You would be correct. He is a senior. I was thinking of the other running back that is a sophomore that started last year as a freshman. He has really good speed as well.

EC didn’t play Kilgore last year. They beat Lindale then lost to LC. I think that was two years ago under a different head coach.

Bay City had the best defense in 12 4A. They have a standout D1 athlete on the defensive line that they move around quite a bit. Team has lots of speed and this is the first year in awhile they have shown good discipline. Their sophomore running back that is the fastest kid in 4A. Good team, don’t sleep on them.

Not wrong at all. If you read correctly, EC’s defense did only give up one touchdown the second half. Lindale did score twice but one was special teams score on a returned Kick off. Watched the same game but not through blue tinted sun glasses…..

Let’s be totally honest and say the best team (at least on Thursday night) won the game. First the official’s missed calls on both sides but overall they let the kids play. There was holding by Lindale over and over on the edge but was not called. But I’m fine with it if you’re gonna let them play. - The fumble by EC followed the play Davis reached the ball to the goal line and the nose of the ball was crossed the plane of the goal line. Should have been a touch down. (Is what it is, pretty tough call on an official at game speed) - Lindale receiver fumbled the ball after a reception along Lindale sideline when he was hit by EC defender. Ball was recovered by DK Ward. EC was not awarded the ball but replay clearly showed the ball was out. - Lindale QB fumbled the ball after a good run and EC recovered. Official’s ruled he was down but replay looked like the ball was loose before he made contact with the ground. - I disagree that the official made a bad call on the TD pass to end the first half. It was an exceptional play by both receiver and Defender. Anderson from EC made a great play on the ball and high pointed it Lindale’s receiver made a great play to try and take the ball from the defender. In this situation if the ball is maintained through the ground by both players the tie goes to the offensive team. The ball came out when the hit the ground. No catch. (If the maintained possession for a split instance through the ground enough to make it a catch, pretty tough to call at game speed) - was it pass interference against Owen’s on his second pass reception attempt? Most definitely and was not even a close call. It was so obvious the referee had to throw the laundry as the corner back was on an island and did not turn to defend the ball. We’re some close PI calls not made? Probably but the refs let them play and only called the egregious penalty’s that couldn’t be missed. - Owens had a long TD called back that would have put EC up by 3 TD’s to the phantom spot he stepped out of bounds. Replay clearly showed he stayed in bounds. (EC went on to score anyway so it actually helped kill clock) Did both teams make mistakes, yes. Did both teams and play a hell of a game, yes. Did EC throw the ball? No, why would any team when your averaging 10 yards a carry with a team that was stacking the line. Can EC throw the ball, yes. All 3 attempts where very well executed pass plays. If they needed to throw I fully believe they would have and done well enough. Does EC have anyone that can catch the ball besides Owens, yes. They have at least 5 or 6 receivers / tight ends that have very good hands and have shown to be dependable in the passing game. Let’s just get past the officiating as at the end of the day it was a non factor. The difference in the game was EC DID shut down Lindale in the second half collecting 3 interceptions while allowing only one touchdown on an amazing play by Lindale’s QB on fourth down in the grasp of two EC defenders lofting a TD pass to the back of the End-zone. EC never punted the ball the entire game. Oh, where would EC be without Owens? First of all he’s a dynamic player that is a generational type player. I’m glad he is on our side. But #3 Davis ain’t to bad either. #17 Norman that only got one carry is the real deal too. There are a few others behind those 3. Trust me. They would be all right….. Onto the next round, and if EC and Kilgore do not stumble in round 3, it will be a great matchup. Can Kilgore beat EC? Of course they can. Can EC come out on top? No doubt they can. I’m just going to enjoy the ride and root on the Ricebirds and hope the can make this season more special than it has already been. #TTBL !! ( Turn Those Birds Loose)

850 yds. In comparison last year with one more game they had about 475. The difference is the efficiency and when they pass. In the past they passed pretty much 3rd and long out of necessity. The new coaching staff will throw pretty much on any down and distance. It’s still a run first / heavy offense but it has more exotic looks and looks to catch teams off guard for big plays in the passing game.

EC is not as one dimensional as in the past. No doubt ground and pound is there game but they can and will pass. EC has two QB’s that can pass as well as Owens out of the wildcat. All three have QB ratings in the 110 range with 50% completion ratios. Owens is no doubt the no 1 RB, but EC has not 2 but 3 that will play on Saturday’s. These kids are running behind maybe the best O line in 4A. (This is the o-line group that dominated the lineman challenge over the summer winning the Houston area round against 4A-6A teams and a the state championship over 4A-5A teams). Don’t confuse this Ricebird team with those of the past. Defensively EC has been inconsistent. The new coaching staff has brought over a pressure defense that is designed to create chaos. It has been a very effective defense at times but the players are just now really able to execute the system. When it is run correctly EC looks very dominant on D. When they miss assignments they give up big plays though. If EC plays well on D and takes care of the ball they win by 2 scores. If not, and they don’t contain Lindale’s QB, the last team with the ball will probably be the winner in a high scoring game like Lindale had against Kilgore and Lumberton.

I've think Carthage will take this one but it will be close. 42-35. Silsbee will be hard to get pressure on in the passing game as they have a big OL. If Carthage can cover Silsbees wideouts and not give up the big play as EC did on several occasions Carthage will be alright on D. EC did pretty well against the pass but at times gave their QB too much time as they didn't get consistant pressure and left the DBs on an island too long. Silsbees biggest running threat is their QB. Carthage will get there's on offense they will have to just get the stops on D. Silsbee is a very good team and I'm counting on the winner of this one to take home the state title since my birds are done.

Wow! Congrats Carthage on the upset! I will be pulling for the winner of the Silsbee / Carthage game to go all the way now that my birds are out. Congrats also to Navasota on the great run your team had.

Congrats to Silsbee in a great football game! Clutch TD as time expired. QB under pressure and receiver covered but comes down with the jump ball in the back of the end zone! EC fails to stop the Tigers on the 2pt conversion so Silsbee moves on. Carthage will have its hands full with a very good Silsbee team. The winner of Silsbee / Carthage game should represent in the championship game. Silsbee will see a better passing attack from Carthage but I doubt the will face a running game like tonight the rest of the way. Dove and Tae had great careers at EC and will be hard to replace. I want to thank them and the rest of the senior class of EC for giving El Campo a team to be proud of. This team had some great football players with great character on and off the field. Every team has a player or too that can make a team look bad and I hated to see no. 12 create that image after Silsbee converts on the game winning 2pt conversion. That isn't EC football and I hope Silsbee fans can overlook what happened at the end and just rember one of the best high school play off games that either team had ever been apart of.

I'm just disappointed someone has to lose this game and this thread will die. It's been very entertaining!

What type of offense does Silsbee run? I think everyone knows EC is a run first O. (And run 2nd, and 3rd.....)
