BUT then he made a solid move.

Hired Todd Peterman (won state at Desoto as HC) as OC and that was the little adjustment needed to get DV that extra push.Β

Seeing someone other than Coach King as HC at Longview....I'm not quite there with it but I'm all for getting an OC in here and giving him total control. Val can continue working with QBs, Coach King could continue being heavily involved with OL, running game and overlooking the team but all play calling and personnel management duties....bring in an OC for that.Β

    Right on.Β

that hurt my feelings lol i still stand by my statement. if a coach took over longview and failed to win the district championship after a few years fans would be calling for his head.

I'd still love to hear what people think of Samples at Duncanville. Really wish I coud've seen what they thought before he finally won a title.Β

Lol I'm glad he's working out there. Most OU fans were "happy" to see him go at the time because he overworked players or something. But he made a HUGE impact on our team.

We miss him BADLY here. So many injuries, getting shoved around on the line of scrimmage, running out of gas late in games.... I've been reading up on Elko's hire of David Feeley and he seems awesome.Β

Post them so I can insult them.Β  However, that commercial is from the A&M game.Β  It was loud, clear, and massive.Β  Somewhat embarrassing, but I understand where the excitement was coming from at the time.Β Β

As fans, as a whole, we are idiots.Β  "They know not what they do."Β  So nothing surprises me anymore.

Heh it is what it is. Can’t really disagree. My roommate in college (who’s dad coached in the NFL for years) always used to say β€œFans are stupid”. And he’s right.Β

Or like Men in Black said. β€œA person is smart. People are stupid.”

I don't think so.Β  The SEC Network commercial chants " SEC SEC SEC" is directly pulled from an A&M game.Β  I am not sure any other school in the SEC has had that happened where the fans are literally rooting for their conference instead of their team.Β Β

Uh, I could post several bowl games from a few years prior where I KNOW there were audible β€œSEC SEC” chants from teams not named A&M as the clock ticks down.Β

I know at the few baseball games where I’ve seen/heard it, they were all against Texas, and all because of the bitterness that arose from the situation of us leaving.Β

He might not be the best dude but denying his knowledge and understanding is kinda ridiculous. You are just mad because you get called out for your ignorance and ridiculous statements . Please use the dumb and dumber thread that are mods made . Thanks for your concern about the Aggies. It is Dooley noted and properly ignored.

Even Lion is now dunking on db. Absolutely hilarious.Β

    Crazy thought:

Would kliff come back to be an OC if you just paid him a lot? And would you want that?

I've heard a LOT of people clamoring for that.Β

I don't really want that for a few reasons:

    1. He probably is banking on getting another HC job somewhere at some point. Last time he was here, he left after 1 season. I don't want to hire him, have a good offense for one season, then have him leave again.

    2. His offense was stellar here, but he was coaching Johnny (Heisman), Mike Evans (4x Pro Bowler), multiple OL who went to the NFL (Patrick Lewis, Luke Joeckel, Jake Matthews), Ryan Swope (veteran who was drafted but had to retire due to concussions). Was it his scheme? Or was it insane players making insane plays? Or both?

    3. As you said, he would take a lot of money and we're downsizing on money for staff.Β

All that said, his offenses actually did pretty well in the NFL. I wouldn't absolutely hate it if he came here. But he isn't my first choice for an OC.Β

Bet that going to be a pretty penny. Knowing you , you probably got connections.Β

Let’s just say I get comp tickets. They WERE better seats but the new suites displaced us lol But I ain’t complaining- free is free.Β

Ainias has a year left if he wanted to come back. He'd be a great glue guy to try and see if he'd be willing to come back. I'm curious to see what happens with Moose. Kid has talent but for whatever reason he was in Jimbo's doghouse. If you could have Stewart, Thomas, Moose, Smith, Walker and mix in Drelon Miller and Cam Coleman catching passes from Weigman in a modern scheme? πŸ‘€πŸ‘€πŸ‘€

Don’t want Stewart. Wouldn’t mind Moose and the others.Β

I think people forget that there only a handful of truly elite coaches in Texas. Even the elite coaches need to be in the right situation to succeed. Replacing a coach with a 90% winning percentage with the hope that you can do better is just crazy IMHO. Seldom is a program dominant for any length of time. Look at Allen, Judson, HP just to name a few. I can certainly name more programs who have fallen of the map than those who have taken that next step to a championship. Coach Samples like King could never win a championship despite his many close calls. He found a great fit and Duncanville took off. Ever wonder what happened to Skyline after he left. If the mindset is yearly state championship or bust, I can tell which one is going to prevail 99% of the time.

Lol I wonder how many Longview fans would've wanted to fire Samples before last season if he had produced similar results at Longview.Β

Elko and Erob should keep most the defense in tact both current roster and recruits. There will be some guys leave but that’s likely a playing time issue more than coaching change. It’s the offense that could take a hit. I’m hoping he can find an OC sooner rather than later. We don’t need another situation where you hire Petrino so late in the process that you essentially forfeit any chance to fight for guys during early signing.Β

Remember, a lot of those guys signed on to play with them. As he mentioned in the press conference, a lot of players couldn’t wait to give him a hug and welcome him back.Β

Offense can and will take a hit. But the line will get better just on account of a new coach and new S&C. That alone will make the offense stronger. As long as we keep Weigman and a few of those good WRs, I’m not too worried. Is it a pipe dream to want Smith to come back?

Bjork said he wanted to cut back a little but I think that has us closer to the top in that department.Β

Yep. Like I said, I like the cut back. Only thing I’d do differently would’ve been to have a little less in the guaranteed and a little more in incentive but overall I’m happy.Β

Sadly it’ll take a while to see how the dust settles.Β
