  1. As of now? Yes. Ole Miss is pretty good though. Only losses are to UGA and Bama. That said, this is all contingent on Bama beating UGA. If they lose that game, they’re completely out. If they win, UGA will of course be their biggest win.
  2. They gave up 52 or something to Ole Miss. And I know they gave up a lot to Arkansas comparatively. Their offense is stellar tho
  3. They may as well do away with targeting as a rule. I’ve seen guys ejected for less. What a joke.
  4. I really don't think he was trying to "play nice". Even with being "conservative", Longview was heading in to score against Aledo and Tatum fumbled. Also, that has nothing to do with the fact that in the aggregate, I think Aledo was more talented than Longview. I guess I can look up numbers on which teams had guys taken D1. Heck, think about 2018. I know King went D1, Gorem-Welsh went to Oklahoma State, and Jesse Anderson went to ACU. Did our state title team have any other D1 players?
  5. To expand on your previous point on Ryan Day, I watched his team blow a huge lead in the 4th quarter playoffs last year. When you have an offensive coach who hasn't figured the defensive side out, that's what you get. Riley similarly blew a huge lead to Georgia back in 17.
  6. This is what I hate most about having a "committee" decide things. Their criteria seems to change every year to fit who they want to be there rather than their picks changing to fit their criteria. If Alabama beats Georgia, don't be surprised if they leave Texas out and say Alabama beat better teams and leave head to head by the wayside. That's just what happens when you get a committee of people hand picking teams that make it instead of some kind of standardized criteria.
  7. I don't want Ryan Day for the reasons you mentioned- inherited a top program, can't get over the hump, etc. Now, Richard Day on the other hand...
  8. Most Longview people apparently want King gone lol. I don't think anyone is going to "come for you". I may disagree with you, but I appreciate your perspective and opinion which is more nuanced than a lot of people. What "hungry up and coming guy" do you think we should get? Everyone says they want King gone, but nobody has any realistic solution or answer as to who we should get as our Head Coach. Then my second question- is it worth the risk? I've seen every other big East Texas program go from a state title to 1-9 in my lifetime (except Lufkin who's been 4-6 and was 5-5 this year) when they lost their head coach who won state for them. I know Kilgore moved on from Vallery.... And they've been strong since then but only about what Longview has been (just without the state title). People are asking our next coach to win state multiple times, right? Cause if we just get a guy who goes the state a few times, goes to the semifinals a few times..... We'll have made a lateral move at best.
  9. Yeeeahhhh that's what a lot of people keep forgetting (probably intentionally cause it blows up the idea that Longview players are infallible while coaching lets them down every year... something that's been the case since well before King was our coach). Even if King got "conservative" last year, Longview was going in to score and Tatum fumbled the ball. He didn't go out there and drop the ball, miss blocks, false start, etc. I guess you could say that he could've "fixed" that issue, but anyone who's been close to the game knows that isn't necessarily the case lol.
  10. It might. And we might end up like a lot of other big east Texas schools after they lost their coaches. There are about 6 coaches I’d rather have over King, none of them are realistically coming to Longview. So our best bet is a huge gamble. I’d hate to be take that gamble given what we have, but clearly others disagree.
  11. Maybe. I watched Saban win multiple championships in College and win 4 games in the NFL before quitting. Urban Meyer won championships at 2 different college programs and went 3-13 in the NFL. It’s a different game with different challenges, different competition, different everything. Some coaches cross the line and do well (Jimmy Johnson), some don’t. Surratt might do well, he might not. We’ll never know. We do know he’s done amazingly well at the school he’s at.
  12. He needs to win at higher levels. Until he does, it’s only speculation. Traylor won state at Gilmer 3 times. He never won a state title at a higher level. He did well as a recruiter at Texas and is doing well at UTSA. Doesn’t mean he’d take any 6A team in Texas and have them competing for state titles.
  13. Carthage is a lower level. Celina won like 10 titles there. Not remotely an apples to apples comparison. Southlake won back then because they had money, better facilities, and better private coaching for their athletes. That’s how it was described to me by guys who played for them back then. I’ll give you North Shore- they’ve done well the past few years. They’re an anomaly and I’ll give you that I’d rather have that coach than King.
  14. We will never know if Surratt would win at higher levels- he hasn’t (and probably won’t) coach at higher levels. Anything we say is purely speculation in that regard.
  15. If we had D1 players transferring in every year like Aledo, I’m sure we would have more state championships too. But we don’t.
  16. Last night, maybe. But to Aledo the year before? Denton Ryan years before that? I’d venture to say they had more overall talent than Longview who had a few big players but not more talent in the aggregate.
  17. The “runs up the middle” as you call them were gaining yardage in chunks all season, including the first half last night. I did notice that a couple of times, our defensive change outs should have been allowed to take as long as they wanted because Lancaster subbed players. But Longview wasn’t given time to make changes of their own.
  18. It is always risk when you change leadership, especially one that’s been running the program for 2 decades. Who do you want to coach our team that would feasibly leave their job to come to Longview? That’s not rhetorical- I genuinely want to know.
  19. I watched it. They missed a PAT in overtime. I just don’t see them hanging with Forney.
  20. It is what it is. Like I said, when he was named head coach, people wanted him gone. Some haven’t changed in 20 years. Objectively, he got too conservative this game and has a few times over the years. But I’d love to see who people want to run this team.
