linemen would often be standing straight up, watching the play and after the play look around, bewildered, like what happened.  Things finally clicked and they now understand their assignments.  Much different defense now.  Should be a good battle between both teams on Friday.

This is one crazy post.  Everyone must be really bored if we are talking about two coaches standing on the sideline in a touch football game that was 6 months ago!!!! lol

Yes, we are all bored, waiting on the playoff games to start tonight.  Please add more to keep us occupied until about 6pm tonight.  Didn't know when I first started reading this thread, that popcorn would be such a tasty snack to enjoy this one with.

Folks in Groveton would rather die than go to school at Lovelady. But there is a good chance this is someone from groveton considering Lovelady’s recent success and groveton’s…lack of

Well, the way I heard it, several years ago, the Groveton coaches entered the transfer portal and were poached by Lovelady.  So, there may be some truth to your view.

  6. Wow!  Just when we were all getting over the couple of knuckle-headed PG posters on Facebook, wanting the UIL to look into officiating at the Carthage/PG game, now somebody is able to top it.  Hilarious, thread!!!  My only wish for Christmas is that there was a "UIL" to report our Gilmer Broadcast Crew to, for over-the-top homerism.  Well, maybe not, they are entertaining, if nothing else, much like this thread.

  7. Need to pressure the GR QB and challenge the receivers at the line of scrimmage.  Glen Rose has a great passing game.  We have to eliminate our turnovers.  This is the time of year where turnovers keep you from advancing (C-Dawgs can relate).  Do not gift the other team extra chances on offense.  Have to let our defense catch their wind and get some quick coaching up on the sideline, rather than keeping them on the field excessively.

That was 2006 when L.E. put it on us in the first round and won state.

2005 we got beat 61-58 by Canton, which I believe was the last time we have lost at Rose Stadium.

I got to say this, I have been very critical of the Gilmer defense and coaches this year and I think rightfully so, but they deserve credit. They have worked and worked and pulled off a shocker last night. They have adjusted the defense throughout the year and it still ain't that great, but it won last night!

I don't get how our coaches completely get out coached and schemed by a team like Sunnyvale, who we should have beat by multiple touchdowns, but barely beat by a last second field-goal, and then turn around and coach and scheme as good a game as they did against one of the greatest duos of all-time in Coach Surratt and Coach Preston.

That shows that Metzel and his staff CAN do it, but WILL they do it. Guess we will see next week if they are on top of things, or if this really was just a "lightening in a bottle" type game for Gilmer against Carthage.

Hope they got it figured out and beat Glenn Rose.

And for Carthage, as always, what a pleasure to play such a class program. Y`all are the cream of the crop. Coaches, Players, Fans, etc.......just top notch. Y`all are going to be scary next 2 years. I can't wait to see how good that sophomore RB is as a Senior, that kid has it. Same thing with Jett. And #70 for Carthage is a hell of a player. I think he played almost every snap on the o O-Line and D-Line.....that's impressive.

I always get 2005 and 2006 seasons mixed up.   Yes, Carthage is a class program and community that everyone wants to be like.  I agree that the next 2 years will be frightening for Carthage opponents.  Crazy upside potential with their young guns.

Probably not near enough, but it comes down to matchups, sometimes.  We expect Carthage to win, but that ain't stoppin us from also expectin the Buckeyes to give it their best effort and hope for some lucky breaks.  Playoffs have a way of giving us unusual winners and losers at times and maybe this will be one of those times for us to steal a win from the Dawgs.  Gotta see how it plays out, but yeah, Carthage should win.

It seems like Gilmer matched up with Carthage better than Gilmer against PG.  Running QBs have been a constant thorn in the side of the Buckeyes all year.  Thank you Dawgs, for not letting young pup Surratt run wild on us like other teams.

  10. Game reminds me of 2005.  #1 Gilmer knocked out by Liberty-Eylau.  LE had either 3 or 4 losses to start their season (similar to Gilmer this year).  How could LE possibly hang with the unbeaten Buckeyes.  Nobody thought it was possible, but LE showed up and showed out, when everyone said Gilmer was unbeatable and already expecting the Buckeyes to easily pick up their 2nd State Championship.

Gilmer lost to Pleasant Grove by 5 TDs. So the question is: how much have the Buckeyes improved since that beatdown?

Gilmer needs to win this gam for NE Texas.   Speed will win it.

Aubrey has a speedy #1, just like Gilmer.  Their #1 is not quite as fast, but probably faster than anyone we have seen yet.  He gets around end, he is gone, just like our #1.  We need to contain better than in the first half of last week's game and then not let them open up the middle of our defense.  Yeah, right, like our defense is gonna magically shut down another team, especially in the playoffs.  We will have to be happy, to just survive another week, if we are lucky and luck factors into a lot of playoff games.

I’m still sitting here shaking my head at the SVale coach. Why was he insistent on playing #16 at QB? I believe #16 handled 5 drives, maybe 6? And they resulted in 0 points and very little production. In this game, as close as it was, and with Gilmer having an off night, he basically gave the game away. IMHO, if he plays #1 all night at QB, SVale takes that game. It was a head scratcher for sure.

I think their coach had to give him some breathers, cause our defense absolutely wore him out, letting him run wild, with big, long runs around the ends, in the first half and right up the middle in the second half.  Anybody get his rushing stats?  Seems like he may have run for 200 yards.  We were sure thankful, every time they sent in #16, to give our defense a breather.  Peterson (#1) is just a sophomore.
